It's raining today
The blinds are shut, it's always the same
I tried all the games that they play
But they made me insane
Life on TV
It's random, it means nothing to me
I'm writing down what I cannot see
Wanna wake up in a dream
Whoa, whoa
They're telling me it's beautiful
I believe them but will I ever know
The world behind my wall?
Whoa, whoa

The sun will shine like never before
One day I will be ready to go
See the world behind my wall
Trains in the sky
Are traveling through fragments of time
They're taking me to parts of my mind
That no one can find
I'm ready to fall
I'm ready to crawl on my knees to know it all
I'm ready to heal, I'm ready to feel
Whoa, whoa
They're telling me it's beautiful
I believe them but will I ever know
The world behind my wall?
Whoa, whoa

The sun will shine like never before
One day I will be ready to go
See the world behind my wall
See the world behind my wall
See the world behind my wall
See the world behind my wall
I'm ready to fall
I'm ready to crawl on my knees to know it all
I'm ready to heal, I'm ready to feel
Take me there
(Whoa, whoa)
Take me there
Take me there
Whoa, whoa
They're telling me it's beautiful
I believe them but will I ever know
The world behind my wall?

I interpret this song as if it's about having a feeling of not being present in reality. You feel distant from everything and everybody, walking around in your own world. You're longing to "come back" to the beautiful real world behind the "wall" inside of your head. You're longing to feel and sense everything around you again. But that's just my interpretion of the song, probably because this is what I'm dealing with right now. The song could also be about being tired of the everyday or it could be about sorrow after death or a break-up.

I think this song is about the life he is living now and the life that he wishes he had. He says "Life on TV it's random, it means nothing to me" to me I think that means that things that keep other people happy just seem fake and meaningless to him.

The chorus is possibly about love. I think that in a way he has put up a wall because he doesn't wan't to love somone because then they would be pulled into the hard life that he lives. He would rather put up a wall to stop them getting in and save them the hurt and trouble of a rockstars life (lately he has admited that some times he fears for his life, if he loved a person he wouldn't want to bring them into that). But then others are say how amazing it is on the other side of the wall and how the sun shines more brightly.

"They're taking me to parts of my mind that no one can find" Looking back to a time when he had or could have had love and realising that love is all he wants.

"I'm ready to fall. I'm ready to crawl on my kness to know it all. I'm ready to heal. I'm ready to feel." He is kind of giving in to it and is ready to let somebody throught his wall.

But by ending the song with "They're telling me it's beautiful. I believe them, but will I ever know the world behind my wall." I think that hs is admitting to himself that he may never let down the world to allow others in and that they may not be a reason to do this as he may not find that right girl.

    Song Meaning

I agree with Turenz, it's a song about wanting to come back and face reality. If you think about it, life can be so tough, so downing that at times we build walls of comfort around us. People always tell us how wonderful the rest of the world is, and we want to go see it, to experience it. I believe this song expresses the want to expand what our own personal 'world' is and see the rest of the great big world out there, but we aren't quite ready. I also believe that the 'take me there' lyrics are about how other people or a certain person can get us outside our walls. To help us see the great world for what it's for.

    My Interpretation

I always assumed the Wall represents the barrier which prevents them from being 'normal' like you and I And that he fears he will never be normal.

It's raining today The blinds are shut, it's always the same I tried all the games that they play But they made me insane

Maybe he's talking about the rest of the band and how he feels differently?

Life on TV It's random, it means nothing to me (Fake smiles?) I'm writing down what I cannot see Wanna wake up in a dream

He writes down the lyrics but he can't see what they mean..? Just my interpretation (Sucks, I know. :P)

I'd also like to offer the point of view that the subject is trapped outside of himself, not necessarily shutting out the world with a metaphorical wall... for instance:

The sun will shine like never before. One day I will be ready to go see the world behind my wall.

This sounds like there's a part of himself that he doesn't understand, and he feels that one day he will find it and come to terms with it. On the other hand, there is some flip-flopping between the verse and chorus, and this might be a translation thing. However, it could make sense that if this supposition was true, then the subject might have to take other people's observation that he is beautiful on the inside for face value. Just saying. Good posts, you guys!

This song makes me think more of the point of view from someone who is dealing with depression. The first section of the song is basically talking about how they feel and that they feel everything has no point and is useless. People are telling them about how everything is beautiful and this person cannot see past their own pain and it hurts them that they can't see things the way others do. They want to just buckle under and see the things differently but they cant stop thought their train of thought and with it being so negatively influenced by their depression. This person knows one day they will feel better about everything but their healing is taking too long and they dont want to feel like theyre trapped behind a wall of anguish forever.

I believe this could be a meaning for this song because I am going through this right now due to separating from my wife. It is hard to see what other people see when you are like this.

    Song Meaning

I interpret this song as being about someone who has closed them selfs off from the rest of the world. I don't know why but, it seems like the person just got sick of the closed off world they were living in and they want to brake down the wall that they've put up to keep the real world out. So the person just says they're down sitting behind this wall and that they want to see and feel the real world that is behind their wall.

This song is about life as rock stars. It's interesting b/c these guys have been in the rock world/celebrity life for so long, that they may never be able to actually experience the World they're singing about
    Really cool song

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
