He will then be reborn
From 1970's porn
Wearing tubesocks with style
And such an innocent smile

Better pray for your sins
Better pray for your sins
'cause the gay messiah's coming

He will fall from the stars
Studio 54
And appear on the sand
Of Fire Island's shore

Better pray for your sins
Better pray for your sins
'cause the gay messiah's coming

No it will not be me
Rufus the baptist I be
No I won't be the one
Baptized in cum

What will happen instead
Someone will demand my head
And then I will kneel down
And give it to them looking down

Better pray for your sins
Better pray for your sins
'cause the gay messiah's coming

I would argue that today Chrsitians are being more opressed that gays.

What're you smoking? You know it's rude not to share.

Genuine persecution of Christians is rare, and anywhere it happens, there is far worse persecution for homosexuals. (See the two boys executed in Iran after being caught in bed together for a perfect example)

In the US and other first world nations, Christians aren't oppressed. You're imprisoned, executed, fired from your jobs, or denied ANY equal opportunity under the law. All you do is whine when someone says something you don't agree with, or admits outloud they think your belief is stupid. (Like Sam Harris did) That is not at all oppression or even discrimination. Off the cross, someone needs the wood.

I think GunTotingHippy may have taken the intention of this song rather too seriously. It's a deliberately humorous pro-gay song which mocks the undeniably ancient and naive views of Christianity in its approach to homosexuality. The idea of Christ being reborn as gay is hilarious! Imagine what a kick in the arse that would be for the church. The man is an excellent songwriter. Anyone who denounces an artists entire catalogue on one songs and lets one song 'ruin part of their lives forever' is so narrow-minded. Rufus is an icon and has every right to express his opinion in a song without being judged.

GunTotingHippy said "In a fair society this hatred is a form of discirination, and should not be givena chance to be heard."

You are taking this far too seriously. Rufus has the right to write whatever lyrics he like. The rest of his album is great and this song is no exception. If you don't like it, don't listen to it.

Besides, the "discrimination" you claim Rufus is imposing on the church is nothing compared to the "discrimination" the church is imposing of people of alternate sexuality.

This is a brilliant song with hilarious lyrics!

if hate is dicrimination and discrimination is frowned upon by the church, why then, are gay people discriminated by the church. Everyhting is made for a reson by god, right?

And i understand why he might wanna take out his frustrations about the church out in his songs, wouldn't you if you were in his position?

I think it's high time we all take a step back and realise that being gay is not a bad hting, nor should it really matter. Its the type of person you are that matters and being gay has nothing to do with it

You all seem to have missed the

"Rufus the Baptist I be No, I won't be the one baptized in cum What will happen instead? Someone will demand my head And then I will kneel down and give it to him looking down"

being an allusion to john the baptist who whose head was eventually "demanded" albeit a little differently than what rufus has in mind...

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
