i hear your voice and the world goes away
i see your face and this place is okay
oh, for just a moment of your time
oh, now that'd be sublime

do you hear me?
i'm here for you
you don't see me
i'm way in the back of the ballroom
i've been here since last night at nine
i was the first in the line

you made me cry more than anyone i've ever met in my whole life
you made me smile despite myself
i live for you, i wouldn't lie
you made me love you more than i love myself

corner cafe, random meeting
is that really you there?
scrape me off the ceiling
i've waited my whole life for this day
now i don't know what to say

you are the sea and the sky
and i'm content to not know why
you are so great, i am so plain
i am that moth to your flame
wish i was good enough for you

General CommentNot quite, Maddendog, it isn;t referring to a stalker. Ironically Voltaire has one very special stalker who goes to most of his cocnerts and sometimes voltaire likes to sing to him.
Anyhow, the song is spoken somwaht along these lines because it is referring to someone who loves someone else but knows that they are never good enough for them, because of their past and what it has made them as well as because they see the one they love as the greatest of people. They love them and shall nevev love any other and when they are finally faced with the chance to speak to them they freeze and can't tell them how they feel.

General CommentI like Dullahan's interpretation, it helped me to think about this song in a different light. But I think that "#1 Fan" could also be about a fan of a celebrity.

In the lyrics "Corner cafe, random meeting // Is that really you there? // Scrape me off the ceiling // I've waited my whole life for this day // Now I don't know what to say" it seems like the fan sees the person he adores for the first time (hence saying "I've waited my whole life for this day"). I mean, if he is really a stalker of someone he knows personally, he could easily see them every day.

Also, the lines "I've been here since last night at nine // I was the first in the line" sounds just like a fan going to a concert of a singer he adores, and he waits all night in front of the entrance, just to be the first in the line.

To conclude, I think this song can be interpreted in both ways. When I read the lyrics for the first time, it instantly reminded me of how I feel about some celebrities. Every line of the song depicts perfectly how I feel (just listening to a song by that celebrity makes me feel like everything will be OK; he is so great, I am so plain, etc.).
But also the lyrics fit well with feelings of a person being desperately in love with someone, seeing her/him as "the sea and the sky" and feeling like they'll never be good enough for the one they adore.

General Commentthere aren't enough comments here :(

Pretty basic meaning, its that one fan thats a stalker. Obsessively they know everything about that celebrity, and that celebrity knows nothing about them.

General CommentI agree with Dullahan. It's about being obsessively in love with someone and FEELING like a stalker, i think. I get the impression that it's maybe about seeing someone after they've broken up with you and you've realised how much you like them... i don't know..
