Marjorie Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Never be so kind
You forget to be clever
Never be so clever
You forget to be kind
[Pre-Chorus]
And if I didn't know better
I'd think you were talking to me now
If I didn't know better
I'd think you were still around
[Chorus]
What died didn't stay dead
What died didn't stay dead
You're alive, you're alive in my head
What died didn't stay dead
What died didn't stay dead
You're alive, so alive
[Verse 2]
Never be so politе
You forget your power
Nevеr wield such power
You forget to be polite
[Pre-Chorus]
And if I didn't know better
I'd think you were listening to me now
If I didn't know better
I'd think you were still around
[Chorus]
What died didn't stay dead
What died didn't stay dead
You're alive, you're alive in my head
What died didn't stay dead
What died didn't stay dead
You're alive, so alive
[Bridge]
The autumn chill that wakes me up
You loved the amber skies so much
Long limbs and frozen swims
You'd always go past where our feet could touch
And I complained the whole way there
The car ride back and up the stairs
I should've asked you questions
I should've asked you how to be
Asked you to write it down for me
Should've kept every grocery store receipt
'Cause every scrap of you would be taken from me
Watched as you signed your name: Marjorie
All your closets of backlogged dreams
And how you left them all to me
[Chorus]
What died didn't stay dead
What died didn't stay dead
You're alive, you're alive in my head
What died didn't stay dead
What died didn't stay dead
You're alive, so alive
[Outro]
And if I didn't know better
I'd think you were singing to me now
If I didn't know better
I'd think you were still around
I know better
But I still feel you all around
I know better
But you're still around
Never be so kind
You forget to be clever
Never be so clever
You forget to be kind
And if I didn't know better
I'd think you were talking to me now
If I didn't know better
I'd think you were still around
What died didn't stay dead
What died didn't stay dead

Taylor Swift’s ‘majorie’ is the most sentimental as it was inspired by Swift’s late grandmother, Marjorie Finlay, an opera singer who encouraged her to pursue music. Swift stills like her grandmother is “still around” and still feels like she is “talking to me [her] now.” While she may be gone, Swift still feels her presence and give her advice of “Never be so polite, you forget your power/ Never wield such power, you forget to be polite.” These important words are what she remembers of her grandmother, and though she wishes she had kept even the grocery receipts she had from her, we are all touched by the sentiment of the song. We each have someone we wish we could have back even for a second, and who we wish is listening to us, so this is a nice reminder of that person during a trying holiday season.
The thirteenth track off her latest studio album titled "evermore" was produced by Aaron Dessner, and released on December 11, 2020.
What the artist means The strings on this one are quite unorthodox, she starts it off with some menacing lyrics which play the artful role of juxtaposition. She's wondering if her lover was talking to her, she's wondering if her ex-lover is still around, even though they are dead to her. She has moved on, and she simply wished that they would too. She's singing on a mellow note, it's clear that she doesn't want any more hurt or drama. She didn't know better, because if she did she'd know that these so-called lovers never meant any good to her. She's now finding solace in nature, music, and the real friends that stuck around when she was at her worst. Now she wants every single scar that they created gone for good.
What the song means to me She keeps repeating the statement "but, I didn't stay dead", this is extremely pivotal as they must find out that she knew when they were up to no good. This song tackles a plethora of themes; it also sees Taylor use music once again as therapy for a series of love tales that didn't end up as she wished. The track has so many merits, plus the songwriting here is simply clever yet a little too much to decipher. I will give this song a rating of 8/10.
@ElevatorMuzak it could mean that. But this is factually about her grandmother who passed many years ago. She kept saying "What died didn\'t say dead" because Taylor could still feel her presence even though her grandmother is long gone. Her grandma was an opera singer and maybe Taylor still listens to those vinyls that\'s why she ain\'t dead to Taylor. "If I didn\'t know better" because if Taylor doesn\'t \'know\' better, artistically, she\'d think that her grandmother is still alive.

@ElevatorMuzak I can understand how Taylor feels about still feeling her grandmother's presence. I lost my grandmother a few years ago and I still feel her presence sometimes, and sometimes I swear she's still taking care of me, watching over me, listening to me, and singing to me.
