Divide Lyrics
I lost myself in shapeless oceans
Whose depths concealed more than they showed
Beliefs obscured by mists around them
A legacy they'd been bestowed
Columns of ice paint awkward pictures
Distorted forms that once seemed real
Engulfed inside transparent textures
Billowing curtains as hard as steel
For all the noise filling the landscape
Whispers & cries with no reply
It's quiet here within these boundaries
And thoughts collect like pools of light
CHORUS
My eyes divide the sky
As sirens sound in heaven
My will brings down the moon
And shatters it to pieces
The silence grew inconsequential
The day became a paradigm
A thousand years, a hundred decades
An arbitrary slice of time
I found myself with no companion
Except the salty earth and sky
And suddenly there came my focus
The world around me clarified
(Chorus)
And so I walked in isolation
Hoping solace would cross my path
Ignored the road that lay behind me
And stepped away from the aftermath
I lost myself in shapeless oceans
Whose waters turned from dark to clear
I floated there, a tiny island
With no more doubt, with no more fear
(Chorus)
Whose depths concealed more than they showed
Beliefs obscured by mists around them
A legacy they'd been bestowed
Distorted forms that once seemed real
Engulfed inside transparent textures
Billowing curtains as hard as steel
Whispers & cries with no reply
It's quiet here within these boundaries
And thoughts collect like pools of light
My eyes divide the sky
As sirens sound in heaven
My will brings down the moon
And shatters it to pieces
The day became a paradigm
A thousand years, a hundred decades
An arbitrary slice of time
Except the salty earth and sky
And suddenly there came my focus
The world around me clarified
Hoping solace would cross my path
Ignored the road that lay behind me
And stepped away from the aftermath
Whose waters turned from dark to clear
I floated there, a tiny island
With no more doubt, with no more fear

No matter how many times I hear this song, I still never quite understand it. If anything, it does remind me of some of the concepts of eastern religions- that our world is made up of illusions, and when we forget ourselves and surrender to all that is eternal, we find enlightenment.
I love the chorus-- just the idea of the will of one human being having power enough to rend the sky and shatter the moon. Would that not be evidence of the strength of the soul?
This guy is alone in his on mind. Solitude is his life. Being alone is all he lives for, and he believes he has the power in him to do anything.
Over anything, i find this to be a very dark, and empowering song.
this is definitely a song about isolation. he is lost within himself; lost inside his own mind. i particularly like this song, however, because it describes him becoming comfortable in this state. early on, he is "awkward" and uncomfortable (curtains as hard as steel). but as time passes, the solitude becomes "inconsequential". even though he has no companion, and thus life has no meaning or form (shapeless oceans), he finds clarity in the darkness. in the end, he is no longer afraid of being alone and has no more doubts about his isolated existence.
