In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
You come like you know something I don't
I could give in, you should know I won't
You talk like you've got nothing to say
It stabs me in the back
When you act that way
It's not politics, it's child's play
You've got to grow up
And out of these games
It's not politics, it's child's play
It's a long way down
And I'm not going round again
You should know
Get up and go if you don't know by now
Don't come like you know something I don't
I could give in, don't you know I won't
Don't talk if you've got nothing to say
It stabs me in the back when you act that way
It's not politics, it's child's play
You've got to grow up
And out of these games
It's not politics, it's child's play
It's a long way down
And I'm not going round again
You should know I'm not going down with you
I never thought I'd see you sink so low
Get up and go if you haven't go it in you
Get up and go now, go go go!
You should know by now
No one likes to be let down
You should know by now
I don't want to be dragged down
Cos I don't drag you down
So why'd you drag me down?
This is getting me down
You should know by now
I've got to go
Cos you're dragging me down
I could give in, you should know I won't
You talk like you've got nothing to say
It stabs me in the back
When you act that way
It's not politics, it's child's play
You've got to grow up
And out of these games
It's not politics, it's child's play
It's a long way down
And I'm not going round again
You should know
Get up and go if you don't know by now
Don't come like you know something I don't
I could give in, don't you know I won't
Don't talk if you've got nothing to say
It stabs me in the back when you act that way
It's not politics, it's child's play
You've got to grow up
And out of these games
It's not politics, it's child's play
It's a long way down
And I'm not going round again
You should know I'm not going down with you
I never thought I'd see you sink so low
Get up and go if you haven't go it in you
Get up and go now, go go go!
You should know by now
No one likes to be let down
You should know by now
I don't want to be dragged down
Cos I don't drag you down
So why'd you drag me down?
This is getting me down
You should know by now
I've got to go
Cos you're dragging me down

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
