Lullaby Lyrics

May you find solace in the gentle arms of sleep
Despite the wolves outside your door
In time you will see them all as harmless
And their idle threats easy to ignore

And if ever fate should choose to smite you
Stand your ground, never walk away
Please don't ever let the world defeat you
Don't get buried in its decay

As you drift into the gauzy realm of dreams
May you take comfort in the thought that you are safe
For it only takes a fraction of a second
For all of this to change

CHORUS
Return to me
When slumber's fog has lifted
Return to me
Stronger than before

As you sink beneath the soothing streams of time
May you be thankful that you had another day
For there comes a time when each of us will enter
A sleep from which we will never wake

And if ever fate should choose to smite you
Stand your ground, never walk away
Please don't ever let the world defeat you
Don't get buried in its decay

Close your eyes now, if only for a moment
For it's time you get some rest
The wolves are gone and nothing here can harm you
Let go of your fragile consciousness

It's strange that no one has commented on this song. It is the one that I use to introduce my friends to Assemblage 23, and for some of them the only song they like by A23. Depressing for something that should be so cheerful, but still beautiful

Is this an anti-suicide song, a la Adams Song? Whatever it is, it's really nice. I don't care much for Tom Shear's other music, but this is just, as enchiridion put it, beautiful.

This song was first introduced to me when I was depressed and really in the gutter by a guy friend who started singing it to me.. it made me cry but in a good way. This song is so beautiful..

so i cant believe theres pretty much no comments for this song, because its so beautiful.

i guess it has more of an impact when you listen to it with someone you care about, though. i fall asleep to it almost night, it makes me feel safe when i cant be with the person who does.

It's a great song. Perfect to listen to while snuggling up with a lover and falling asleep. I could listen to it on repeat for hours and not get tired of it.

The lyrics of this song may sound happy but are about death.

It's saying that death is a sleep to look forward to.

Not preaching death, but that's how I see it.

Also I see some empowerment in these lyrics: "Stand your ground, never walk away Please don't ever let the world defeat you Don't get buried in its decay"

There seems to be some sort of empowerment in all of their songs.

I can't believe this song barely has any comments. It's my favorite song of all time, because of it's calming mood and beautiful, simple lyrics and my own personal memories with it. Like someone else said though, i'm sure it has a much more intense impact if you listen to it with someone you care about. I know that's why it's so beautiful to me.

I disagree. The line

"As you sink beneath the soothing streams of time May you be thankful that you had another day For there comes a time when each of us will enter A sleep from which we will never wake"

seems to be saying "be thankful you're still alive."
