Target Audience (Narcissus Narcosis)

its about people blaming manson for the problems america has - he's telling the government that he can see their target audience, the mindless young adults who think the US government can do no wrong and blame manson for it.

The song confronts both mindless patriotism and, more directly, militant religious fundamentalists as they deliberately attack certain people, probably morally, and also latch onto the young members to society, all but forcing them to conform to their standard. It's a great song, one of my favourites.

This is probably my favorite Manson track. I think Akasha is spot on with the meaning, it's about how america has a habit of cowering down to bible belt mentality.

I also think it is Manson spitting venom back at the people who were pinning him as the reason society is turning to shit, he is basically saying that he is just commentating on what is happening, and that the fact that people are lifting their heads and opening their eyes, has more to do with people getting sick of being fed the bullshit American dream, than anything he is saying, and that if it wasn't him, someone else would have come along eventually to say the same thing, that basically, a society that is controlled by fear and lies will eventually turn on the people holding the leash.

...This is probably my favorite song of all time. Back when I could still liked Manson.

I think this was Manson's way of attacking those who blame him for all the problems in the world. He states he's just "pitiful anonymous" who's merely standing on the outside, commenting on what he sees. It's not his fault people finally opened their eyes to the fallacies of their society: The youth, "the target audience," being told the "old deceiver's song," and the said audience being expected to conform to that belief.

"You're just a copy of an imitation"...probably my favorite lyrical line in any Manson song.

this is about marilyn being blamed for local violence........the reason:cuz he talks about things in music that adolscents take in a wrong direction----> VIOLENCE!and later pracise it in their lives!but the fact is the opposite.......he never wanted to kill people!

Manson is saying he is just a person " a pitiful anonymous" He is trying to say HEY! do i deal cocaine or am I the one killing people? "Am I sorry for Booth and Oswald, pinks and cocaine too?" This is about more than just the goverment, but I think the media in general targeting the teen audiance to sell products and more importantly...ideas and that most of the populatoin goes along with this "we all just sing their song". Manson is just trying to say we have problems they arent because of me by using a bit of sarcasim.

I think its directed towards religion, maybe kind of pointing out the "get 'em while they're young" tactic that the religion uses and their minds are filled to the brim with things they were taught when they were young and they grow old with the same ideals until they eventually die, never opening their eyes to different individuals or new things.

definatly favorite manson track... i htink it even more appropriate in thsi the age of " W bush"... the people like him... the "old decivers" are doing a wonderful job at brain washing the "young belivers" I cry everytime I hear this song... I only wish more people could have their eyes opened by it... Another profound part is "the valley of death we are free your father's your prison you see" meaning that the ways of our fathers will forever trap us in a decaying world.. we need to break free in order to become better

Echo's of Anne Bradstreets poems, 'pitiful anonymous' meaning that he isn't a threat and that maybe the US should look beyond the easy scapegoat. Shakepeare as a scapegoat could just be a reference to poets or artists ie. Manson and how they get blamed for societies ills when all they really do is point them out.

Manson is one of the greatest songwriters since dylan, although his lyrics are more obscure and harder to interpret.

'Booth and Oswald' two famous assasin's. Maybe an assasin is what society is crying out for, maybe though these assasins were part of the totalitarian government and its seizure of control from those who would present a threat. Whatever they are both key figures in US history and Manson, being the intelligent bloke he is, understands and can highlight this.

Gotta love it, all his work is a challenge to white, christian, hypocritical, consumer based, decadent american society.
