Rufus Wainwright – Greek Song Lyrics 16 years ago
'Where Angels Fear to Tread' is a novel by E. M. Forster. Lillia goes to Italy and falls in love with a handsome Italian, if you're searching for parallels.

Paris Hilton – Stars Are Blind Lyrics 18 years ago
Oh dude.
"Those other guys all wanna take me for a ride,
but when I walk they talk of suicide."
They always say that pop stars hire writers to do their lyrics, but Paris DEFINITELY came up with that one herself.

I think it's the "we" that makes me think of corporations. No other person, on their own, uses "we." Unless they are in the Mafia...

Subtle. Good old 'Greek Love.'

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – The Anointed One Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with the whole Bush, Jesus, Ferguson meanings and I also agree with the fact that it probably has loads of double meanings because Ted does that. But, er, does anyone else get the impression from his repetoire that Ted might be bi, or am I on crack?

Kelly Clarkson – Since U Been Gone Lyrics 18 years ago
I never thought the day would come but I am commenting in a kelly clarkson song.

because Ted Leo did the most amazing cover ever and had really made life worth living.

and as a side note I am really sick of the 'omgavril/hillary' comparisons. they just get boring after a while. who cares? they'll all fade away anyhow. why can't we just live and let die?

Franz Ferdinand – Walk Away Lyrics 18 years ago
"Do you know who Franz Ferdinand was? Check in your favourite search engine :) I wonder why they chose this name. Has anybody got any clue?"

I think it was a bunch of different things, but mainly because this little-known archduke called Franz Ferdinand got shot and all of a sudden it was a HUGE deal and he ignited the already brewing WWI. They think that if they can have that kind of effect in the world they've basically done their job. No one will forget Archduke Franz Ferdinand. They think it'll be really cool if, when someone mentions Franz Ferdinand, people think of the band first and the duke second.

There was also something about a horserace involved, but I don't think I'll go into that.

As for the "stab of stilettos" the first thing I think of is yeah, the girl walking away in a pair of heels. But I think it'd be COOLER if they actually meant the stiletto knife. I like how we think of shoes before weapons when people mention stilettos. However in this song stiletto is plural, likely meaning shoes although it is possible that it all ends in murder and evil (Hitler and co.) with two knives. A bit of a stretch, but surely open to interpretation?

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – You Could Die (Or This Might End) Lyrics 18 years ago
It sounds like an overacheiver kind of song. As in always trying really hard. But I can relate and they call me an underachiever. Ted is so beautiful.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Better Dead Than Lead Lyrics 18 years ago
I thought it was a The Who tribute at first. On account of the lines 'Trick of the Light' and 'The Kids Are Alright' which are both Who songs.

Franz Ferdinand – Evil and a Heathen Lyrics 18 years ago
Why is it such a big deal whether or not they've written a song about homosexuality? Granted, this one, when understood in the initial context, is not about being gay but if they did have one that was actually a 'homosexual' song what difference would it make?

Franz Ferdinand – Fade Together Lyrics 18 years ago
"Why is 'Berlin I love you' the most beautiful thing you can sing in a love song?"

Just because. It's the way it sounds. Probably partially in the consonance of the letter 'L' in "Berlin" and "love" and the fact that on it's own I find "Berlin" to be a very euphonic word. Sometimes you shouldn't try to understand songs and just accept it.

I love the end of the track, when you hear the dawn chorus in the Scottish hills. Lovely.

The Ataris – If You Really Want to Hear About It Lyrics 18 years ago
Jamie...are you kidding?

Plenty of well-read rockers out there, a plethora of 'Catcher in the Rye' based songs, and so many great songs about famous books or story characters. Book-rock is the best, combining the two things in life worth anything into one solid entity.

Franz Ferdinand – Walk Away Lyrics 18 years ago
Er...I kind of think raisedbypuffins was joking, alongside therussiancobweb. It seemed pretty clear to me.

But it does make a point of the fact that songs (especially ones such as this that, as said above, are absolute metaphor filled poetry) can be interpreted so many ways depending on your life-perspective. Americans are basically not allowed to forget that stupid affair so, despite the fact that raisedbypuffins seems to be joking, it would be easy for an American to see that message first.

Franz Ferdinand – Walk Away Lyrics 18 years ago
I love the mention of Stalin, Hitler, Churchill and Mao Tse-Tung. The story I heard was that Franz were in a shop in America and saw four little action figures of these leaders standing together and looking happy, which of course would never happen, so they wrote that image into a song. I think it's great.

And this one is amazing in concert, probably the best of the night (next to 40', but only becuase of personal bias). Absolute poetry.

'Berlin I love you,' is the most beautiful thing you could sing in a love song. And I personally hate love songs. But this one is good enough to get past my cruel, stony heart. That's talent.

Is it a bad sign when I find this song speaks perfectly to me?

I swear, on this one all you do is submit yourself to the darker side and listen as the warplanes with searchlights fly over you.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – The High Party Lyrics 18 years ago
Everyone says 'Ballad of the Sin Eater' is the one to hear live, but I think this one matches it for performance quality. It made me think the world would only be fair if everyone got to hear Ted sing this in concert.

they look super young in the video.

forget all i said earlier...this song is really awesome. it's just more complex, and now i'm really hooked. people say, without knowledge of the song "well do you want to?" all the time, and i just start belting it out.

"oh lucky you're so lucky!"

Franz Ferdinand – Do You Want To Lyrics 18 years ago
I thought this was all just stuff Kapranos had heard while clubbing, pieced together and all that. I like the gay idea though, because that's pretty sexy.

I think Franz has done better, so I'm just hoping this doesn't set the tone for the album. I'll make the same comparison I did to Weezer's "Beverly Hills" and that's that this song is pretty good compared to what else is out there, but the band can do even better.

I'm forever reminded of A Series of Unfortunate Events books when I here this for some strange reason. Maybe it's the 'Volunteers' or maybe its just the airs. Anyone else get that? Perhaps I should just go back to my book-filled hovel and keep my strange connections to myself.

I'm damn serious though. Lemony Snicket through-and-through.

i like your info debzypip. i'd never heard the part about echo.

and dorian gray is an amazing book. a personal favourite. it's all about how youth and beauty are the only things that REALLY matter but it's also about how having that but having a corrupted soul sucked just as much as getting old. kindov something like that.

i actually haven't heard this song yet but i'm getting it now. the title attracted me and then the lyrics, so yeah, i'm commenting on a song i've never heard but i don't care. the lyrics look great.

The Oranges Band – Finns For Our Feet Lyrics 18 years ago
This is the reason I love independent music. Where else do you hear about the theories of Darwin in music?

It sounds like it actually started out as a song about beating the heat, then evolved. Just like we would if we were stuck underwater.

the loose sexual vocals.
