Ashes of Eden Lyrics

Will the faithful be rewarded when we come to the end?
Will I miss the final warning from the lie that I have lived?
Is there anybody calling? I can see the soul within
And I am not worthy, I am not worthy of this

Are you with me after all?
Why can't you I hear you?
Are you with me through it all?
Then why can't I feel you?

Stay with me, don't let me go
Because there's nothing left at all
Stay with me, don't let me go
Until the Ashes of Eden fall

Will the darkness fall upon me when the air is growing thin?
Will the light begin to pull me to it's ever lasting will?
I can hear the voices haunting, there is nothing left to fear
And I am still calling, I am still calling to you

Are you with me after all?
Why can't you I hear you?
Are you with me through it all?
Then why can't I feel you?

Stay with me, don't let me go
Because there's nothing left at all
Stay with me, don't let me go
Until the Ashes of Eden fall

Don't let go, don't let go, don't let go, don't let go
Don't let go, don't let go

Why can't I hear you?

Stay with me, don't let me go
(Don't let go, don't let go, don't let go, don't let go)
Because there's nothing left at all
Stay with me, don't let me go
(Don't let go, don't let go, don't let go, don't let go)
Until the Ashes of Eden fall

Stay with me, don't let me go
Heaven above me take my hand
Shine until there's nothing left but you
Stay with me, don't let me go
Heaven above me take my hand
Shine until there's nothing left but you

This album's version of Without You and I love this ballad! This is so beautiful, Ben you've outdone yourself on this one. This person is afraid of dying because he doesn't feel worthy of a good afterlife so he just wants to stay on earth, alive. It doesn't matter if he's destitute, he's questioning his afterlife and has doubts. He doesn't hear or see the person he wants to stay with him because he's already dead this is OKAY! His rebirth has already begun. So beautiful!

Will the faithful be rewarded When we come to the end (Will he ever get to see her again) Will I miss the final warning From the lie that I have lived (He is with someone else but knows she’s not the one) Is there anybody calling (Is she looking for him too?) I can see the soul within (He once saw into her soul and remembers its beauty) And I am not worthy (He doesn’t feel worthy of her) I am not worthy of this (He doesn’t feel good enough to have her as his soulmate) Are you with me after all (Is she really his?) Why can't I hear you (Where are you if you’re real?) Are you with me through it all (Is she always going to be with him?) Then why can't I feel you (Why can’t he feel her around?) Stay with me, don't let me go (He doesn’t want her to give up on him) Because there's nothing left at all (He’s empty inside without her) Stay with me, don't let me go (He wants her to be his) Until the Ashes of Eden fall (until the end of the world. Until the end of time. Until temptation subsides.) Will the darkness fall upon me (Will he get lost) When the air is growing thin (When he feels like he can’t breathe) Will the light begin to pull me (Will he find her?) To its everlasting will (Will it last forever?) I can hear the voices haunting (Memories from the past) There is nothing left to fear (He knows he has nothing to fear and she’s reassuring him.) And I am still calling (He’s still searching for her. He wants to be found) I am still calling to you (He longs to be with her) Are you with me after all (Has she been with him since the beginning?) Why can't I hear you (He can’t hear her and he wonders if she’s out there) Are you with me through it all (He wants to know if their lives eventually parallel and align together?) Then why can't I feel you (He needs something more. Something physical to convince him it’s real) Stay with me, don't let me go (He begs her to not give up on him) Because there's nothing left at all (He has nothing without her.) Stay with me, don't let me go (He wants her to keep searching and feeling the same things he feels for her) Until the Ashes of Eden fall (Until it’s all over. Reference to the Garden of Eden. In a way he feels like he’s Adam and she’s Eve. She seduced him and he fell in love with her. Through reincarnation, he’s still searching for his Eve.) (Don't let go) Why can't I hear you (If she’s out there, why hasn’t he felt her love?) Stay with me, don't let me go (Don’t give up hope) Because there's nothing left at all (Nothing matters except for their love) Stay with me, don't let me go Until the Ashes of Eden fall Heaven above me, take my hand (He refers to her as heaven. He wants her to find her way to him) Shine until there's nothing left but you (He wants to bring out the best in her. He wants her to shine so bright that he won’t be able to see anything besides her, because he’s been in the dark for so long) Heaven above me, take my hand Shine until there's nothing left but you (I think the song is about true love, but mostly soulmates. You can be in a relationship and feel like you love someone. You go through the routine of the relationship and marriage. Having kids. Raising kids. But a part of you will always feel a little bit empty once you’ve met your true soulmate. It doesn’t always work out with them, and sometimes you can’t even be friends anymore. You let them go and they let you go. A few years pass and you realize that they’re all you ever needed in your life. You wonder if you’ll ever see them again. When you finally do meet them, even if you were reincarnated, you know your souls will recognize each other and have a special connection that no one else can see or understand. Your soulmate will always feel like home. It’s more than a friendship and more than love. It’s a special kind of bond that two people share only once in a lifetime.)

My Interpretation

@immafanofthat No offense pal, but I have to respectfully disagree. The lyrics are obviously religious. They make no sense with what you interpreted it as.

This song is so fucking perfect and Ben's voice....gaaahhhh. Anyway, I'm sure the meaning to this song is personal to a lot of people and I've read all kinds of posts about the religious interpretations (blaaahhh). But to me, it's about someone I've been through some shit with. BB has always been our unspoken but mutually understood thing (Forget It and Sooner or Later and Breath) . We recently parted ways, once again, but I know it's not over. And it never will be. Everybody has one of those people.

My Interpretation

@Inside_a_spiral_notebook so all the people that have posted towards a religious meaning are wrong according to you? thank you for letting us all know the TRUE interpretation of this song!

I do in fact think the song has religious ties to it; I believe one of the band members was a christian. He informed Ben about God, although Ben didn't really know what to think in the matter. Ben is afraid of dying, he has a lot of phobias, and in this song, in a way, he's asking God, if he exists, why can't he hear him? Why is he not answering him if he exists? He wants to live and is so terrified of so many things, and his last hope, seemingly, is this god, if it exists at all.

My Interpretation

@Twisted4000 I agree. This song definitely sounds like a prayer to God. I feel Ben saying "God, I want you to be real but I can't find enough reasons to believe day to day and yet I still have hope that you are there so I won't let go."

@Twisted4000 I could accept it as a love song to a woman, except for the line 'Shine until there's nothing left but you'. That speaks of nothing but God to me.

The author of the song is religious and still believe in christ/god and admits he's not worth of gods grace but is pleading for christ/god to stay in his heart. Many people in this day and age grew up religious but have lost their faith due to education conversations with peers etc etc but the writer of this song is trying to reclaim his faith only now though it seems as if god/christ is more sutle and more distan in the authors life. The author perhaps once to percieve gods presense the way he did as a child and pleads with christ to not abandon him.

Will the faithful be rewarded When we come to the end Will those that still have faith see god/christ after they die.

Will I miss the final warning From the lie that I have lived

There was a time the autor lost his faith (The lie that he has lived) and is wondering if he will die in disbelife of god/christ too late to reconcile his faith. the author is most likely vacillating between faith and unbelief and is wondering if he will believe at the time of his death.

Is there anybody calling I can see the soul within Will christ/god hear his pleas for salvation. The author asserts he believes in the soul. He can feel it within and he's not pursaded by materialist arguments. And I am not worthy I am not worthy of this The author feels unworthy of salvation as he believes he has abandoned god in the past.

Are you with me after all Why can't I hear you Are you with me through it all Then why can't I feel you

The author questions if god/christ is still present in his heart. Unlike his child hood experiences god/christ now feels more distant now to the point that he is asking if he's even with him.

Stay with me, don't let me go Because there's nothing left at all Stay with me, don't let me go Until the Ashes of Eden fall The author is requesting that god/christ stay with him untill the end of time. He no longer wants to vasilat between belief and disbelief.

Will the darkness fall upon me When the air is growing thin Will the light begin to pull me To its everlasting will I can hear the voices haunting There is nothing left to fear And I am still calling I am still calling to you In the authors final hour he questions if the god/christs light will pull him in and ease his fear of the transition to the afterlife. He wants to be free of his fear as he approaches the end of his life.

Heaven above me, take my hand Shine until there's nothing left but you Heaven above me, take my hand Shine until there's nothing left but you

The author declares he wants christs kingdom to shine on his life till he is nolonger the person he was. A doubter trapped in the nihilism of atheism. He wants that person he was to go away so that he can feel the presense of the kingdom of heaven again.

I would argue that this song and a lot of the album is about what he revealed in the interview about his health problems. He said that no one can figure out what's wrong with him and that he couldn't wait to make music any longer. He then went on to say that if he goes down, at least he'll go down doing what he loves. I don't know Ben's religious beliefs but I think a lot of the album is written about his facing the reality of death.

Song Meaning

This is just me being a nerd but I first thaught it was a movie in the future and the earth is ending (ashes). And he is missing the evacuation ship or something (first verse) and all that shit but that's my imagination. It is probably Ben's recent health issues.

It could be about soul mates and the video makes me believe it is.

It could also be religious in a way, asking if God has been the one guiding him to the right path and people for his greater purpose. He wonders if you do exist, and have been watching me all this time, then why can't I see or feel you? It's like acknowledging okay, I've been blessed in life but I've also gone through so much and it's hard for me to believe in something I can't see, but you are out there right?

Either meaning, it's still a beautiful song.

My grandfather is passing very soon, it's only a matter of time. What a coincidence I find this song.

This to me is a song about denying and further accepting the death of a loved one, as it is for me.

My Interpretation

I think it is simple the song is for adam who is exiled in Eden let's part this. Will the faithful be rewarded \ When we come to the end / (It is the time when eve ask adam to eat the fruit He know that God will be angry when he do this but he'll do it for the sake of eve) Will I miss the final warning \ From the lie that I have lived / (Clearly this line is after they eat the fruit the lie means they eat the fruit so they will live in something that they don't know if it is the truth or not) Is there anybody calling \ I can see the soul within / (Adam heard God but it is too late) And I am not worthy \ I am not worthy of this / (It is clearly that adam regret what he have done that's why he said he is not worthy for the lord) Are you with me after all \ Why can't I hear you \ Are you with me through it all / Then why can't I feel you / (This lines saying where is God after they exiled in Eden) Stay with me don't let me go \ Because there's nothing left at all \ Stay with me don't let me go / Until the ashes of Eden fall / (He's saying that God please stay with him so he can survive in all challenge that bring life brings) Will the darkness fall upon me \ When the air is growing thin / (He's exiled now) Will the light begin to pull me \ To its everlasting will / I can hear the voices haunting \ There is nothing left to fear / (He thinks that God is not in his side now so He don't know who is to fear) And I am still calling \ I am still calling to you / Clearly He's calling to God) Are you with me after all Why can't I hear you Are you with me through it all Then Why can't I feel you Stay with me don't let me go Because there's nothing left at all Stay with me don't let me go Until the ashes of Eden fall Don't let go Don't let go Don't let go Don't let go Don't let go Don't let go Why can't I hear you Stay with me don't let me go Because there's nothing left at all Stay with me don't let me go Until the ashes of Eden fall Heaven above me \ Take my hand \ Shine until there's nothing left but you \ Heaven above me / Take my hand / Shine until there's nothing left but you/ (He is asking for God's guidance until he's last breath)

and this is how I understand the song It is the story of adam P.S sorry for my english because it is not my native language
