What I get from this song is that this is probably a song that came after the band broke up. The verses sound like they're written in an attempt to mimic the feeling of anxiety - which you'd get thinking of someone you walked away from, or especially someone you've just seen out in the world after you've walked away. Someone you wish to make up with but they're not having it. Watching them from afar.
"Goodbye, Brother, goodbye, Rock and Roll" saying goodbye to this person is saying goodbye to music. "I'll see you on the other side of the curtain" nice word play - I won't see you on stage anymore, but I'll see you out there where all the other people who populate the world hang out.
The bridge, I imagine, is actually the result of following this person out and watching them live their new life and watching from a distance A) because you don't want them to see you but also because B) you're masochistically feeding your hatred of the situation.
