Standin' on a corner in Winslow Arizona
And I'm quite sure I'm in the wrong song
Two girls sixty five got a piece tied up in the
Back seat
"Honey we're Recovering Christians"

In the springtime of his voodoo
He was going to show me spring

And right there for a minute
I knew you so well

Got an angry snatch
Girls you know what I mean
When swivelin that hip doesn't do the trick
Me pureed sanitarily Mr Sulu
Warp speed
Warp speed
In the springtime of his voodoo

Every road leads back to my door
Every road I will follow
Every road leads back to my door
Got all your crosses loaded

And I know she's not that
I said I know she's not that
Foxy but
You gotta owe something sometimes
You gotta owe
When you're your momma's sunshine
You've got to give something sometimes
When you're the sweetest cherry
In an apple pie
I need some voodoo on these prunes
In the springtime of his voodoo
He was going to show me spring

General Commentomg why has no one commented on this song yet?! its amazing!! one of the best on the original 'boys for Pele album' though i dont think its on all editions. i think its about her looking for guys to give her what she needs in relationships. the 'springtime of his voodoo' refers to that magic/spark there is when you just start out with someone ('the springtime' being the new start with that person, as its the start of the new cycle of the earth) when anything seems possible and its full of potential. however she sees him as being the key to the magik ('HIS voodoo') so inevitably it doesnt work and shes left lamenting all they could have shared - 'He was going to show me spring'. jmo...maybe im reading too much into it lol.

General CommentI think I read an interview that Tori did years ago and she talked about this song. She was talking about sexuality, and the frustration that comes with sometimes not knowing if the guy she was interested in was gay or straight, and wanting to know once and for all if she was wasting her time looking for something more than friendship with him. I think that fits in to the general theme of the song - 'got an angry snatch girls you know what i mean, when swivelling that hip doesn't do that trick' - she's doing everything she can to attract him, pulling out al lthe stops, and he's not falling for it. The end part about 'when you're the sweetest cherry in an apple pie' and 'momma's sunshine' bit refer to this guy who has girls falling all over him, his mother loves him and thinks he's playing the field with them all, when in reality he isn't, and he's in the springtime of his voodoo. Just my interpretation

General CommentI love the line "the sweetest cherry in an apple pie" so much because I can kind of reminds me of the line in Sleeps With Butterflies "I'm not like the girls that you've known, but I believe I'm worth coming home to." It's about knowing your worth it, you're a good, sweet girl, worth a boy's attention, but you don't fit in, you're a bit different. Such an amazing lyric!

My OpinionI think this song is about not trusting men."He WAS GOING to show me spring"... but he never did. Given that this whole album originated from Tori's breakup (but then she generalized it all), I find it hard to believe that this particular song is about anything but a complete lack of trust in all men - rather than in one man.

General CommentOk. I think I might get (some of this).
The reference to Mr. Sulu and warp speed is a Star Trek reference, I believe. And, the idea is that the relationship is in an uncomfortable spot, and she would very much like to get out of it, probably as fast as possible, hence the reference to warp speed.
"And I know she's not that/Foxy Boys but you gotta owe something sometimes", is most likely a reference to the girl's sexuality, and a demand on the boy's part to step up to his place in the relationship, sexually speaking and otherwise. I'm getting some Raspberry Swirl vibes in this verse.
Anyway, that's the best I can make of it for right now.

General CommentA guy has promised her something (metaphor for 'showing her spring'), but never followed thrpugh. It's about being endlessly disappointed by men. "the sweetest cherry in an apple pie" is one of Tori's best lines, in my opinion. Amazing song. Wish is was on all versions of Boys For Pele, deserves to be there much more than the Professional Widow remix :/ If you don't own it, download it, it flows nicely with the rest of the album.
