Sometimes I've got nothing to say.
Nothing to sing about,
That makes you lie awake.
Sometimes I've got nothing to do.
Nothing to signal out when I can't be with you.

How should I hold this girlfriend?
As tight as I ever could?
Now, why should I?
No reason why.
You wore me down worse.
Did I show?

Show me something good.
Show me something.

Sometimes I am nowhere to be found.
If it is just a bed, then why the ringing sound?
Sometimes we've got nowhere to be.
Nothing to talk about.
And nothing to agree on.

How should I hold this girlfriend?
As tight as I ever could?
Now, why should I?
No reason why.
You wore me down worse.
Did I show?

How should I hold this girlfriend?
As tight as I ever could?
Now, why should I?
No reason why.
You wore me down worse.
Did I show?

    My Interpretation

I think this song focuses on ending a relationship and of what you go through when you just think about breaking or not breaking up with a person for several reasons that, from your point of view, are affecting the relationship

Sometimes I've got nothing to say. Nothing to sing about, That makes you lie awake. -As Ferzaer said before, I interpret this as the real meaning of saying that when you're with your girl, you can't come up with something that really interests her, and even she finds your words or talks (or songs) boring. This is annoying for both.

Sometimes I've got nothing to do. Nothing to signal out when I can't be with you. -On the other hand, you find yourself bored, without anything special to do when you're not with her.

How should I hold this girlfriend? As tight as I ever could? -You ask yourself what can you do to make her feel fine. You want to hold her and be with her, trying to avoid the fact that things aren't quite right. But you still have doubts: Now, why should I? No reason why. You wore me down. Worse, did I show.

    • Why should you still doing it when she's just not responding to your love as she used to. Instead, she makes you feel down. Hence, the possible ending of the relationship. The worst part is that you haven't show her how you feel.

Show me something good- Now you're waiting her to give a sign that things can still go on, or any kind of sign about what she thinks, but somehow she doesn't do it. Maybe she isn't aware that she's doing you wrong.

Sometimes I am nowhere to be found- She doesn't seek for you when you "get lost". So most of the time you must be the one who looks for her in order to talk. If it is just a bed, then why the ringing sound?- You can't stop thinking of what to do about the situation. You try to sleep, but your thoughts keep bothering you, like if they were ringing sounds that don't let you rest.

Sometimes we've got nowhere to be. Nothing to talk about. And nothing to agree on -You and the girl don't see each other that often because you don't find the certain place or moment to do it, so you don't really talk about your situation. And if you do, there isn't an specific agreement of how to make things work

Musically and lyrically, it's an amazing song. And It certainly describes the situation I'm having right now.

I believe this song may simply be a statement that living a single life is often preferable to having a partner, despite many people having a fear of being alone or believe they are missing out on being loved. "How should I hold this girlfriend, as I tight as I ever could, Now why should I? No reason why" could refer to the conflict people feel when trying to display affection and trying not to be 'overbearing'. Also, why not holding on as tight as he can, he doesn't fear losing this 'girlfriend', he accepts whatever. He states that 'sometimes I am nowhere to be found' this could mean that being an artistic person, he lives outside of the conventions of a lot of people, in terms of jobs, children etc. He is lost in his own creative world and this conflicts with many people. Also people encourage others to try their hardest to be interesting and romantic, even if it is a facade, 'sometimes I've got nothing to say, nothing to sing about to make you lie awake" "sometimes we've got nothing to talk about, nothing to agree on" simply means that people often have ridiculous notions of how to act in a relationship, why bother pretending to be something you are not? Why try hard to fulfill another person's expectation? Finally 'show me something good, show me something' could be a rhetorical question, as in 'prove to me why I shouldn't feel like this?' Sometimes it's best to leave some relationships as nothing more than fun, not to try and live by ridiculous rules.

I hear in the live version of this song Jonas sing "How should I hold this girlfriend" pretty clearly. Also, "You want me down" instead of "You are deep down." So perhaps it "You want me down worse. Did I show?" Other than that I think it's accurate. :)

I personally think this song is about how we feel when everything is not like it use to be with our love ones, but we still try to hold on, but in the same time, we realize it’s nothing to hold on to.

Sometimes I've got nothing to say. Nothing to sing about, That makes you lie awake. Sometimes I've got nothing to do. Nothing to signal out when I can't be with you.

This line, in my opinion shows that this guy have nothing left to share with his gf because he jus doesn’t know anything interesting that he can talk about because if he talk, then the gf would be boring, so he better don’t talk at all. He also don’t know how to show that he wants everything to be over.

How should I hold this girlfriend? As tight as I ever could? Now, why should I? No reason why. You wore me down. Worse, did I show.

Show me something good. Show me something.

-he keep wondering how can he still be with the same person, but then, he think, ‘I actually don’t have to be with this girl anymore. There’s no reason to stay, she makes me sad anyway.’ Then, he beg to see something good, something hat can make him feel better.

Sometimes I am nowhere to be found. If it is just a bed, then why the ringing sound? Sometimes we've got nowhere to be. Nothing to talk about. And nothing to agree on.

He doaesnt see them both as a couple anymore in the future, they don’t have the similarities, theyre not on the same boat anymore.

Basically, that’s my take for this song. I love it so much. It may be wrong, but that’s just my opinion.

    My Interpretation

To me, this song is about moving on, emptiness and looking back at an old love.

He's in a relationship, but remembers someone he loved before. Perhaps someone who inspired him, perhaps a volatile relationship. There's longing, he feels empty. Maybe he's unable to love someone after what happened to him before, 'Nothing to signal out when I can't be with you' 'You wore me down. Worse, did I show.'

Now he's moved on into this new relationship but is struggling to 'find himself' in it. He's not with his old love and finds it hard to know what to do, how to act. This new person is just 'this girlfriend', another girl to him, not his old love. He finds it hard to feel things for this new person, it seems pointless, perhaps because of hurt he suffered in his old relationship or the longing he still feels 'How should I hold this girlfriend? As tight as I ever could? Now, why should I?

He lacks this connection with the new person, he isn't sure how he should feel, it doesn't come naturally, 'Sometimes we've got nowhere to be. Nothing to talk about. And nothing to agree on.'

He's longing for something real, something 'true', his old love, something to take him out of this apathy,

'Show me something good. Show me something.' No reason why.'

'If it is just a bed, then why the ringing sound?' This bit's kinda odd, I took it to mean that the bed he shares with his new 'love' is really 'just a bed', a piece if furniture. It's not a symbol of their relationship, their togetherness. But he's aware that this isn't right, he's hearing alarm bells.

Did anyone get this feeling from the song?

    My Interpretation

I'm thinking this person is talking directly to his heart during the chorus. The heart is something that beats repeatedly. He's using his brain over his heart instead. I've been in that relationship before where i want something good to happen, but my heart just doesn't agree with me. So there really is no use if that flame is gone. The relationship becomes annoying in a way.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
