Mastodon – Battle at Sea Lyrics 18 years ago
This is from the Nuremburg Trials in the sentencing of Karl Brandt.

"Military Tribunal One sentences you, Karl Brandt, to death by hanging, and may God have mercy on your soul."

Mastodon – Iceland Lyrics 18 years ago
It's spelt Ísland; it's the Icelandic spelling of Iceland, and it's not pronounced with a silent "s".

Corrosion Of Conformity – Señor Limpio Lyrics 18 years ago
It's about the plight of the man who knows exactly what he must do but can't or is too afraid. The title is a reference to a sexually impotent man, which is in turn a reference to the other meaning of impotence, which is general uselessness and powerlessness. A wonderful song. There seems to be some other meaning or story to this song, but I can't really make it out.

Melvins – Lizzy Lyrics 18 years ago
I don't know why, but from what little I can make out of the lyrics and how the song sounds, I made an idea about what this song is about. It sounds like someone takes advantage of a position of trust, like father to a daughter, and sexually molests her, and she gets pregnant and has a child. I dunno. I'm making shit up, but that's what I always saw when I listened to it.

Faith No More – Ashes to Ashes Lyrics 19 years ago
Whenever I hear the line, "I'll pick you up from the floor", I always think of a huge man picking up his wife by the neck and beating her. I have no idea why, but because of that one image I have in my head I've always kinda thought it sounded kinda dark and kinda abusive.

Soundgarden – Mailman Lyrics 19 years ago
Listening to it, I always think it's about a man who thinks he has nothing left. He's just "headed for the bottom" and he knows it's just a matter of time, so he's going to give up being what everybody else wanted him to be and take revenge on everything that had turned him into what he became as his last act of enjoyment before his inevitable death.

Mastodon – Mother Puncher Lyrics 19 years ago
One of these days we all realise that we're all total fuck-ups, that we've wasted our lives and it's all already over. That's the meaning. You probably thought you could've meant something to the world, but you didn't, and now you work 9 to 5, monday through friday, in some dead-end job for very little pay. It's like you just gave your mother a punch in the face, 'cause she believed in you and you let her down by living a shitty life.

Mastodon – Sleeping Giant Lyrics 19 years ago
Of course heavy isn't synonymous with good, but it's the thing that Mastodon did good. They can't play soft, sappy music. I listen to Mastodon because I want a heavy (and, of course, good) band. There are good bands out there that aren't heavy, I listen to some of 'em. Mastodon is not one of them.

Mastodon – Sleeping Giant Lyrics 19 years ago
This is a terrible song. Mastodon has become all sing-songy and Brent Hinds sounds like a cowboy or something. They haven't lost their touch yet (a lot of the other songs on this album are cool), but it's only a matter of time in my opinion. The days of Remission and Lifesblood, when Mastodon was a *heavy* band, are gone.

Mastodon – Siberian Divide Lyrics 19 years ago
The ending doesn't matter. The journey is what's important. Ya know, all of that artsy bullshit.

Mastodon – We Built This Come Death Lyrics 19 years ago
Of course the lyrics don't make any sense, Eric Saner sang 'em originally and none of the original lyrics appear to have been saved or something like that. If you listen to the original 9-Song Demo, the lyrics don't line up with 'em at all. Anyway, these ones are just about how much working full-time sucks, which lines up with Mastodon's sentiments in the later piece, Workhorse.

Mastodon – Crystal Skull Lyrics 19 years ago
It's not only hard to hear what they're saying, but their lyrics are hardly accurate. 'Least they weren't for Lifesblood or Remission. Leviathan had pretty accurate lyrics.

Black Sabbath – Letters From Earth Lyrics 19 years ago
It always worries me to think that maybe I'm not something of this world, that maybe I don't belong here, with all of these people who are so different than me. Imagine if they all lived on some planet that they thought was Earth, and I was the only one who was in the right place, and I guess I'd just send them letters from Earth.

Black Sabbath – TV Crimes Lyrics 19 years ago
Televangelism. Easy; a man tries to trick the people into giving him money using religion.

If you're a real Christian, God will save you if you're true to your religion, not for buying stupid trinkets and giving money to a man who claims to be special. That's not what Jesus did.

'Course, that's not to say that Christianity's necessarily right. I just wanted to make sure that I was implying that, because at the moment I'm only catering to people who will believe what I say; I might be wrong, but if Christianity is right, then so am I (that's a big "if", though). I'm sure other religions have other figureheads who take money from the people by tricking them, but I don't know enough about those to offer any advice.

Black Sabbath – Time Machine Lyrics 19 years ago
That sounds reasonable, but it sounds like someone who's living in a sort of dream world; a man refuses to live in the present and constantly spends his time reliving the past and imagining the future, like Death of a Salesman, where Willy Loman can't fix how bad his life has become because he's too busy thinking about the past because his life has become so bad; it's a vicious cycle. In a way, that makes it the perfect thing to write a song about, because it allows people to break out of that cycle; people are stuck living in false realities because they don't think they can handle the real reality.

Black Sabbath – I Lyrics 19 years ago
This is just a guess, but might it be about someone who pretends to be a powerful yet just man, though in reality he is weak and takes advantage of those who would fear him or worship him?

Uhh... Maybe.

Black Sabbath – All Moving Parts (Stand Still) Lyrics 19 years ago
I love this song, corrupt politicians, sadism, masochism, rebellion, alcoholism and cross-dressing. That's just about all of them. If they only fit together somehow...

Pantera – Fucking Hostile Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is not against religion or Christianity. It is against police brutality, over-protective parents (and other roles as such) and religious figures who aren't willing to change. It's silly today that everyone's out there, just combing songs to figure out that, in fact, is about how Christianity is bad. It's simply not true, priests have done some things and has tried to control the people and such, but that's not about the religion, it's about the religious institutions, which are, routinely, totally fucked up. Following religion on your own time and not trying to drag others into it is fine.

Frank Zappa – Joe's Garage Lyrics 20 years ago
I remember many times when me and a few of my friends would just hang out in my garage and jam, we'd try to play something cool, but none of us were any good, so someone would just end up yelling "hey, let's play Smells Like Teen Spirit!" And then we would, despite how none of us actually liked the song. A toast to good times with friends, no matter how.

Black Sabbath – The Mob Rules Lyrics 20 years ago
Doubtful, since mobs are generally very unstructured units. It seems to me like it's about how people ignore their individuality and their own personal beliefs when they're in a mob, and how people will just join mobs whenever one shows up regardless of what that mob is going to do. A "mob mentality", if you will.

Corrosion Of Conformity – Shake Like You Lyrics 20 years ago
I think the lyrics "watch them shake like you" is a reference to someone powerful (a leader or a God or the like), but he's extremely paranoid (shakes). So to keep his mind off of it, he tries to make everyone shake like him by pitting them against each other.

No, didn't really make sense after I wrote it down, but it's worth a shot.

Corrosion Of Conformity – Seven Days Lyrics 20 years ago
Over time mistakes were few but I believe they're mine (Nothing bad has happened, but I feel guilty anyway)
Faded mind youth was old and the years were so unkind (someone who's more mature than others? Or perhaps simply a feeling of time passing one by.)
I'm the one I face the change I know that stands before me (I know what I have to do)
Believe in me cause I damn sure dont believe in you (I'm your saviour even if you don't want or deserve it)

I'm not sure how this fits into the rest of the song, but it might help anyone else who wants to try.

Corrosion Of Conformity – 13 Angels Lyrics 20 years ago
I think it's about someone who thinks that they've fallen from light, someone who's tried to do good and has failed, someone just not living up to what they could be. Something like that.

Mastodon – Workhorse Lyrics 20 years ago
That quote is the basic meaning. The song is also about comparing work to slavery and also about how we've accepted having to work just to live in our society ("Consequences we have paid to be free in a world we've made"). It's like if we didn't work, we wouldn't be able to live, but we still regret it.

I'm a bit disappointed how the lyrics on the booklet don't match the ones in the song, these lyrics are missing a line and the final verse.

Black Sabbath – Looking for Today Lyrics 20 years ago
Due to recent advances in technology for media, we find that information can be quickly spread, much faster than in the past. Unfortunately, as an adverse side effect, we find that, due to how quickly information spreads, many things are frequently outdated, such as technology or language. Modern colloquialisms quickly change with word of mouth, so it becomes harder for the human brain to adapt to these advancements in language. Technology is frequently outdated, making it dangerous to work on technology lest it no longer have a use, making it so that technology can only be advanced by people with a lot of money who can take the risk. There are many other adverse effects as a result of the improvement of media, but I couldn't go into all of 'em, particularly since I don't know that much on the subject myself. This is what I believe this song is about.

Faith No More – The Gentle Art Of Making Enemies Lyrics 20 years ago
Whenever I hear this song, I always think about those people who are always looking for a reason to fight, but when they have the opportunity, don't take it. More of a personal insight than anything, as someone who always wants to hurt people but hates doing it. Or something like 'at. My ideas are kind of blurred at the moment, perhaps someone else could make these a bit clearer.

"And all you need is just one more excuse."
"This year you'll sit and take it."

Fear Factory – Dog Day Sunrise Lyrics 20 years ago

Black Sabbath – Am I Going Insane Lyrics 21 years ago
I'm not quite sure what this means (or if it means anything), though I will say one thing. This song has nothing to do with radio. The title, "Am I Going Insane (radio)" just means that it's the radio edit. I haven't heard any other version, I just know that this is the radio edit.
