In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
One day my prayers are gonna be answered
For so long I been hungry for something else
Where there's a will and there's a way
I work hard 'cause at the end of the day
The Lord helps those who help themselves
Hey hey I keep my head down, but I keep on swingin'
Hey I keep my head down, but I keep on swingin'
Hey I keep my head down, but I keep on swingin'
Hey I keep my head down, but I keep on swingin'
Right now somebody's counting my money
So much they can't see the top of the stack
Where there's a will and there's a way
Money's gonna find my hand one day
When it does I ain't looking back
Hey, hey I keep my head down, but I keep on swingin'
Hey I keep my head down, but I keep on swingin'
Hey I keep my head down, but I keep on swingin'
Hey I keep my head down, but I keep on
Hey, hey I keep my head down, but I keep on swingin'
Hey I keep my head down, but I keep on swingin'
Hey I keep my head down, but I keep on swingin'
Hey I keep my head down, but I keep on swingin'
Hey I keep my head down, but I keep on swingin'
Hey I keep my head down, but I keep on swingin'
Keep on swingin', keep on swingin', keep on swingin', keep on swingin'

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
Magical

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
For me, this song is about hard work and the American Dream.
Life is about hard work that always will turn itself to gold: "My prayers are gonna be answered." And "when there's a will, there's a way", so if you want to, you will reach your goals and you musn't search for reasons why it shouldn't work. If one knows that "at the end of the day The Lord helps those that help themselves" it is much easier to get through life. Not as other people who always moan when ther's something that has to be done.
The chorus says that you can live a humble life ("keep my head down") but you still can be happy, proud of yourself and self-confident ("keep on swinging")
The second stanza shows how it is, when you have reached what you wanted. You'll see that the work was worth the suffering and you feel superior to all the people who hated and were against you
I believe the song is about how religion is a bit out dated and losing the belief or realizing how religion does not seem logical..
"One day, my prayers are gonna be answered For so long, I've been hungry for something else" -I believe this line is the realization that there might be no god. However, keeping faith hoping that one day his prayers would be answered.
"When there's a will there's a way I work hard because at the end of the day The Lord helps those that help themselves" -This line I see it as realizing that even though you have faith in god, you won't achieve anything in life unless you work for it.
"Right now, somebody's counting my money So much that they can't see the top of the stack" -This is the fact about how much religion steals from those who are so into it. How religion rakes in money from people who can be easily persuade into "Donating to the church of god"
"When there's a will there's a way That money's gonna find my hand one day And when it does, I ain't looking back" -I have trouble with this one. It may have something to do with Karma and how him believing or being a sheep to religion is going to help him in the end.
"Hey hey, I keep my head down But I keep on swinging" -I believe he is saying that He is not sure about the truth. He doesn't know if god or what the people at his church or his family tells him is true. However, he still complies or goes on with the same lifestyle.
That is my view of the meaning of this song.
@elvis10000 none of them is atheist though...<br /> and they have a devout Christian so I don't think that's the case at all!
@elvis10000 Ha, "Alex give me something an atheist would say"<br /> <br /> You clearly look for any reason to be against our Lord and Savior. I, myself, will keep on swinging........
