Fear Lyrics

This is why i do this shit.
I think they call this, uhm, venting.

Yea
Look
Uhh.

This is me.
Still the same.
They want the hits.
I play the game.
No auto tune, but you can feel the pain.
It all comes spilling out like i hit a vein.
Watt up lil bra.
Watt up slum ville.
I hope you know that y'all the reason i have fun still.
The fans thinking that we all signed for one meal.
Equal opportunities rapping, that shit is unreal.
That ain't how it works.
That ain't that how it goes.
And i been getting high to balance out the lows.
And i could use a writer to balance my flows.
But i never share my thoughts,
This is all a nigga knows.
And every time i try, it opens up my eyes.
These verses are a chance to be remembered and reprised.
And i would be performing just as long as i'm alive.
So every word i utter will be mine.

Chorus:

Don't believe the lies.
Look me in my eyes.
Please don't be scared of me.
Please don't be scared of me.
I remember you.
This feeling isn't new.
So please don't be scared of me.
Please don't be scared of me.

(Dont Take This The Wrong Way But ugh)
I never cried when pac died.
But i probably will when hov does.
And if my tears hold value, then i would drop one for every single thing he showed us.
And i'll be standing in a puddle.
I stay away from niggas that could land me in some trouble.
And i'ma keep it honest.
I am so tired of being subtle.
It's just me, forty, o, and nich standing in a huddle.
Staring at the members of my team.
Who get questioned about they profit from this from million dollar scheme.
Just know that am in debt for you defending all our dreams.
I hope you tell your family this shit aint what it seems.
But y'all the reason for a lot of my devotion.
You know i spend money because spending time is hopeless.
And know i pop bottles cuz i bottle my emotions.
At least i put it all in the open.

Chorus:

Don't believe the lies.
Look me in my eyes.
Please don't be scared of me.
Please don't be scared of me.
I remember you.
This feeling isn't new.
So please don't be scared of me.
Please don't be scared of me.
Oh oh oh oh oh uhh.

Look.
Fuck all y'all.
We ignore feelins here.
Premature millionaires.
Welcome to my realest year.
Yeah.
I swear that we're making a killin here.
I should be on top of the world just chillen here.
Uh.
But it's funny having fans.
Who find you before anybody ever has the chance, and build you up so you could be the biggest in the game.
And realize when you ain't there, sometimes the shit don't feel the same.
Yeah.
And plus things are just so real at home
People think i've changed just as my appilla's grown
And now security follow me everywhere so i'm never actually am alone, i just always feel alone.
I think i'm scared of what the future holds.
I was wishing for some things and now am used to those.
Every girl i meet thinks i'm fucking groupie hoes.
The honesty of my music has left me too exposed.
All my old friends think i got a new crowd.
And people seem to notice every time i do smile.
I guess that mean they come few and far between.
Even though am living out what you would call the dream.
Yeah.
And my uncle aint even messaging me.
And him missing in my life is kind of messing with me.
I hope this isn't one of those forever things.
It's funny how money can change everything.

Chorus:
Don't believe the lies.
Look me in my eyes.
Please don't be scared of me.
Please don't be scared of me.
I remember you.
This feeling isn't new.
So please don't be scared of me.
Please don't be scared of me.
Oh oh oh oh oh uhh.

In this song Drake is basicly letting you inside his head. To him some of the things that happened didnt turn out - How he expected. First stanza is just him addressing a few things. Like him doing rapping because he loves it not just because it pays the bills. In this stanza he first starts showing like this fame has left him kinda vulnerable - 'No autotune but you can feel the pain.' Some things have happened that maybe he wishes never did. 'It all come spilling out like I hit a vein.' He cant hold on to some of these thoughts anymore, Its becoming to much for him to carry - As if he has to get it all out so he can go on with his life. And next stanza (After chorus) 'Staring at the members of my team who get questioned about they profit from this million dollar scheme.' People on the outside (Maybe their family and friends) Want to know like what are you getting out of helping him reach his dreams.? Are you going to get a cut, Whats going to pay your bills.? And drakes just letting them know hes thankful for them. Third stanza (Not including chorus) 'But it's funny having fans. Who find you before anybody ever has the chance, and build you up so you could be the biggest in the game. And realize when you there, sometimes the shit don't feel the same.' Drake's talked about this on his blog about his fans thats messaged him saying that they liked him before the fame but now they dont feel it anymore && Obviously it hurt him in a way. And he talks about at home how his friends just thinks he got a new crowd because hes all famous now. And how his dreams has come true but he just imagined himself being alot more happier - Its just that certain things changed that he wished never did.

Song Meaning

I love that description!

But i wanna add that Drake also tries to show the amount of fear he has if people around him keep perceiving everything they do about him.

thats why i admire him so much. he doesnt deny his sensitivity && that to me, is richer than being rich <3

this is beautiful. the instrumentals make it perfect.

I agree, and the lyrics talking about real shit..not just sex, drugs, and money..its the real kind of rap in my opinion. the part that gets me is "I never cried when pac died. But i probably will when hov does. And if my tears hold value, then i would drop one for every single thing he showed us, and i'll be standing in a puddle." just really lets you get that hes another human, which you don't get with many rappers. It's really respectable.

i actually really like the fact that he is just saying it how it is, theres no metaphors or analogies just the plain truth of how hes feeling, it makes it really easy to follow and therefore understand what hes going through. real refreshing

"I never cried when pac died. But i probably will when hov does. And if my tears hold value, then i would drop one for every single thing he showed us. And i'll be standing in a puddle."

This defines why Drake has some messed up priorities.

love the way he sings the chorus.. not that great of a singer but i like his deep tone. "the honesty of my music has left me too exposed..", explains that now his personal life is conflicting with the persona he has put on for the world. even though he seems to be doing the same thing most up and comming rappers do, his talk of being misunderstood and trying to find his niche is relatable. not as well as eminem did it though.
