Papercut Lyrics
I'm okay, I'm okay
Don't keep asking me, I might disintegrate
What you want, I moved on
Everything is going well
At least that's what I tell myself
I wish I was the Tin Man
So I wouldn't have a heart to break
I'm okay, I'll survive
I only think about you half of the time
All these tears are just drops in the ocean baby
You barely even cross my mind, no no
And it doesn't hurt that much
It was only a papercut
It's only a papercut
I forget that it's there
You keep calling and calling
You don't care how it burns, how it stings
Just 'cause you can't see it bleed
Doesn't mean it don't go deep
I'm okay, I'll survive
I only think about you half of the time
All these tears are just drops in the ocean baby
You barely even cross my mind, I'll be just fine
No it doesn't hurt that much
It was only a papercut
It's only a papercut, papercut
The more I give, the less I get
Sometimes I wish that we never met
'Cause I was fine til you broke through
But don't worry baby, I'll get over you
By tomorrow, or the next day
Or the next day, or the next day
I'm ok, I'll be fine
I only think about you half the time, yeah
I'm okay, I'll survive
I only think about you half of the time
All those tears were just drops in the ocean baby
You never even cross my mind, no no
Boy you wish it'd hurt that much
It was only a papercut
It's only a papercut, papercut yeah
It's only a papercut, papercut yeah
I'm okay, I'm okay...
Don't keep asking me, I might disintegrate
What you want, I moved on

i think this song may be about how her guy found another person and it hurts her but shes saying its only a papercut so she can move on faster
i agree with bmxgirl165, i think she is in denial, and like you said she says its only a papercut to make it hurt less and so she can just try to brush it off.

One of my favourites on the album, think its kos i can relate lol.
I adore this! It's almost as if she's in denial about being heart broke or that she still loves him, but deep down she knows he does.
She compares the heart break to a paper cut to make it seem like it isn't much pain & that it doesn't mean much. To me it's clearly obvious she knows she's crushed & that it hurts.
I think she's just helping herself to move on faster:)
A favourite off the new album! xx
I agree mostly with oxconversexo, however I disagree with the interpretation of "papercut." I personally think the narrator uses the term because while it is a small, "insignificant" injury, it hurts like a bitch. It's been said that a papercut hurts more than anything else. So I think by calling this heartbreak a papercut, she's saying that it was a "small, insignificant" relationship or breakup or whatever, but it hurts more than she's willing to admit.
Also, I love the line "I forget that it's there." Taken literally, one can forget they have a papercut, but they're always reminded sometime when it's hit or pulled apart or gets something in it. But I think she intends for this line to be almost sarcastic - or maybe just defensive. As if she's thinking, "You're always on my mind and I'm not okay, but there is no chance that I am going to let you see that."
I love this song. Because in a way it helps with something I'm really hurt about. A few years back I had a friend who in essence ripped my heart out. It was pretty complicated but the lines:
"You barely even cross my mind." I always ACT as if I just remember him as a classmate not as if I remember him as the person who caused me to become very easy to upset and just destroyed me. But it isn't true. Because even after everything he still WAS the very first person in my school to be my friend. So, it still hurts. This song expresses exactly what I feel just as opposed to love it's a friendship for me.
