he's basically saying "i dont feel like putting any effort into this relationship", i think. becuz obviously a good bf/gf would TRY not to fuck with your mind, instead of try NOT to try. but, he is going to be honest with the person and not try to be anything he's not "promise not to lie..."

This song doesn't really have to be about romantic/sexual relationships at all, although it can. But you know, the video is about people turning away from people who hold artificial authority over themselves.
I've always seen this song in a very "punk" themed way. The realization that other people basically have only the power over you that you give them.
He wants to go big, and he already put his chips all in (in whatever it is, he doesn't specify). He is tired of his fake relationships with all kinds of people: bosses, girls, parents, whatever it is. He's tired of it. He's going to be himself and go get what he wants. He promises to fuck with people's minds, but he has the balls to be honest to their faces when need be. He's still stuck in this town, he can't really leave, but he's suddenly satisfied because he has overcome his own submissiveness and now is pursuing his own dreams.
I don't think it's completely a jerk song. It can be taken like that, but it can also be taken other ways. However, from the lines

i think hes sorta tired of making promises to everyone so hes making some promises that arent that hard to keep... i think its also about just being human and having thoughts about everything and not really knowing what to do with them...

Doesn't Eve 6 just rock your sox off? I know my sox were off the first time I heard Inside Out, and they've backed it up with two wonderful CDs. I was a bit disappointed by Here's To The Night - it's so mainstream, so non-Eve 6, but still pretty dern good, until it got overplayed on the radio. THE RADIO STILL SUX.

this song is more about two people going two different places in their lives and neither of them know if it will really work... and yea i agree with semicharmed girl... i ranted about that on the heres to the nights board haha
