I can't find a better reason
to run outside and start screamin
I start out frantic and panicked from the start
terrible discomfort from my fast beating heart
no matter what I say they all turn away

nobody wants to listen today
is it the way that I look or the way that I sound?
This terrible warning I beg is profound
I have great knowledge and insight to tell
this world is soon going to be hell

I grab onto a stranger's should begging him to listen
he pushes me down telling me not to touch him
as the rain falls from the sky in a dreadful glisten
I lay on the pavement soaked and cold
completely dumb found that no one wants to be told

it's the trains it's the trees
it's the cold north wind breeze
everything is see is a warning to me
this all feels wrong none of this can be real
after the dream that I had I don't know what to feel

the highway behind and steel tracks out front
the free way to my left and Blaine a city to stunt
lights in the skies and dirt down below
no matter which way I look there's nowhere to go
the light rail! Yes the light rail with a tunnel down below

I go back to my room where it is a mess
I need to get packed and find out how to dress
stuff little of what I own into one little bag
leave behind everything else that I had
run down the street to where the trains are to meet

roll my eyes to the back of my head
if I don't help we'll all be dead
these thoughts run through my mind
as I run down 3rd st and 61st ave

down to the station underground hall
trying to warn people and remain calm
I got to tell the people now - I have to tell the people now

the less the people listen the more frantic I get
I keep trying nearly yelling no one is listening yet
from person to person I try to warn them
then I realize I I got the wrong attention

the officer drew close and I tried to run
I didn't get far,got tackled to the ground
handcuffed and taken to the far end of town...

Ministry
Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Head > Heels
Ed Sheeran
“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
