Waidmanns Heil Lyrics

Ich bin in Hitze schon seit Tagen,
so werd ich mir ein Kahlwild jagen
und bis zum Morgen sitz ich an
damit ich Blattschuss geben kann,

Auf dem Lande,
auf dem Meer lauert das Verderben;
die Kreatur muss sterben!

Sterben

Ein Schmaltier auf die Läufe kommt,
hat sich im hohen Ried gesonnt;
Macht gute Fährte tief im Tann;
der Spiegel glänzt ich backe an;
der Wedel zuckt wie Fingeraal,
die Flinte springt vom Futteral
(Weidmanns...manns...manns...manns Heil!)
Ich fege mir den Bast vom Horn
und geb’ ihr ein gestrichenes Korn.

(Weidmanns...manns...manns...manns Heil!)

Auf dem Lande,
auf dem Meer lauert das Verderben;
die Kreatur muss sterben!

(Weidmanns...manns...manns...manns Heil!)

Sterben

(Weidmanns...manns...manns...manns Heil!)

Sie spürt die Mündungsenergie,
feiner Schweiß tropft auf das Knie.
Auf dem Lande,
auf dem Meer
lauert das Verderben;
die Kreatur muss sterben!

(Weidmanns...manns...manns...manns Heil!)

Sterben

(Weidmanns...manns...manns...manns Heil!)

Auf dem Lande,
auf dem Meer lauert das Verderben...

(Weidmanns...manns...manns...manns Heil!)

Auf dem Lande,
auf dem Meer...

(Weidmanns...manns...manns...manns Heil!)

I love this song. It is hilarious.

The hunter is a guy, the female deer is a woman. In basic terms the guy goes out searching for a girl to get laid. It takes him all night to find a girl, but he finally gets one. At the end, he pulls out and blows his load on her chest (blattschuss, but not a shot that kills her).

Its off an album that is mostly perverted songs. You gotta love these guy's humor.

I think is a metaphor for a rapist's sexual desire

My Interpretation

Weidmann is an older german word meaning hunter ausweiden means to thin out, they thin out the forest. The song is basically about a hunters desire to kill an animal. He says he has been waiting for days and will wait until morning because he wants to give blattschuss ( a perfect shot into the chest area, can also mean defeating someone severely) to a Kahlwild (hunterterm deer-Artiodactyla family), then he sees a schmalwild (hunterterm for female or juvenile deer) comin out of the grass where it sunbathed, it moves quickly through the pine forest, the mirror shines? and he puts the rifle to his shoulder, the deers tail moves quickly, the rifle comes out of the case. I dust bast (fuzzy skin that grows on antlers) off and give her a shot that doesnt kill her. the refrain means on land and on sea the danger lurks everywhere, the creature must die. She feels the velocity, sweat drips on the knee.

I think they are sort of making fun of how sick minded hunters are, but the metaphor relating to a rapist makes sense.

The horns you hear are pretty typical in european hunting, its used to signal other hunters. Weidmanns heil can be summed up as Hunters Joy

A "mirror" is the white backside of a deer.

Most of the following is wrong, I will correct it:

  1. "Weidmann is an older german word meaning hunter" The correct spelling is "Waidmann", not "Weidmann"

  2. "ausweiden means to thin out, they thin out the forest." No. Ausweiden means to take out the guts an organs of an animal that has been shot by a huntsman.

  3. "The song is basically about a hunters desire to kill an animal." This is just superficially so. The whole lyrics have a symbolic/allegoric/metaphorical meaning. The entire song is about a man who is looking for a young woman/girl to have sex with. He is in urgent need of this because of his current hormonic state.

  4. " ... and give her a shot that doesnt kill her." No. A "blattschuss" is a shot that goes through the shoulder blade and directly hits the heart of the deer and therefore kills it immediately. A "blattschuss" is the perfect shot of a huntsman, because it kills immediately and the deer does not have to suffer.

  5. "I think they are sort of making fun of how sick minded hunters are, but the metaphor relating to a rapist makes sense."

No this is not necessarily about a rapist. The huntsman-deer allegory has been t h e symbol of the game of love for more than a thousand years and therefore is to be found in various literary works.

"She feels the velocity, sweat drips on the knee."

Nope. The German word "Schweiß" normally means "sweat". But here it doesn't. In German hunters' language "Schweiß" means "BLOOD".

This has an ambiguous meaning:

  1. Literally it means the blood dripping/spraying from the deer's wound. The shot ("Blattschuss") went through the shoulder blade, therefore the blood trickles on one of the deer's knees, just below the wound.

  2. Metaphorically it very probably means the blood which drips from the girl's/young woman's vagina, because of having sex for the first time. The "Schmalwild" is a young deer and stands for the young woman/girl who most probably was still a virgin. Another possible meaning could be that the blood comes out of the vagina, because the female person is in her menstruation. But this is not quite likely, because it is pointed out that the deer is very young ("Schmalwild")

I like the hunting for a young woman idea very much but there are some things that bothers me.

If the song is about hunting for women, then what is Waidmanns Heil. I am also wondering about the beast which much die but I guess it is his lust that he wants to kill. Making his lust the beast.

Song Meaning

'Waidmanns Heil!' is a german hunter's greeting. Hunters normally said it when they went hunting and wished each other the best of luck. Another common term is 'auf Frauenjagdt gehen' which literally means to go hunting for women, which supports the general idea of this song being about sex. (I am german so... you'll know what I want to say from the other rammstein lyrics xD)

As some have pointed out there are many double meanings with simple words that mean different things in German hunting language. Most have been covered, but I'll just point them all out:

Kahlwild = Female deer Blattschuß = perfect shot (directly to the heart) Schmalwild = young female deer Mirror = the behind of a female deer, so pretty much the ass Schweiß = blood

I think the interpretation of a man going out to find a girl is fitting, this is not necessarily rape.
