Long nights, hard times. Everything that makes you feel tired.
I think I got to get away from you. Long nights, hard times.
Everything that makes you feel tired.
That's why I got to get away from you.
I've got something to say. You might not like how it sounds.
I don't care. I've got to get out of here.
You look like or your disguise,
you're just a monkey in a monkey suit.
Now you know how I feel. Its just time or it's the wrong time.
You can't deal with me. I can't deal with you.
And now it's justified for both of us.
Just one more thing. Can you tell me something that I haven't heard?
I want to hear how it sounds.
What was that, that you said? You can't think of anything,
well think harder.
Tell me a secret or two. Speak up dear, my hearing's not so good.
I shouldn't call you dear. That's a good one. The best and worst secret you've ever yelled at me.
I've been around long enough.
Life is what happens while we're making plans.
I can't write another life. Our age of miracles is past.

Yeah so I owned this really cool hat of Miller Beer. That is one of those red mesh hats and in white writeing it says "Miller (with that eagle desighn) Made the American Way" Well I wore it to my secound piebald show and was like two people back center, and after Long Nights their closeing number, I threw that hat to travis who cought it and siad "Now people are thowing shit." he then went to put it on and wear it whail he struck piebalds stuff for the closeing band. I then went to the following nights show and decided to enjoy this one from the back of the crowed away from pushing and idiot crowd surfers. Well I notice when Travis Came on he was wearing my had backwards. After American hearts he went on to say that this was their last number Long Nights, and quote "This hat I am wearing was thrown up to me last night, you have to admit it is cooler then underwear." I am stoke about that story, and will never stop telling it till they break up.

this is probably my new favorite piebald song after getting 'we're the only friends we have'. i think this song is about being around someone who always brings you down and how you have to get away from that. its saying that like you shouldn't be afraid to speak up and be like "dude, i don't like you" and stuff. if its obvious someone's being an asshole and you can't really deal with them either...then you should get away from them. well...that's what i think...kinda. yeah. hehe.

Piebald how do I love thee let me count the ways.... ah. Life is what happens while we're making plans... great line. I enjoy the muscial transitions in this song... lyrics are actually secondary to me but Piebalds' are the only lyrics in a while that have moved me.

This job could be about quitting a job, but the end basically proves this wrong. I think this song is about a couple who are really annoyed with each other and he finally tells her how he feels.

This is such a sweet song, I love it so much. Near the end where Travis says, "Life is what happens while we're making plans", could this be a reference to the John Lennon song 'Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy' where Lennon sings, "Life is what happens to you While you're busy making other plans". I think so!

Step
Ministry
Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
