Voltaire is a Cuban steampunk, gothic rock, and dark cabaret musician, known for the dark and raunchy humor in many of his songs. Though he grew up in New Jersey, he sings with a Western accent. Instead of reaching potential fans through music videos, he performs at many conventions. This is fitting because many of his songs are influenced by movies and television shows. His only music video to date is "Happy Birthday," which came out in 2008. He also dabbles in writing novels, writing comic books, making movie shorts, and designing toys. All of his projects rely on crowd funding although his first five studio albums-The Devil's Bris (1998), Almost Human (2000), Boo Hoo (2002), Then and Again (2004), and Ooky Spooky (2007)-were signed to Projekt Records. He works as a music and film professor at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
