Greek Song Lyrics

You who were born with the sun above your shoulders
You turn me on you turn me on
You have to know
You who were born where the sun she keeps her distance
You turn me on you turn me on
But so does she

You who were born there where beauty is existence
You turn me on you turn me
Your body heals my soul

You who were born where you shiver and you shudder
You turn me on the girl is gone so come on
Let's go

All the pearls of China
Fade astride a volta
Don't sew beelines to anybody's hide
Save your poison for a lover who is on your side

One way is Rome and the other way is Mecca
On either side on either side
Of our motorbike
One way is home and the other way is papa
On either side on either side and
Prepared to strike

When I get back I will bleed after my beating
Don't leave me here don't leave me here
I'm scared to death

All the pearls of China
Fade astride a volta
Don't sew beelines to anybody's hide
Save your poison for a lover who is on your side

All the pearls of China
Fade astride a volta
Don't sew beelines to anybody's hide
Save your poison for a lover who is on your side

Some of these lyrics are wrong...I think what he says is

"When I get home, I will dream in Barnes and Nobles Don't leave me here, don't leave me Where angels fear to tread

When I get back, I will bleed after my beating Don't leave me here, don't leave me here, I'm scared to death

'Where Angels Fear to Tread' is a novel by E. M. Forster. Lillia goes to Italy and falls in love with a handsome Italian, if you're searching for parallels.

@foreign_hand Sure! In that case, there's only one answer: its about a the E.M Forster novel.

This is a beautiful song. It's written as a conversation between two lovers, one a visitor to Greece and the other a native. This is based on an affair Rufus had. He said that he would prefer the beating to dreaming in Barnes and Noble.

I definitely relate to it.

That violin ... the soloing one ... that's the most beautiful thing, um, ever.

I'm not entirely sure what this song is about, although the description wingsofasongbird gave is correct. I think I may have read that somewhere also. Anwyays, I love this song. I love the violins and the beat. It's such a beutiful soothing song, one of my favorites when I'm feeling down. Rufus is such a musical genius! But I'll refrain from pointing out the obvious :]

The solo instrument is not a violin, it is a traditional Chinese instrument called an erhu with two strings. It is played with a bow, like a violin, but has its own special sound. I thought it pretty cool that he talks about the pearls of China and then features a Chinese instrument for the solo.

@azbibliote https://youtu.be/iiKMqz2MhWE?list=SRrufus%20wainwright%20greek%20song Check this, it is a violin that's been played in such a way that sounds very much like an erhu, just like john cale did in Venus in Furs
