This song made me cry the first time I heard it. The words are so powerful and yet so beautiful. This is one of my favorite songs by Assemblage 23. I can really relate to the words.

Who couldn't cry at the raw emotion Tom Shear lets loose in this song. This song is about his father, God Rest His Soul, who had killed himself. This, in my opinion, is the pinnacle of song-writing for Tom. He's such a talented writer, and even though I am so sorry he had to witness such a harsh experience that no one should ever had to go through, it impresses me that he could make such beautiful music using what had happened. Thank you, Tom, for this. You have no idea how many people you've affected

This song reminds me of my ex boyfriend. Words similar to those of Tom's were spoken by him when he came to visit me at the hospital. I cry everytime I hear this song. But I love it so much. It's very touching. And it makes me think alot about things. Thank you Tom for writing this beautiful work of art.

The "first two lines of the song" that WyldeChilde is refering to is actually a sounclip from a movie. (Can't remember which one though.) Tom doesn't say/sing those words.
I recently saw A23 in concert, and there are no words to describe what it was like to see Tom perform this song live. I still get chills when I think about him up there on the stage, putting his heart and soul into this beautiful song about his father. My favorite part of the song is Though you are gone I am still your son And while your pain is over Mine has just begun. There was so much real emotion on his face when he sang that part, so much pain, so many questions, so many regrets, so much heartbreak. I was so moved by his performance, I started to cry.
If you ever have an opportunity to see Tom live, go. It's SO worth it.
My boyfriend played this song for me because he thinks he's a disappointment, it's funny.... Oh but I really love this song. At first I thought it was about some girl and I wasn't too interested but then I actually listened to it and now I see it's about suicide... and yeah... the meaning of this song is not up for debate really. It is what it is...
