Heart and soul took control
Took control of me
Paid my dues, spread the news
Hands across the sea

Put me down, turned me round
Turned me 'round to see
Marble halls, open doors
Someone found the key

And it's only what you do
That keeps coming back on you
And it's only what you say
That can give yourself away

Underground sight and sound
Human symphony
Heard the voice, had no choice
Needed to be free

Fly me high, touch the sky
Left the earth below
Heard the line, saw the sign
Knew which way to go

'cause it's easier to try
Than to prove it can't be done
And it's easier to stay
Than to turn around and run

It's a blue world
It takes somebody to help somebody
Oh, it's a blue world
It's a new world

It needs somebody to love somebody
Oh, it's a blue world

Heart and soul took control
Took control of me
Paid my dues, spread the news
Hands across the sea

Put me down, turned me round
Turned me round to see
Marble halls, open doors
Someone found the key

And it's only what you do
That keeps coming back on you
And it's only what you say
That can give yourself away

'cause it's easier to try
Than to prove it can't be done
And it's easier to stay
Than to turn around and run

It's a blue world
It takes somebody to help somebody
Oh, it's a blue world
It's a new world

It needs somebody to love somebody
Oh, it's a blue world
It's a blue world
It takes somebody to help somebody

Oh, it's a blue world
It's a new world
It needs somebody to love somebody
Oh, it's a blue world

It looks to me like a 'looking back', retrospective song, about the Counterculture and the sixties. The singer doesn't regret his involvement in it, but he feels now marooned, lost in a cold 80's world where it's almost impossible to find someone who cares for Love and Enlightment.

    My Interpretation

This morning I was meditating and Blue World by the Moody Blues entered my thoughts and feelings. Especially the Line "Underground site and sound, human symphony, heard the voice, had no choice needed to be free." In meditation, you feel as though you are underground, in a cave, secluded, eyes shut, oblivious to outward stimuli. You begin to become aware of your inner world, and you start to hear and see subtle sounds or vibrations and impressions of light. For a human being deep in the pleasant state of meditation it is like a human symphony. The song is very deeply spiritual to me as many of the MB songs. Line by line of Blue World has rich spiritual significance. "The Voice" in this song and other MB songs refers to the Inner Voice of God within you. "Heard the voice, had no choice, needed to be free." The meaning of that line to me means that in the state of meditation upon hearing The Voice, with your one-pointed concentration, you must surrender to it to find your freedom and you really have no choice. The mind cannot argue in that rapturous state. Other lines in the song such as "Fly me high, touch the sky, left the earth below " indicates reaching higher altitudes of unfettered meditation and leaving the earth below with all its earthly concerns. "Someone found the key" means in meditation somebody has risen above the thoughts and cares of earthly existence. Of course, overall, the title of the song "Blue World" indicates a very sad world where lost souls abound living an entirely earthly existence, not knowing the inner blissful states of consciousness once your eyes and ears are closed and you dive deeper and deeper into the Self. Other parts of the song reveal the function of the enlightened or semi-enlightened being is to spread the news of goodness and spirituality by acts of love and goodness for the benefit of mankind. other parts of the song stresses that it is the obligation of the spiritual person who has experienced inner peace to continually bless and teach the world by whatever means or methods at his or her disposal. This is verified by the line "its only what you do that keeps it coming back on you and its only what you say that can give yourself away" which also indicates that the spiritual person needs to keep on giving to continue his growth and blessings upon himself. As with many of the MB songs they are a spiritual lesson, a religion of love and peace. I know that they are not Gurus as the hippies once thought (which truly freaked the Moody Blues out) but the lyrics come to the Moodies from a deeply spiritual center that strikes a chord with all of those that are spiritually minded. That is one of the reasons maybe why The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame does not recognize the Moody Blues. The Moody Blues although vastly popular still are a boutique band and appeal to those of a more spiritual nature. Of course the Moodies are also known for some all time beautiful and classic love songs, but even then there is always a touch of spirituality intertwined with the love and upgrading it to love on a more universal platform. "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band" one of their really great pure rock songs which can really rock with the best of other bands was almost a plea to their audiences not to worship them as Saints or Gurus even though the message of their music offers satsang or wisdom and guidance to spiritual pilgrims. They very humbly state as the title implies that they are just a rock and roll band stalking this earth. Thank you for being patient and reading my thoughts. Anyway, that is what the song means to me. Great Song.

Wow! This is lovely. I don’t know what the heck those little flourishes are but they work. The vocals are beautiful too, as with a lot of MB tracks, and the guitar at the end is very nice. Really good song.

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
