Thai starts off the track by bragging about all the money and news that he's been making. He's spitting about all the drugs that he's been taking, how he uses them to numb the pain he feels, and questions the essence of pain. He's spitting about his brothers, he's questioning the rationale in being fake, and he's pulling off his best Playboi Carti impression. ASAP steps in and spits with a relish, he's rapping about the expensive bottles he's been popping, he's spitting about his rich habits, but he never forgets his routes. He's slow dancing and showing off his hometown, he's bragging about how expensive his bling and gadgets are, and he doesn't seem to mind all the attention he's been getting. The track closes out with Thai dropping the hook one more time. What the song means to me This track serves as a shout-out to the rappers' hometowns, it's a track which explores some of the typical themes of trap music without having any digressions. One of the things that made this track so crazy was the ASAP Rocky feature, it's lovely seeing Lord Flacko back, and he certainly didn't disappoint. He's sounding better than he has for a long time, and he's throwing some shots at detractors. The production of this track is great, it's nice seeing another baby voice rapper eat, and I got no qualms about the stunting on the record. I will give this song a rating of 7/10. |

What the song means to me This track is a very intimate affair, it sees two very different artists show off the best things about their craft and use them to create a classic. Viyaa has been around for a minute, with songs like this it's pretty clear that she's not going anywhere anytime soon. Datbeatgod owned his verse, his style was perfect for the mood, and his addition is a masterstroke. The track sets my mind at rest, it also makes me feel like chilling with my lover, the perfect way to be put to sleep. I will give this song a rating of 9/10. |

He's beating himself up for not noticing sooner than now, he's calling her out now that he's famous. His voice occasionally gets drowned out by the throbbing production which is quite rowdy, to say the least. He's playing the electric guitar is an electric motion, as the track comes to a frantic conclusion. What the song means to me Rock music has become super diluted these days, it has seen so many posers call themselves rock stars, but luckily the old guard won't just stay there sitting pretty. This track sees the rock stars belt out the lyrics in a way reminiscent of the glory days of the genre. The track makes me want to step into a time machine and make my way to the days of Nirvana and the likes. It's one of the most real rock tunes out there, and I couldn't stop bopping my head aggressively. I will give this song a rating of 8/10. |

What the song means to me The track is a classic disco track which would be an amazing fit to clubs all around the world especially once the coronavirus pandemic subsides. The track sees Dua Lipa show off her amazing vocal range, it dovetailed perfectly with the song's theme. The track makes me feel like busting a move, even though I've been doing that indoors lately. He's been stretched to the limits so he sees music as a means of escape. His lover has all his secrets so there's nothing left to hide, he's hopeful that the relationship doesn't sour because he doesn't know what he'd do it does. He's singing with some precision, even though some of his vocals get drowned by the masterful drumming, he sure passes a message across. The track closes out his psychedelic vocals stealing the mood once more. What the song means to me This track is layered in so much depth, it sees the singer tackle the themes of abandonment, heartbreak, betrayal, escapism, and so many more. He sees his hopelessness in the worst possible way, and proceeds to tell his lover to get out of the country, as he's losing his mind. The track sees him juxtapose a lot of themes, others might fell that he's having fun, but he's singing through anguish on this record. The production takes us on a night trip into his thinking process, and this track is another classic from River Tiber. I will give this song a rating of 10/10. |

She slept with his friends, she made him feel super small, he let her meet his dad, but that didn't change her deceitful ways. He's going hard on this track as he lets Trippie do the rest. Trippie Redd steps in and tells us about all the heartbreaks that he endures, he has gone through his fair share of deceitful lovers. Both rappers croon a duet at the end of the track, remember all the sordid times, and make a vow never to go down that path again. What the song means to me I'm a huge fan of seeing rappers wear their emotions on their sleeves, it's super refreshing because this is one of the toughest genres in the American music industry. Both artists evoked memories of Kanye West's 808 & Heartbreaks album, they went super hard on the record. The record has a sad underbelly, they sound tortured, and rightly so. The track has a lovely trap beat which seems to be the default setting for tracks of this nature, there's little not to love on this track. I will give this song a rating of 7/10. |

What the artist means This track keeps up to the rapper's tradition of releasing a recap for the rap year in review, this is the latest edition and it feels like the most aggressive yet. He starts off the track by calling out a slew of happenings in hip-hop, things like the Kobe Bryant death which started the year on a sober note as the Black Mamba was a major influence to the rappers we all know and love today. He then dedicates a few bars to the late Pop Smoke who had a monster year by any artiste's standards, if only he could be alive to reap the fruits of his grind. He spits some razor-sharp bars about the Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez shooting incident which has divided the genre, he makes light of it, and largely desists from taking a side. He dedicates a bar or two to the Jada, August, and Will Smith entanglement saga, he doesn't mince words on this note. The track has a few more references and closes out with a tribute to Andre Harrell who played a major part in bringing up some of the biggest legends in hip-hop today. What the song means to me The track is a really long one totaling at a staggering thirteen minutes and fifty seconds, it has more bars than I could analyze even if I was Uncle Murda's first cousin. However, the track is layered in a depth which has become a rarity in hip-hop today, the best part being that it was delivered with startling precision. The beat is a staple in hip-hop, it is a legendary cut indeed and this nearly brought a tear to my eye, gosh 2020 was tough. The track is way better than excellent, it's a flex performed by a rapper that knows just how powerful he is. I will give this song a rating of 9/10. |

What the artist means This track feels like a lovely way to welcome us into the new year, it's a track celebrating New beginnings and in this case a fresh relationship. The singer is looking for a new relationship since he dropped all the deadwood in the past year, and he's not leaving any stones left unturned in his venture. He's telling his proposed lover all the beautiful things that they could do together, as long as she can say yes. He doesn't want anyone except her, he's making that crystal clear on the record. We all want to start the year on an amazing note, and Lauv is no different, as he pulls all the stops to make his lover feel amazing. What the song means to me The track is riveting and enticing, the first thing that drew me in being the soft beat which gave Lauv ample room to dance all over the place. 2021 is a sign of new beginnings, the artist knows that and what better way to serenade a lady than promising a great time in the new year. He's showing off his amazing range in a way that reminds me of some of the finest soul singers of the past decade or so. He's floating, he's capturing my attention, and I'm super hopeful that he keeps up the energy in 2021 till infinity. I will give this song a rating of 9/10. |

He might be gone but he's still trying to hurt her, even though he vows that she will never give in. She's crooning so softly about a one-sided affair, it got the better of her once, but like the saying goes "once bitten, twice shy". What the song means to me The artiste has always been one of my favorite psychedelic singers, it's so clear that she never lost that even though it's been a while since she dropped. She sounds pained on this record, and I can relate, it sucks when you put so much into a relationship and your lover still takes you for granted. The track has pristine production which captures her headspace so artistically, she felt it in her soul, and I did too. The track is one of the finest I've heard in the emo genre, a true work of art, a beautiful mess. I will give this song a rating of 10/10. |

The track moves to a very intimate location, and the singer shows off a range similar to Chris Brown and a sexual register as extensive as Jeremih's. What the song means to me This track is what you would call a classic bedroom anthem made in the mold of the raspy 80s. The singer is an old soul, and it's super apparent from his highly sensual songwriting and motions. The first verse is quite diluted, but he was unhinged on the second verse and hook. The track sets me in the mood, it's ultra-sexy, it celebrates a lover's body and mind, and I couldn't get over the shade he threw at her last boyfriend and her first. The track was also blessed with amazing production, his mind is in the right place, and he just shot to the top of my playlist. I will give this song a rating of 8/10. |

Conway The Machine holds no qualms on his verse, he's bragging about the drugs he's sold, he's not scared of anything since he got shot so viscously. He drops a couple of hard punchlines, assures us that this year is his, and he closes out by telling us that he prefers hanging around real street gangsters than the fake rappers moving around these days. What the song means to me I love me a good gangster rap song, it's so refreshing in a genre taken over by mumble rappers and posers that water down some of the things that make rap one of the hardest genres in music. Uncle Murda came out fighting but I'll have to give the W to Conway, his flow on this track was simply godlike. The track's beat was perfect for a hit of this nature, it is menacing, it is utterly disrespectful, and the legends didn't come out to flirt. I will give this song a rating of 10/10. |

Jorja steps in and gives a performance for the ages, she croons some more about flashing lights, she lets OG spit some more bars, as the track closes with a flourish. What the song means to me This track is a collaboration between three artists that are so different in delivery and genre, seeing it come so perfectly brought a tear to my eye. Jorja Smith showed off her amazing vocal range, she reminded me just why she's seen as the next great crooner in the UK. OG showed off his bars, his grasp of a foreign language, and I feel that he stole the show on this record. The track is finely made, the classic feel is amazing, and there's nothing that they could have done better. I will give this song a rating of 9/10. |

The track is another staple in the already superpopulated emo trap movement, it's one of the most gorgeous though. The track has an advanced beat, it has one of the rapper's best verses in a while, and I couldn't get over those amazing 808s. I will give this song a rating of 8/10. |

The track makes me remember some relationships of mine that didn't end so well, it reminds me of how sweet some of them were, and it's telling me to treat others better, lest I lose them forever. NLE is spitting with aggression, he's telling us all the tribulations and sins that he's seen at his young age. He's watching out for the police, he's making boss moves, and he thinks about the stormy days even though he's bringing the rain. Ms. Lanez closes out the track with her amazing vocals and reminds us that the life of a hustler is no joke. What the song means to me This track has the makings of a thug anthem; it sees 50 dips in his gangster rap bag which he hasn't delved into for quite some time. He's spitting like he hasn't in years, he sounds ultra-focused, and it's clear that he took his time on this one. I didn't know that NLE had it in him, but he bodied the track and murdered the beat. Lanez sounded as awesome as ever, and this trifecta sure spazzed. Let's not forget about how awesome the beat was, and huge plaudits must be given to 50 for making this happen, it's immaculate yet gritty. I will give this song a rating of 8/10. |

Tink has always been one of the most real, but this has to go down as one of her best. The track is stunning, its production goes hard, and the message is crystal clear. She still loves those beautiful moments that they stole, she's still living in the better days, even though those days seem long gone. Now she's covered in him, now she's covered in all his empty promises, and there seems to be no way out. What the song means to me Unreciprocated or unrequited love is simply the worst; however, manipulation comes a not so distant second in the list of scum worthy behaviors. Taylor is calling out an ex-lover guilty of this, and in turn, she's warning Kings and Queens everywhere that they deserve so much better. The production on this track is deceptively soft, you wouldn't know the huge importance of the track if you don't look deep enough. The track is an eye-opener, it exposes so many red flags, and there are so many meaningful messages here. I will give this song a rating of 8/10. |

What the song means to me The song is a breezy affair, I'm hearing Taylor sound so alive, so in love and so focused. Love is one of the most surreal emotions, it's utterly awesome when you fall head over hills with that special someone. That's what's going on with Taylor Swift right now, and it's super cute seeing her bear her heart on wax. The track is such an easy listen, the production is spotless, and I couldn't stop smiling when I heard some corny yet cute lyrics from pop's favorite superstar. Though it seems that Dorothea isn't in the mood for coming back to Taylor's side, it's still refreshing that she was quite willing to help. What the song means to me This song revisits one of her earlier friendships, before all the famous boyfriends, before all the awards, and before the fame. Even though it's clear that she and Dorothea ended up on bad terms, that doesn't stop Taylor from offering the olive branch. The track is incredibly nostalgic, the production is incredibly innocent, and her voice makes it clear that the track was tailored perfectly for her. It is an intimate ballad from one of the most superb voices that you could find anywhere. I will give this song a rating of 8/10. |

Taylor Swift replies that it goes way deeper than all of these, that their love tale goes beyond the internet, it's actually a forever thing, till the sun goes down. He's matching her lyric for lyric, and analyzing what happened when he had a ghastly accident as the last thing that he saw was her face. Both artists are ultra-sorry now, as they regret not making each other the centerfold, even though that's what they wanted and deserved. What the song means to me This duet might have looked so unlikely to succeed on paper, but it is undoubtedly one of the strongest records I've heard so far on the album. As both artistes simply ate the beat up, they sounded in tandem, and that resulted into something quite magical. The track makes me feel right at ease, it makes me feel like taking that risk, or telling my lover all the things I adore about her, because you could never tell how tomorrow would be. She's narrating a sordid ordeal, but you wouldn't notice how much pain she's going through because she has mastered the art of creating magic while going through turmoil. She sounds crystal clear on the record; the production is superb as her voice doesn't get drowned out at any stage. She's doing lyrical sorcery, she's proving herself once again if though she doesn't need to, and she just crafted an almost flawless effort. I will give this song a rating of 9/10. |

That's why she's one of the easiest artists to listen to, and that's why she has a seemingly endless catalog of classic hits and equally classic albums. The song is a call to arms, it is also a call to finding much-needed solace that she and everyone need to find. There's no need to put all your eggs in one basket, that's what she keeps reminding us all through. The track is marvelous, it bears hope, and the future has never looked brighter. The artists are proving to be more than just good on paper, they are an odd couple that can't seem to do any wrong on this record. All that matters is that she's finding unique ways of moving on, and she's not ready to be treated like a situation that needs to be handled. All these acts by the artists are to get the attention and loyalty of their significant others. It's super hard to be rich and famous off rap in America, so it seems. What the song means to me All they want is for their ladies to stay down and not look at other men while they're with them, is that too much to ask? The song's production is a gem and it lets all three emcees show off their styles on this all-encompassing collaboration. They're all having fun and dropping some subtle quotable while they're at it. I can't say who owned the track but I ain't gonna lie, 6lack was beyond amazing on hook duties. The track makes me feel like taking my girl shopping, I'm sure that won't be a bad idea in getting her to stay down by my side. I will give this song a rating of 7/10. |

What the song means to me This song was created by one of the best new spitters in the rap game and one of the last exponents of the much appreciated emotional subgenre. He's revealing so much on this track; I fell in love with it from the first note till the last bar. He's flowing between singing and rapping so effortlessly and it's super refreshing seeing a new-gen rapper make a bubbling hit without a big name feature. The track gives me so much hope in better times because if Lil Tjay can make it out, I sure can too! I will give this song a rating of 9/10. |

Drake comes in and dips in his emotional bag, he's crooning about being hurt with his romantic interest moving on from him, all he wants to do is lay down and talk about how their relationship got so strained. Bleu questions the saying that time heals, of course, but why does he feel so hurt and powerless now that his girl left him in the lurch. The track closes out with some strings and pained musings. What the song means to me The production of this song is stunning and it lets Bleu and Champagne Papi have a field day playing around with their vocals. This song is super torturous and you can feel the pain in both artists' voices, they simply want their girls back. The track puts me in the weird position of thinking about calling my girl to take me back or act like a badass disciple of Lord Future. Either one, I'm in knots right about now. He's super tired of the whole world turning against him, more reason why it sucks being someone else. He's riding this beat and telling us his dreams of ruling the world, even before he left his hometown for the first time. He's waxing poetic now, he's more mature and maybe he'll be ready to give forgiveness a shot, shame that the girl came from Brooklyn. What the song means to me The first thing that sticks out on this track is the superb, trap, and introspective production which would give just about any singer a lovely canvas to paint his pretty picture. JHN doesn't disappoint as he gave me one of the most emotionally tinged tracks of the year, his relatability strikes me for the entire close to four minutes’ duration. The track feels like a cry for help but also a flex at the same time, that's what you get when you're as talented as SAINt JHN. The track is pure genius and a confessional masterstroke. I will give this song a rating of 9/10. |

Both artists then break off into a duet about tripping and falling into a safety set (or without one). The track closes out with Ariana singing over the haunting instrumental as she decides not to run away from the feelings she clearly still has for her ex-lover. What the song means to me The song is super refreshing as it sees two seemingly impenetrable artists let their guard down and create some well-crafted magic about a safety net. There's nobody that sings about heartbreak like Ariana (well, maybe Taylor Swift) and there's no one that gets hearts soaring like Ty Dolla Sign. That's why this song is the perfect blend between heartbroken and horny, both artists brought their A-game and it led to one of the best tracks of both their careers. It's a superb duet by an all-star duo, makes me wonder why it took so long to come to fruition. I will give this song a rating of 10/10. |

They're bragging about making millions off both rappings as well as trapping, they aren't even mincing words on this one, because you think you'll stop them then you must be sure deluded. They decry every other squad because they're the only ones that are still stainless in this dirty business. They close out the song suddenly, as the beat plays out with Tion Wayne making a few more concise threats. What the song means to me The song is aggression personified, as the artists didn't mince words from the first note till the last. It's certainly one of my favorite drill tracks of a year that has had more UK drill tracks than ever before, it's a flex between two emcees at the peak of their powers. Even though I can't relate to this song, because I don't own a gun neither can I spit bars like this. It's still a superb display of top tier rapping and that's admirable in itself. I will give this song a rating of 6/10. |

Both Thug and Trippie Redd are clearly in toxic relationships even if their masculine egos won't let them admit it. What the song means to me Both artists could swear that they don't feel the pain but it's super clear that no matter how much they earn or the kinds of hedonistic tendencies they exhibit, it's clear they're longing for something meaningful. The production on this track is perfect for both artists as they skate all over the record and lay their emotions bare for everyone to see. The track is more of a mournful one than a flex if we're being totally honest, I can feel the pain here. It runs super deep! I will give this song a rating of 8/10. |

Benny Blanco did a great job with this beat as it let Justin let out all the pain he hid for so long. There's a certain price you pay for money and fame at an early age and Justin is the best person to tell this cautionary tale. The track is sorrowful, well-produced, and brutally honest. It's a sordid masterpiece from one of the most famous yet maligned artists of our generation. I will give this song a rating of 7/10. |

What the artist means Ariana is taking nothing for granted on this record with the heartbreak icon Weeknd. She's crooning about a breakup that left her super depressed because the dude is just so hard to replace, she's super hurt and lets us know on this record, she's using autotune expertly here to convey her hurt. Weeknd steps in and sing so tragically about a love tale gone wrong, he tried to help her through the phase but that ended up with her ending things with him. Now he's hunted by the hills, even though he couldn't give her his all, he's sad that she left him in the lurch. Ariana is crooning in the background about not being properly healed all through the process, she wants his memories to get out of her head but it's so dang hard. Weeknd knows this and he's crooning with equal pain as if he's drinking from the same stream of heartbreak as Ariana. What the song means to me The song is the quintessential break-up track that sees both artists swap tales of love stories gone astray and they are cringing with the residue pain. Ariana gives one of her best vocal performances for ages but even that couldn't know Abel off his perch as his falsetto owned the track. This track reminds me of so much unfinished business and I'm oddly feeling the hurt that both artists are singing about. The track is that powerful. I will give this song a rating of 8/10. |

What the artist means Sam Smith is showing off his range on this track as he reminds everyone just how good he remains. He's singing about the lies that his lover told him and just how badly they affected his psyche, he's sounding like a real diva on this track as he uses his voice in so many different ways. He felt depression deep in his soul and he can't understand how and why he fell so hard. He was busy giving all his love, while his lover was way too busy taking him for granted. He sounds super hurt and frankly white detached from the entire concept of love, heartbreak is truly a bad thing and even the biggest of stars aren't immune to this. What the song means to me The song left Sam wondering why he let his lover into his heart and this is a sentiment shared with so many hurt lovers all around the world after a break-up. The only difference is that he used the pain so expertly to make an undeniable anthem. He's sounding spontaneous yet focused on this one, hardly have I heard a break-up anthem so focused for the past decade. The track makes me feel stronger about love, even if it doesn't end well, that doesn't mean I can't create some magic! I will give this song a rating of 10/10. |

As Pharrell exits Jay Z comes in and shows off his knowledge and class. He decries the lies told on social media that confuse the minds of young black people, he tells them to save up and boss up. What the song means to me There has been a significant spike in racially motivated killings since the turn of the decade, it's gotten beyond bad and now black men are scared of going out. We've seen a protest anthem from Run the Jewels, we've seen the Bigger Picture by Lil Baby and now we're getting the powerfully progressive track Entrepreneur from the great Pharrell Williams and the rap legend Jay Z. The track makes me feel eight feet tall and it reminds me that my only limitation is my mind. One for now and one for the future! I will give this song a rating of 9/10. |
