The Great Divide Lyrics
Carry me all through the night
I am the last light fading
Leave all the lost souls behind
Show me the silence breaking
And when you're lost and out of time
I will be right here waiting
And when you're dreams return to life
I'll be forever fading
And we'll fall behind
So I'll wait for you as I keep your faith alive
And I'll pray for you as we cross the great divide
Bury the wounds deep inside
Rupture the fog, light breaking
Shame on the world left behind
Show us we're worth forsaking
And when the cold begins to rise,
darkness is overtaking
And when the fear is satisfied
I'll be forever changing
As we all collide
So I'll wait for you as I keep your faith alive
And I'll pray for you as we cross the great divide
And I'll break for you as I open up the sky
And I'll stay for you as we cross the great divide
Follow the sunlight down
Cry clear and loud
Heaven would help us now
But it's better this way
Warm light wash me away
So I'll wait for you as I keep your faith alive
And I'll pray for you as we cross the great divide
And I'll break for you as I open up the sky
And I'll stay for you as we cross the great divide
I am the last light fading
Leave all the lost souls behind
Show me the silence breaking
I will be right here waiting
And when you're dreams return to life
I'll be forever fading
And we'll fall behind
And I'll pray for you as we cross the great divide
Rupture the fog, light breaking
Shame on the world left behind

This song is a "in your face, this is how it's supposed to be" to "Hollow". This singer is basically promising to never leave the loved one - whether a friend, wife, brother, etc. basically sacrificing himself and staying behind to help a lost soul - beyond redemption. Pretty cool and rad but tragic in a way.
He loves someone enough to wait for them before crossing over to heaven. He'll keep their faith alive and pray for them. The person he's referring to believes in God but somehow fell off the track ("And I'll keep your faith alive") The person he's talking to no longer believes in the things they used to, probably because they've been lost in the dark or living a life of bad decisions. It doesn't make them a bad person, just that they're making bad choices.
And I'll stay for you As we cross the great divide--->>> He'll stay left behind or in limbo until they can both cross over together.
He's very devoted to his loved one. Beautiful song!
@longsuffering Do you think maybe this is a song to him, from someone else? I noticed a couple of things. The song Ashes of Eden really sounds like a song about faith and God. I also noticed this is his first album where it's not explicit ( No Parental Advisory), also to back up my statement, he did add a member of the band "Red" to the band, which is known as a Positive Alternative / Christian band. Also, in the song Evil Angel, it sounds like he was almost mad that he believed in God, like he was...

I agree with both of the above anaylisis'. I would add that I was disappointed in the line: "Heaven wont help us now", in the last bridge. Until that point I was extremely inspired by the lyrics; then it sounded like he lost his own faith. Maybe I'm not interpreting correctly. I believe Heaven will help us, if our faith is strong enough. Otherwise I love the song.BB is my favorite band. I'm 59 by the way.
