It's alright what you confess to me
Where you're at right now baby, it's alright with me
Behind your truths or somewhere inside your lies
These long cold days of gray, they color your eyes

And it's alright, what you confide in me
Where we're at right now baby, it's where we need to be
And I can see things so clearly through tear-stained eyes
The side effects of time in all our good-byes, and it's alright

I got lost some time ago,
Lost in your song, your touch, your smile
And where I want to grow old
And you glimmer and gleam like a blond-washed hair from an ocean-side domain

Drifting into me, I found myself again, in her song
It's alright what you say to me
How you feel right now baby, shows an everlasting need
Behind the truth, there's something inside your lies

These long cold days of rain, they're hiding your eyes
And it's alright, what you express to me
Your song escapes me to this place I want to be
So sing to me baby, your song can carry me

Through endless weeks of rain and onto sweeter things
And it's alright
I got lost some time ago,
Lost in your song, your touch, your smile

And where I want to grow old
And you glimmer and gleam like a blond-washed hair from an ocean-side domain
Drifting into me, I found myself again, in her song
Oh sing to me baby, your song can carry me

In all she's revealed I found I could always see
How her ways could flow and run over me
And I found this reason to learn
And I found this reason to decide

As many days come and many days go
I'll never know why
And it's alright
I got lost some time ago,

Lost in your song, your touch, your smile
And where I want to grow old
And you glimmer and gleam like a blond-washed hair from an ocean-side domain
Drifting into me, I found myself again, in her song

I don't think this song is about falling in love, I think this song is about falling out of love.

It's alright what you confess to me Where you're at right now baby, it's alright with me Behind your truths or somewhere inside your lies These long cold days of gray, they color your eyes

She just told him she doesn't love him anymore and he is trying tell her he understands (it's alright). The loss of love she feels is apparent in the true things she says and even in her lies that she has told him. He knows they have had some rough days (cold gray days), and her eyes are now dark (colored). Missing the light they use to have.

And it's alright, what you confide in me Where we're at right now baby, it's where we need to be

Again, it's okay that you don't love me anymore. Emotionally we need to be where feelings take us. Even if it’s out of love

And I can see things so clearly through tear-stained eyes

It’s sad that you don't love me anymore, but it's clear to me what we need to do.

The side effects of time in all our good-byes, and it's alright

Maybe they have attempted multiple times to try and break up before (the goodbyes you say every time you leave someone for awhile) the loss of feelings is a side effect of all the times they tried to leave each other. It’s natural, he understands.

I got lost some time ago, Lost in your song, your touch, your smile And where I want to grow old

He is saying “look I fell in love with you along time ago. I still love you and wanted to be with you forever”. This is him telling her his truth, that he still loves her.

And you glimmer and gleam like a blond-washed hair from an ocean-side domain Drifting into me, I found myself again, in her song

This line is saying she is a siren; sirens are shiny with a long blond hair and they live in the ocean. Sirens lure men by singing to them, the men can’t resist the songs, when they follow the singing they run their boats against rocky shores and they die. He realizes that she is dangerous (loving someone that doesn’t love you is not a safe place to be emotionally). But, he realizes he is caught in her song and she has total control of him.

It's alright what you say to me How you feel right now baby, shows an everlasting need

The everlasting need is her need to feel love for her partner

Behind the truth, there's something inside your lies These long cold days of rain, they're hiding your eyes

He realized that she has felt like this for awhile and has been sad for awhile (long rainy days). You avoid looking directly in someone’s eyes that you don’t have feelings for anymore. You’re afraid they will see the truth in your eyes.

And it's alright, what you express to me Your song escapes me to this place I want to be So sing to me baby, your song can carry me Through endless weeks of rain and onto sweeter things

He is saying keep singing to me. I am going to need something to carry me thru the weeks of sadness that are about to come for me. But, I know it will get better, eventually sweeter things will come. (a new relationship)

In all she's revealed I found I could always see How her ways could flow and run over me

Now that she had told him she doesn’t love him, he now realizes how easily he was controlled by her. Like the way waves flow and run over you at the beach. They are strong and you our powerless against them. You can struggle and try to fight against them, but it is better to just relax and let them take you where they will.

And I found this reason to learn And I found this reason to decide As many days come and many days go I'll never wonder why (this is a correction to the lyrics above) And it's alright

Now that he has this realization and now that he knows she doesn’t love him anymore, he has decided it is best that they break up. In the future when he looks back on this, he won’t have to wonder why it happened. No unanswered questions, it’s clear, and he will have closure. So, it’s alright.

I got lost some time ago, Lost in your song, your touch, your smile And where I want to grow old And you glimmer and gleam like a blond-washed hair from an ocean-side domain Drifting into me, I found myself again, in her song

Although this is just a repeat of the chorus, I think by this point we realize he is thinking about the relationship. Thinking about how much he loved her and realizing he is still caught her song.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
