I will keep quiet
You won't even know I'm here
You won't suspect a thing
You won't see me in the mirror
But I crept into your heart
You can't make me disappear
Til I make you

I made myself at home
In the cobwebs and the lies
I'm learning all your tricks
I can hurt you from inside
I made myself a promise
You would never see me cry
Til I make you

You'll never know what hit you
Won't see me closing in
I'm gonna make you suffer
This hell you put me in
I'm underneath your skin
The devil within
You'll never know what hit you

I will be here
When you think you're all alone
Seeping through the cracks
I'm the poison in your bones
My love is your disease
I won't let it set you free
Til I break you

You'll never know what hit you
Won't see me closing in
I'm gonna make you suffer
This hell you put me in
I'm underneath your skin
The devil within
You'll never know what hit you

I tried to be the lover to your nightmare
Look what you made of me
Now I'm a heavy burden that you can't bear
Look what you made of me
Look what you made of me
I'll make you see

You'll never know what hit you
Won't see me closing in
I'm gonna make you suffer
This hell you put me in
I'm underneath your skin
The devil within
You'll never know what hit you

The devil within
You'll never know what hit you

    My Interpretation

A lot of this song in my own language I see can it speaking about a split personality within yourself.

-I will keep quite. You won't even know I'm here. You won't suspect a thing. You won't see me in the mirror. But I crept into your heart. You can't make me disappear.-

The above I feel talks about when the split begins, the other is there, but you obviously cannot see them. Thus blackouts begins and it starts to take form, you cannot really do anything because you are not sure of what is happening.

-I made myself at home. In the cobwebs and the lies. I'm learning all your tricks. I can hurt you from inside. I made myself a promise. You would never see me cry.-

This top statement I feel brings the fact that this split can see everything about you now. Knowing how to use things against you because of this. The first part representing this is something that won't just "go away" and it will be there.

Throughout the song there are a ton of hints for this to be a meaning. When you suffer from DID, you tend to go through everyday feeling like something bad is going to happen, unsure of how the other(s) will react. And it slowly begins to take effect on your own mind, and it weighs heavy. The Devil Within, is how you will look at it for a long time.

    My Interpretation

I truly believe this song is a dedication or rather an interpretation of those who are just sadist , evil, yet suffer from some type of mental illness, it is almost like a story of those who are to crazy to and feel like someone has betrayed them so they do what they only see as the right thing there way.... stalking, decieve, destroy ,.... murder. Another ... talks about someone who is obsessed and is blinded by love to the point that the will do anything to keep there companion by their side and will destroy

Another theory... someone who is planning a sweet revenge on someone.

    My Opinion

Its like, a sadist is thinking. Like me, i have DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) and im sadist (one who likes to hurt eachother and punish them for things, they didnt do.). So do I think. I like this song, thinking singing this to my victim who is siting in front of me laying on a table and getting lost. I kill his mind and hes done in his brain. And then I'm killing him slowly...

I believe this song is about a persons conscience. Someone did something they deep down didn't believe they should have and their conscience over it starts to eat at them from the inside.

IMO The devil within refers to the repressed feelings that we think are under control but are always back building. This can be many issues; depression, anger, eating disorders, mental disorders etc inner struggle

    My Interpretation

This song can talk about a lot of mental issues, that tend to hide themselves. The song being focused on the person, and not on "victims", I'm not sure about the sadist interpretation. It doesn't feel like someone trying to slowly manipulate and hurt someone else, but instead of a part of the mind slowly taking control. If you link it with something like depression, it seems to fit relatively well.

Depression in its chronic form usually comes slowly, in a way that makes it hard if not impossible to detect. It takes its place in the "dark corners" of the mind, insecurities, and such, which fit "the cobwebs and the lies".

While depression can be seen as an ennemy to fight, it usually ends up in self-harm, people will hurt themselves hoping that it will reduce the depressive thoughts, even momentarily. Thus the "you would never see me cry till I make you".

A lot of other verses can also follow this logic. "When you think you're all alone" -> Depression grows stronger when people are alone "I'm the poison in your bones" -> Depression tends to have a paralysing effect, it prevents people from doing anything, even physically "My love is your disease" -> Depression tends to be "comforting", it makes people think that being depressed is what should be, and won't want to change it "I won't let it set you free" -> Same as before, depressed people think that they don't deserve to be "cured", because it is what depressive thoughts tell them "I'm underneath your skin" -> Depression will also hide itself from the outside. Depressed people will try to look happy, because they don't feel like they "deserve" to be really depressed. So while they act as usual, they feel depression creeping under their looks, unseen but far from powerless.

    My Interpretation

I believe these lyrics are of an addiction speaking to the addict. The words are cleverly open to interpretation and could apply to many forms of mental states. The cruelty threatened by the speaker would fit right in to how addiction tears a person down.

Lines like; My love is your disease, I won't let it set you free

Clever words I would have loved to have thought of when I was in rehab. Most people in rehab write about walking a long road or such. This is much deeper and darker as addiction actually is, especially if one can not shake it.

    My Interpretation

I interpret this song as being about a victim of sexual assault, and the desire that the rapist carries a guilt, that festers in them. Either that or the concept of a dark obsession, loving someone that you want to control because they aren't what you thought they were.

    My Interpretation

In my opinion this song is about a woman in relationship, who is obsessed with her partner. They are relatively happy together but the girl sees that the man doesn't love her as much as she does. She keeps getting hurt over small things but doesn't show it, instead she develops obsession about keeping him closer to make him hurt. The man unaware of real state of things likes her more and more...

It may be over overinterpretation but text is suggesting that the victim is close to the persona.

I think this song is about pure revenge and to act as a snake through there veins a "disease" and I also think it shows a sign of naivety or cockiness Like there saying "Come at me" and finally they have been put through mind repulsive and hellish abuse

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
