This is about bronies. They communicate by stomping.
It's amazing to me but I can't
Seem to say what I'm doing here
My tongue is all twisted around the air
I'm looking for words that were so well rehearsed
But I can't find them anywhere
With you there's no easy answer
It's true
You change the equation that I add up to
And all of the things I thought I knew
You turn it around
I'm amazed
When push comes to shove what I'd give to you
Everything
I'm amazed
The hallways I wouldn't mind crawling through
And I'd do it for days and days
I'm amazed, I'm amazed
That places your taking me to
Wait, I thought I had this down
I built all my cages and my hide out
I covered all my bases
But you
You creep in like a whisper
I try not to listen but I hear you
I don't know just what it is you do
But do it again
I'm amazed
When push comes to shove what I'd give to you
Everything
I'm amazed
The walls that I wouldn't mind crashing through
And I'd do it for days and days
I'm amazed, I'm amazed
At all of the things I know you have done
'Cause this time I think we've really won
That tables have turned
Now I'm taking my hat off to you
You said "we'll see"
But darling it's all clear to me
I'm amazed
And here in the foyer the hallway is small
I don't really think it's a hallway at all
It's a maze
Johnny your suitcase was finally received
She's packed up her things and she's ready to leave
It's amazing
All of the ink that was bled from your hands
Has painted a picture that she understands
It's amazed
And here by the ocean the sky's full of leaves
And what they can tell you depends on what you believe
It's a maze
The ass is a tree and the voices were three
And all that is gone is here sweeping through me
It's amazing
The voice of my father still loud as before
It used to scare me but not anymore
Father :
What is it Annie
Daughter:
I miss you
Seem to say what I'm doing here
My tongue is all twisted around the air
I'm looking for words that were so well rehearsed

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
Magical

Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
I can definitely see how its relates to her relationship with her father. But also, for anyone who has read House of Leaves, do you see how this song could be Karen's perspective about Navidson? After I read the book and listened to this song again, that is the thought that immediately jumped into my mind. Karen knows how she feels about things and where she stands but with him, things are different and she is "amazed." The same rules don't apply anymore. Also, the part where the song says, "When push comes to shove what I'd give to you - Everything - I'm amazed, The hallways I wouldn't mind crawling through...": This part right away brought to my mind the part in House of Leaves where Karen, in spite of having left Navidson and the house, returns there to find him and even goes into the hallway, disregarding and facing her own clausterphobia. And she is stunned that she is able to do this. Why does she? Because in the end, ("when push comes to shove...") she does care about Navidson. I don't know, just a thought. P.S. Actually, Poe's father died in 1993. Check Poe's "Haunted" CD jacket. She was in her 20's when he died, not a child.
@wanderingstar I agree but I also think the song is about Johnny and his mother especially the latter half.
