Burning like a open nerve
I'm running like a dog
on linoleum
I don't know how come
but the effect of you on me is too much
Bro, it's like you speak in code
I'm only three months sober
I swear I'm so close
to buying a bottle of SoCo
a pack of smokes and saying fuck it all
'cause I tried to forgive you
for the shit you put me through
but it's just the hardest thing to do
so I guess it's goodbye brother
goodbye rock and roll
guess it's goodbye to the only life I know
it's a shame you couldn't just say you were hurting
I'll see you on the other side of the curtain
turning like a broken wheel
my own Achilles heel
tell me how does it feel
to have a normal day
despite all my rage
I'm just a rat in a cage
thoughts, they come and crowd my mind
and they're never kind
it happens all the time, it happens all the time
I'm running out of time, I'm running out of time
'cause I tried to forgive you
for the shit you put me through
but it's just the hardest thing to do
so I guess it's goodbye brother
goodbye rock and roll
guess it's goodbye to the only life I know
it's a shame you couldn't just say you were hurting
I'll see you on the other side of the curtain
and now the spotlight shines upon you all alone
cuts a circle 'round your velvet throne
you take in the applause and give a shallow bow
I'm watching in the rafters now
and you’re striking that pose as they're throwing the roses
lifting up your arms like the statue of Moses
one door opens another one closes
I'm watching in the rafters now
so I guess it's goodbye brother
goodbye rock and roll
guess it's goodbye to the only life I know
it's a shame you couldn't just say you were hurting
I'll see you on the other side of the curtain
so I guess it's goodbye brother

I was just at the Songs & Stories tour last night (Art Alexakis, Chris Collingwood, Max Collins, and John Wozniak) and Max said that this song was about him being newly sober and weighing whether or not he could continue on touring and being around alcohol. Amazing tour, amazing artists.
@xoheatherina It's amazing that I just came to look for this and you answered so recently with some word of mouth answers. Thank you so much :) I hope to see these guys in concert one day!

@ralph10145 glad that I had the information that answered your question. I hope you get to see them too because it was one of the most amazing sets I've ever been to...even better that it was such an intimate, interactive venue.

In the first verse, Max sings, "Bro, it's like you speak in code."
Alright - well first of all, these lyrics are not correct.
Bro, it's like you're speaking code I'm only three months sober Swear, I'm so close to buying a bottle of SoCo A pack of smokes and saying fuck it all
What I get from this song is that this is probably a song that came after the band broke up. The verses sound like they're written in an attempt to mimic the feeling of anxiety - which you'd get thinking of someone you walked away from, or especially someone you've just seen out in the world after you've walked away. Someone you wish to make up with but they're not having it. Watching them from afar.
"Goodbye, Brother, goodbye, Rock and Roll" saying goodbye to this person is saying goodbye to music. "I'll see you on the other side of the curtain" nice word play - I won't see you on stage anymore, but I'll see you out there where all the other people who populate the world hang out.
The bridge, I imagine, is actually the result of following this person out and watching them live their new life and watching from a distance A) because you don't want them to see you but also because B) you're masochistically feeding your hatred of the situation. Possibly, with the anger in the tone of this song, a little jealousy or just I hate that you want to go out and live the life we used to live without me.
I dig this song. I would like to hear from Max what it's actually about, though - it's definitely missing an old friend.
I agree with ZoERae - this is about the band breaking up a few years ago. However, I think there is specific story behind it. I think it is about Max having to watch as Jon played on ("one door closes, another one opens") with Monsters Are Waiting. The song I think suggests that Jon quit the band.
I thought it was interesting when Jon chose to play in MOW, a rather indie band - which I thought was great, by the way. I think he was rebelling against having played in a pop band. I think guys in pop-rock bands often feel slighted and want to try more "serious" music. Eventually though, he came back to Eve 6. Good pop music is infectious.
