every time i start to remember
i remember i don't want to remember
warp me back at 88 if only for one day

turn on mario and luigi
sit me down put my hands on the ouija
and when it spells out roisin's name i'll swear it wasn't me

1988 take me back to 1987
i'm in search of days
when times were good and earth a place in heaven

now that i jump as high as luigi
let's sit down put our hands on the ouija
when it spells out your sweet name you'll know that it was me

1988 take me back to 1987
i'm in search of days
when times were good and earth a place in heaven

i want to make a motion to stop the commotion
i second the motion to stop the commotion
i got another notion for backwards motion
i too have a notion back-back-back backwards motion

I saw them in concert and they explained this song. Daniel explained how when he was in 9th grade he was thrift store shopping with his dad and his friend Jessica. Jessica found a a blue shirt which read, 'in search of 1988.' they fought over it, and she ended up with it. In December of 1998, Jessica returned home from college and gave him the shirt as a Christmas gift. It got him thinking of the easier times, early high school. Then thought about the year shown on the shirt, 1988, and got even sappier thinking about how much easier things were when he was younger.

i saw them play with weezer too (actually, i think it was feb 11th also... at continental airlines arena) and i thought they were really great. saves the day was the other opening act, and they were awesome as well. but i thought they went too long.. it was like, hey, we wanna see weezer already!

Anywayss... I think that this song is basically about wanting to go back in time, if just for a day, when he was younger and more naive. I'm not sure though.. and I don't really know what the whole mario/luigi thing has to do with it... but the line "now that i jump as high as luigi" makes me think of mario on the old nintendo... luigi was always able to jump higher than mario. My interpretation is that maybe when he feels he's as good as luigi (he can "jump as high") it'll be okay for him to admit his feelings to this roisin girl. it's just a guess tho :-\

    very catchy song tho :)

this is obviously about fond memories of childhood (for us Children of the 80's), like Nintendo and Belinda Carlisle songs, and the reference to getting cheeky with your crush over Ouija board.

Holiday

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
