Must have been a perfect disaster
Perfect
And it seemed so effortless, remember?
Like that time you told me, oh man you told me
That the stars came down for just you and me

And the comets that we see are the limit to everything
And it never changes yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Like the glass on the pavement
All the time all day
All the sand in our glass
All the things that we say
All the things that we--

And everywhere comets flare [glare?]
(A, E.... C.. F)
And everywhere comets flare
(A, E.... C.. F)

And the seasons fly across the window
And the stars and sky above the sea
Not indifference, nor a sense of bliss
Just the wide wide open yeah yeah yeah

I can feel the, uh--the weight of your shoulders on mine
With all the world and time and everything
But I'll lay low 'til you say so
It’s the only way; it’s the only way

But when it burns your fingers it slows you down
I'll be the comet that brings you back around
I'll be the comet that crashes to the ground
I'll be the comet, it crashes d-d-d-d-d-d-down

And everywhere comets flare
(A, E.... C.. F)
And everywhere comets flare
(A, E.... C.. F)
And everywhere comets flare
And everywhere comets flare

And everywhere comets flare!
As the seasons fly above the sea
And everywhere comets flare!
And the stars and sky above the sea
And it mocks my love
And it makes me itch
And the seasons fly above the sea
Not indifference, nor a sense of bliss
Just the wide wide open yeah yeah yeah

    Seriously?

    SERIOUSLY?

I have never heard of lyrics not being able to be displayed.. How does that even make sense? Someone should re post because this is horse sh*t.

Google comes up with plenty of entries, when you search for "hazel comet lyrics"--however, almost none of them actually have lyrics for that song (maybe one or two others, if any)--or if you do find lyrics, they're so-o-o awful...

I gave it a shot. Even if I couldn't figure out everything, I imagined I couldn't possibly do worse.

"And everywhere, comets [f/g]lare"--presumably, that's a key line. Wish I could offer something better than intuition. Or maybe it's just: I've come to hear it that way in my head...so, even if Jody Bleyle were obviously singing "glare," I wouldn't be able to hear it that way.

But the big puzzler--for me--was a different line (sung by the other vocalist, Pete Krebs). It's the one which I decided sounded more-or-less like: "And the comets that we see are the limit to everything"

At first, I wasn't sure of any words except "comet[s]" and "everything."

Then I listened to the passage, oh...at least 50 times: through high—end headphones & a dedicated headphone amp (a combination I've found superb for retrieving detail from difficult passages). Scrawling possible words in a notebook, as I kept repeating it on my CD player.

Before these efforts, I couldn't offer a guess.

But...am I confident this one is correct? Hmmm. uh, hm.

Another possibility I considered: "And the comets are the seed to be living through everything" ...though this seems even less likely.

The few of us who remember Hazel: all are welcome to argue, offer better guesses, etc.

Ah, Pete singing [what I assume are] the names of the chords, underneath the chorus...surprisingly catchy.

Hazel rocks they need more songs on here, thanks for posting this. I think you are really close on the lyrics.

I have always heard "And everywhere the comets there" but the more I listen to it the more I question what Jody is saying.

I also hear Pete say "And the comets that we see are the limit to everything" that sounds right on to me.

    I have always assumed A, E, C, F, A, E, C, F, A, E, C, F, A, E, C, F were the chords that he was playing but I am not a musician and I have no idea what the chords are.

As for the meaning of the song I think Comet like most Hazel songs is pretty ambiguous. The comets seem to be symbolic of something, maybe a bad relationship. I get that vibe from..

"Must have been a perfect disaster Perfect And it seemed so effortless, remember? Like that time you told me, oh man you told me That the stars came down for just you and me"

    and

"I can feel the, uh--the weight of your shoulders on mine With all the world and time and everything But I'll lay low 'til you say so"

The only way to find out the meaning of any song is to ask the artist but I hope to see how others interpret this song.

"we are not authorized to display these lyrics"--huh??

the band is defunct. Sub Pop very unlikely to give a shit. a site like this can hardly be overly fussy about copy[wrong] anyhow. so...what gives?

well, I found a backup after all.

however I'm reluctant to repost, as it seems likely:

    a) they'll just get deleted again

    b) and possibly, my having done so (in spite of the nasty-sounding text at the top) will be regarded as having broken some sort of rule. not that SongMeanings has any rules, or if so I'm not aware of them.

it's happening more and more; I've seen other songs' lyrics disappear too. at this rate the site's raison d'etre may become moot.

also it's rather ridiculous to delete the lyrics, yet retain comments which quote liberally from those lyrics.

hmm, and I see the +/- buttons on Defcon's comment have been removed.

is that accidental? or are we to be forbidden (also) from giving a "thumbs up" to anyone who criticizes these changes to the site?

the equine feces is beginning to stink, and pile up.

well. no "rules" per se, but there are "Terms and Conditions". one of which is:

"It is also imperative that you obey the law when posting.

if the laws in question include copyright law, then again: what makes one song's lyrics more "forbidden" to be posted than another's? huge sellers like Lady Gaga are fair game, but a little-known, no-longer-existing band on an indie label is verboten?

    Whiskey Tango Foxtrot??

Then, we get to the more-relevant section of the Terms and Conditions:

" Copyright All lyrics are copyrighted by their respective owners. SongMeanings does not claim ownership to any lyrics, nor do we vouch for their authenticity. Essentially, all lyrics posted are from the submitter interpreting the song's lyrics and are by no way accurate and legit. We only display them for research purposes."

wow, great credibility. kinda like when quack "alternative health remedies" are labelled "food additives" and include the disclaimer, "not intended to diagnose or treat any disease."

is it sensible to spend another second posting any of our "research" to this site? knowing all of it could disappear at any time: with no warning, nor meaningful explanation.

hm. any subsequent appendations to my previous "test" post have become moot. assuming present circumstances persist.

no further comment at this time.

then again, one could consider this an implicit challenge: that is, to determine what constitutes "fair use."

in my opinion, based on personal research (involving the use of a stereo--and my ears), the lyrics of a particular yet unnamed song begin as follows:

Must have been a perfect disaster Perfect And it seemed so effortless, remember? Like that time you told me, oh man you told me That the stars came down for just you and me

And the comets that we see are the limit to everything And it never changes yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah Like the glass on the pavement All the time all day All the sand in our glass All the things that we say All the things that we–

But if anyone else believes otherwise? or would like to append their own further research into this matter? ...please, be my guest.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
