In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Standing on the edge of a revolution
Hey, hey, just obey
Your secret's safe with the NSA
In God we trust or the CIA?
Standing on the edge of a revolution
Yeah, we're standing on the edge of a revolution
Revolution, revolution, revolution
No, we won't give up, we won't go away
'Cause we're not about to live in this mass delusion
No, we don't wanna hear another word you say
'Cause we know they're all depending on mass confusion
No, we can't turn back, we can't turn away
'Cause it's time we all relied on the last solution
No, we won't lay down and accept this fate
'Cause we're standing on the edge of a revolution
Wall Street, common thief
When they get caught they all go free
A brand new yacht and a finders fee
Standing on the edge of a revolution
Same shit, different day
Can't keep fed if I can't get paid
We'll all be dead if the shit don't change
Standing on the edge of a revolution
Yeah, we're standing on the edge of a revolution
Revolution, revolution, revolution
No, we won't give up, we won't go away

Hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey
What do we want? We want the change
And how're we gonna get there? Revolution
What do we want? We want the change

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
To me it sounds like a big middle finger to the people who despise Nickelback. They're saying whether you love us or hate it we're here to stay. Especially in the first few lines of the chorus. Good song and I'm glad they're here to stay! \m/
@STP1992 I am really glad as well!! I like Nickelback a lot!! I like their old stuff, their pop stuff, their heavy stuff, and their new stuff! I like it all!! I really don't understand how people do like this band! Seems like my best friend, my brother, my dad, and I are the only ones to like Nickelback! Of course that isn't true, they have to have other fans as well, but I hope you get it!

I actually never thought that this song could be about the anti-fans, never thought about that until now! The nice thing about music is, what ever meaning someone puts on it is right!!! I always kind of thought about the US Gov. And we CAN both be right!!! Thanks for being a fan of Nickelback! lol!!
I agree with a prior comment about this being a big FU to those that have slated Nickelback in a rather derogatory fashion in the past.
However, I also think this song's message is one hell of a political statement.
It has to do with all the news media confusing people into thinking what's right and wrong. It's saying that it's not fair for the thieves of Wall Street, the NSA, etc. get away with crimes that they commit and that we the people won't put up with their crap. Revolution is the only way to get them to listen to us. However, they forgot about Charles Ponzi, the inventor of the Ponzi scheme and Bernie Madoff. They got punished for their crimes.
@seeing I agree because of the what that projector is playing in the background of the music video
