I Am The Rain Lyrics

Too eager to appease
The cure is the disease
And it's only growing worse

Day by day it takes its hold
Divides its cells a thousandfold
And makes your blindness seem perverse

Out of sight and out of mind
Are deadly traits when they're combined
But it's easier that way

Sit and watch the world go by
While all the problems multiply
With nothing left to do but pray

CHORUS
I am the rain
Falling down to cover you
Wish me away
But I'm here for your own good
I am the storm
Sent to wake you from your dream
Show me your scorn
But you'll thank me in the end

These amenities are nice
But there is need for sacrifice
You must lose so you may gain

It's too easy to malign
The implements that steal our time
But it's we who are to blame

Fill your pockets while you can
And try to keep the upper hand
The voice of reason sounds so shrill

Surround yourself with all you own
Work your fingers to the bone
And happiness evades you still

(Chorus)

Too eager to appease
You've lost the forest for the trees
And it really is a shame

It is such a sorry sight
When you evaluate your life
You've only got yourself to blame

(Chorus)

It is such a sorry sight When you evaluate your life You've only got yourself to blame

I'm pretty sure that its supposed to be "It is such a sorry sight / when you evaluate your plight".

  • gasmask got it correct.

All about Karma. Going towards they light and giving up amenities. Losing your out of sight and out of mind ideas, stop dwelling/living in the past. Let stupid things go, dont care about materalist ways and concentrate within you (spiritual) "These amenities are nice But there is need for sacrifice You must lose so you may gain" Karma will come to you in the weirdest ways but it will come back weither it be good or bad. "Surround yourself with all you own Work your fingers to the bone And happiness evades you still"

So I was married once, to this guy who was pretty well off, but you know I was really actually pretty miserable (don't get me wrong- i wasn't in it for the money, we were broke when we first started out but you know over time better jobs and such) You spend 6 years with someone, its hard to see its over-the one day my best friend and i were sitiing in the car, pouring rain outside, and he sang me this song, and he was right... and yes he is my rain

Falling down to cover you Wish me away But I'm here for your own good I am the storm Sent to wake you from your dream Show me your scorn But you'll thank me in the end

because i hated him for acknowleding my feelings and i wished him away... why must he compicate my life?

but he was right and two years later, the two of us couldn't be happier together....

so yeah there's my love story :P

This song is about the current state of humanity The first part is, how we create super diseases by trying to find a cure for everything. Diseases are constantly evolving, and as we find cures to 'beat' them, they grow even stronger.

The second part is about capitalism and consumerism. We work so damn hard. And what for? To buy up some crap we don't even need.

He says he is the rain. He rains on our parade to spoil everything, yet he's here for "our own good". The truth hurts, reality is painful. Stop running from the pain, and open your ears/eyes.

Pretty much, he's saying we want everything our way, and we want to be so free of pain. By struggling to escape pain, we create even worse forms of punishment. We, as human beings, should accept our suffering, and stop trying to escape from it.

I think this song is about religion and consumerism.

I think it is about religion because religion often is the "cure" which seems to multiply. He calls religion the cure because makes people "happy", but it is the disease because it makes people blind. It makes people sit and just pray as their problems pile up.

The consumerism point is noticeable when he says things like "These amenities are nice" clearly talking about all the little things people can buy to comfort themselves. He says "Fill your pockets while you can - And try to keep the upper hand" because I think he is sad that consumerism is turning people against each other. People value things more than other people. I think when he says "Surround yourself with all you own - Work your fingers to the bone - And happiness evades you still" he is talking about the people who measure their self worth in terms of their net worth, and yet no matter how much they have, they don't feel happy.

Also I think he is saying that, ultimately, we are responsible and that we cannot make excuses. This is evident when he says "It's too easy to malign - The implements that steal our time - But it's we who are to blame" I think he is saying that we should point our fingers at corporations because they just give us what we want. Also he says "You've only got yourself to blame" and "Too eager to appease" which gives me the sense that there are people who want to appease so they can be blind to the problems, like I was talking about the religious part earlier, but that we need to be hard on ourselves for our own benefit. "You must lose so you may gain"
