End Transmission Lyrics

Pull the top down, use your knees to drive
I'll make it worth your while, just let me taste the sky
You pressed your mouth on mine and fed me a star
And said, "we never can truly know who we are."
Know who we are

With the lights out and the night inside
The broken radio was playing suicide
I felt myself falling
I confessed to you, "I saw a body."
You said you'd seen a few

This night has only just begun
If there's discretion that you've not abandoned, now's the time.
We'll burn at best the morning sun
Go grab your bag, I'll bring the gun.
The gun

Keep the top down, use your knees to drive
I'll hide these words, they're only yours to find
You pressed your mouth on mine and said, "they call us stars."
Then said, "we never can truly know who we are."

This night has only just begun
If there's discretion that you've not abandoned, now's the time.
We'll burn at best the morning sun
Go grab your bag, i'll bring the gun.
The gun

Everything was burning bright.
Everyone was frightened.
You said, "stay strong."
Everybody knowing that what we'd invited still remains when we're gone

This night has only just begun
If there's discretion that you've not abondoned, now's the time.
We'll burn at best the morning sun
Go grab your bag, I'll bring the gun,
Oh

This night has only just begun
If there's discretion that you've not abandoned, now's the time.
We'll burn at best the morning sun
Go grab your bag, I'll bring the gun.
The gun
I'll bring the gun
Oh...

anyone else feel like some of their albums are different parts of the same story? like, one big story?

everybody's noticing all of these references to other songs, albums, and booklets and such. i just can't help but think that there's a story to be told.

My Opinion

A lot of times, they weave a story into their CDs. The problem is that the songs aren't in the order of the story, which means you have to sit there and try to figure it out yourself.

One of my favorites on the album, it's just so ... sexy?

This song, to me, is about falling in love, and making that final move to admit it to each other, hence the "if there's discretion that you've not abandoned, now's the time."

It also seems very intimate, "you pressed you mouth on mine", "I'll hide these words, they're only yours to find" and "I'll make it worth your while, just let me taste the sky", like lovers just being with one another, trying to make the other as happy as they can.

The line "Go grab your bag, I'll bring the gun," gives the song a whole other level of meaning, it makes me think of Romeo and Juliet to some extent (taking this from the Baz Luhrmann version), this is loosely of supported in the stanza: "The broken radio was playing suicide i felt myself falling i confessed to you, "i saw a body." you said you'd seen a few." this is similar to the story of Romeo and Juliet, they both commit suicide. Romeo has seen the body of Tybalt, and Juliet has seen a few (cousins, Tybalt). The notion of Romeo and Juliet is further supported in the notion of 'stars' that was introduced by the person opposite the persona, the thought of 'star crossed lover's' and being immortalised for their love is brought to mind by this.

This song is just so awesome, there are so many possible readings that could be applied to this song... it's just how you look at it C:

It IS sexy, Ahamkara, it really is. Sexy in a really dark way. The verses with that killer bassline...ugh! Amazing.

It's actually "the broken radio was playing Suicide." As in, the band called Suicide...that's not a reference to literal suicide.

It might be 'the broken radio was playing suicide'. In the lyrics booklet with the deluxe cd it's not capitalised. Either way, a dark and gorgeous song. I agree with the impression that it is sexy.

Well, I reckon this is about a pair of criminals who are going to do one last crime (possibly a robbery or murder)

"pull the top down, use your knees to drive i'll make it worth your while, just let me taste the sky you pressed your mouth on mine and fed me a star and you said, "we never can truly know who we are." know who we are"

This could be them driving there, and by pulling the top down and using his knees to drive, it would allow one of them to use their hands to do something while they drive (maybe cover them). "You pressed your mouth on mine and fed me a star" This could be a kiss, where they giove each other one last taste, or, although unlikely, a drug. By saying that they "Never know who we are" could be that they are petty criminals, and if they go down they wouldn't never be remembered.

"this night has only just begun if there's discretion that you've not abandoned, now's the time. we'll burn at best the morning sun go grab your bag, i'll bring the gun. the gun"

Now they talk about how they are heading there, and that they should abandon any discretion to become as effective as possible. "Go grab your bag, I'll bring the gun" is just a reference to the crime (The bag to hold cash, the gun to threaten or kill). "Burning at the morning sun" could mean that they'll be dead by the morning.

"everything was burning bright. everyone was frightened. you said, "stay strong." everybody knowing that what we'd invited still remains when we're gone"

This basically says to me that they've started a fire in a bank (because "everyone was frightened" - they could be hostages). "You said stay strong" could be the other person encouraging his/her love to not fret and worry because they are nearly finished. "everybody knowing that what we'd invited still remains when we're gone" could mean that this entire crime is to try and make them remembered in death.

I overanalyize sometimes, but I love this song so much, the guitar is great and I reckon this has been the best AFI album so far.

My Interpretation

I agree that this song could possibly be about committing a crime, because the order of songs on the album has "Beautiful Thieves" preceding "End Transmission". Which I interpret as the song of planning and contemplation, followed by a song about the rush and risk of committing the act.

Overall, Crash Love is a great album. I highly recommend it.

Also, in the booklet that came with the CD, the words were "We'll burn to best the morning's son". A reference to "Again and again they blend into one, my father the morning pushes through moonlight love" from The Art of Drowning CD. Also, this song sounds like it should be the last one on the Crash Love CD.

i agree it could be about bonnie and clyde. it definitely seems like its been inspired by certain type of roadmovies. it probably makes me think of natural born killers the most atm.

everything was burning bright. everyone was frightened. you said, "stay strong." everybody knowing that what we'd invited still remains when we're gone

i think you people are trying to make it too meaningful. the lyrics are pretty simple. its obviously about outlaws.

Cover art for End Transmission lyrics by AFI

I agree with those saying that this is simply a song about outlaws, perhaps about specific entities but definitely outlaws for sure.

I believe someone else had already mentioned how the proper lyrics include : "We'll burn to best the morning's son"

irrelevant backstory begin (skip if you are short on time) I am not all that religious, but I was in Jesus School (Roman Catholic school) from 4th - 8th grade and feel it might be worth mentioning that irrelevant backstory end

my interpretation of this is that the persons in the song either feel themselves or know that others feel that they will be condemned for whatever actions they are taking in their "full abandonment of discretion"

Because: "Morning's son", or properly (son of the dawn, son of the morning, or "morningstar") etc. are all titles to refer to Lucifer

They'll burn to best him, their crimes are at least as bad if not worse than his

@FoolishPhantom, I am surprised that you are the only one who brought this up.\r\n\r\nEverything was burning bright.\r\nEveryone was frightened.\r\nYou said, "stay strong."\r\nEverybody knowing that what we\'d invited still remains when we\'re gone\r\n\r\nWhat do you think they\'d invited that would have everyone frightened and would remain behind after these two have left? This isn\'t the first AFI song to reference Morningstar.

"I confessed to you, 'I saw a body.' You said you'd seen a few."

This was referenced in the Decemberunderground notes - "...Maybe we'll see a body. Maybe we'll see a few. I shook. Did you?"
