Cigarettes in the Theatre Lyrics

It starts in the theatre
A night of encounters
If I hadn't been there
If not for a cigarette

And you could see it change
Look past the blinding light
Look past the blinding light
We'll just keep taking on
Tell me your favourite things
Tell me your favourite things

Difference in opinion was never an issue
Collect all your questions
'Cause this time we've all night

And you could see it change
Look past the blinding light
Look past the blinding light
We'll just keep taking on
Tell me your favourite things
Tell me your favourite things

It's about the night the lead singer met his ex girlfriend

I love how he fastens when he says: Look past the blinding lights :) It sounds so funny. This whole song's got a joyful up-tempo :) ... and I'm going to see them live. HA! :D

I think it's perhaps about this guy that meets a girl and wants to get to know her.

They are pure quality live! And they seem like really nice guys as well I met them all after the gig. I agree with you say it fits perfectly.

It's when the lead singer (Alex Trimble) met his girl friend at a theatre. Since Alex is an avid smoker he went out for a smoke and met this lovely girl and they started talking and things went on from there, although they are no longer together... they broke up last year... this song was written when he met her.

I don't know if it's just me or what he's really saying is:

And you could see it change Look past the blinding light we've past the bonding line Just keep taking on Tell me your favourite things

I guess I just like it better that way... Sounds way more romantic (:

this is what i hear exactly:

And you could see it change Look past the blinding light We’ve past the bonding line We’ll just keep taking on Tell me your favourite things Tell me your favourite things

I'm not sure if it is "blinding lights" either, since he's pretty much mumbling

I don't think he is saying, "look past the blinding lights," He's saying, "The past running by"

That's what I've always heard and it makes sense
