I got a chill and I wanted to say it was you
Be still because what I'm about to say is the truth
Unless we stretch until the point in nearly breaking in two
Will never find our weakness coming on glue

A cracked sculpture I wanted to say it was you
Being vultures is why I feel the way I do
I fell in love and I wanted to say it was you
I wanted to say it was you

If you believe me
We can stand the test of time like no one else
If you believe me
It means you have to disbelieve yourself

A sudden wind and I wanted to say it was you
I never been so confused about who knows the truth
It began when I wanted to say it was you
'Cause I swore you had your head in this too

If you believe me
We can stand the test of time like no one else
If you believe me
You know it means you have to disbelieve yourself
If you believe me

Because I'm here wondering what could you be thinking
Though I know you that you're thinking I wonder that all the time
I can still invade your thoughts when you're not with me
Yet don't mind me I'm just a pin side on your mind
Yeah don't mind me I know you're wondering all the time

If you believe me
We can stand the test of time like no one else
If you believe me
It means you have to disbelieve yourself
If you believe me

Amazing... brilliant... best song off the new CD. I would have put this as the first single.

As far as the meaning goes... I feel it's about Matty T's breakup with his fiance. She broke up with him after she found out some things that "she just couldn't handle". Some people said that Matt cheated on her... but who knows.

I think the song is talking about after the breakout. He's still thinking about her all the time. "I felt a chill and and i wanted to say it was you." Then it moves on about him wondering what she is thinking about him. If she still likes him. He knows that he is still on her mind. The chorus is saying to believe him, whether it's about him truly loving her or about cheating on her or doing something else "she just couldn't handle."

Let me know what you guys think! Amazing song though.

Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

The Night We Met

This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
