Standin' on a corner in Winslow Arizona
And I'm quite sure I'm in the wrong song
Two girls sixty five got a piece tied up in the
Back seat
"Honey we're Recovering Christians"

In the springtime of his voodoo
He was going to show me spring

And right there for a minute
I knew you so well

Got an angry snatch
Girls you know what I mean
When swivelin that hip doesn't do the trick
Me pureed sanitarily Mr Sulu
Warp speed
Warp speed
In the springtime of his voodoo

Every road leads back to my door
Every road I will follow
Every road leads back to my door
Got all your crosses loaded

And I know she's not that
Foxy
Boys
I said I know she's not that
Foxy but
You gotta owe something sometimes
You gotta owe
When you're your momma's sunshine
You've got to give something sometimes
When you're the sweetest cherry
In an apple pie
I need some voodoo on these prunes
In the springtime of his voodoo
He was going to show me spring

omg why has no one commented on this song yet?! its amazing!! one of the best on the original 'boys for Pele album' though i dont think its on all editions. i think its about her looking for guys to give her what she needs in relationships. the 'springtime of his voodoo' refers to that magic/spark there is when you just start out with someone ('the springtime' being the new start with that person, as its the start of the new cycle of the earth) when anything seems possible and its full of potential. however she sees him as being the key to the magik ('HIS voodoo') so inevitably it doesnt work and shes left lamenting all they could have shared - 'He was going to show me spring'. jmo...maybe im reading too much into it lol.

I think I read an interview that Tori did years ago and she talked about this song. She was talking about sexuality, and the frustration that comes with sometimes not knowing if the guy she was interested in was gay or straight, and wanting to know once and for all if she was wasting her time looking for something more than friendship with him. I think that fits in to the general theme of the song - 'got an angry snatch girls you know what i mean, when swivelling that hip doesn't do that trick' - she's doing everything she can to attract him, pulling out al lthe stops, and he's not falling for it. The end part about 'when you're the sweetest cherry in an apple pie' and 'momma's sunshine' bit refer to this guy who has girls falling all over him, his mother loves him and thinks he's playing the field with them all, when in reality he isn't, and he's in the springtime of his voodoo. Just my interpretation

I love the line "the sweetest cherry in an apple pie" so much because I can relate...it kind of reminds me of the line in Sleeps With Butterflies "I'm not like the girls that you've known, but I believe I'm worth coming home to." It's about knowing your worth it, you're a good, sweet girl, worth a boy's attention, but you don't fit in, you're a bit different. Such an amazing lyric!

    My Opinion

I think this song is about not trusting men."He WAS GOING to show me spring"... but he never did. Given that this whole album originated from Tori's breakup (but then she generalized it all), I find it hard to believe that this particular song is about anything but a complete lack of trust in all men - rather than in one man.

Ok. I think I might get (some of this). The reference to Mr. Sulu and warp speed is a Star Trek reference, I believe. And, the idea is that the relationship is in an uncomfortable spot, and she would very much like to get out of it, probably as fast as possible, hence the reference to warp speed. "And I know she's not that/Foxy Boys but you gotta owe something sometimes", is most likely a reference to the girl's sexuality, and a demand on the boy's part to step up to his place in the relationship, sexually speaking and otherwise. I'm getting some Raspberry Swirl vibes in this verse. Anyway, that's the best I can make of it for right now.

to me this song is about having a boy friend who you cant call "boyfriend" but still has that undeniable chemistry between you two. date after dates and after a while you two just stop talking. probably because some other woman (for me it was my best friend) got in between you two. this boy is his mommas sunshine and the sweetest cherry in the apple pie. that girl is not that foxy and i need some voodoo on these prunes. i still yearn for that relationship after years. cant help myself but i keep thinking what would happen if we actually became a thing. i know for a fact that he was going to show me spring :/

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
