Before I fall too fast
Kiss me quick but make it last
So I can see how badly this will hurt me when you say goodbye

Keep it sweet
Keep it slow
Let the future pass but don't let go
But tonight I could fall too soon into this beautiful moonlight

But you're so hypnotizing
You've got me laughing while I sing
You've got me smiling in my sleep
And I can see this unraveling
Your love is where I'm falling
So please don't catch me

See this heart won't settle down
Like a child running scared from a clown
I'm terrified of what you do
My stomach screams just when I look at you

Run far away so I can breathe
Even though you're far from suffocating me
But I can't get my hopes too high
'Cause every hello ends with a goodbye

But you're so hypnotizing
You've got me laughing while I sing
You've got me smiling in my sleep
And I can see this unraveling
Your love is where I'm falling
So please don't catch me

Now you see why I'm scared
I can't open up my heart without care
So here I go
It's what I feel
For the first time in my life I know it's real

But you're so hypnotizing
You've got me laughing while I sing
You've got me smiling in my sleep
And I can see this unraveling
Your love is where I'm falling
So please don't catch me

If this is love please don't break me
I'm giving up so just catch me

i dunno, i think that the change of music is intertwined with the lyrics. at first it's a soft guitar and her voice, soft and unsure and hesitant, and that's the part where she doesn't want to really fall -- "so i can see how badly this will hurt me when you say goodbye."

as the song progresses she continues to be reluctant to really fall and confesses her fear of what her significant other could do ("i'm terrified of what you do, my stomach screams just when i look at you") to hurt her, but the chorus grows stronger with added violins and she says, "but you're so hypnotizing, you've got me laughing while i sing, you've got me smiling in my sleep."

and then the bridge happens, and she finally is okay with it ("but here i go, it's what i feel"), and then we get the faster guitars and drums, which are this last huge burst of excitement and this big final acceptance. "i'm giving up, so just catch me."

i think the musical is integral to understanding the song, and that demi has done an amazing job with both. i applaud her for this song, and all the other songs on her new album. it's an amazing CD.

    Song Meaning

basically I think this song is about someone who's been scared of falling in love again. Yet she meets this amazing guy, and is quickly falling in love again, but doesn't want him to 'catch her' cos if she fully commits then there's more chance she'll get hurt again. Yet she is totally falling for the new guy and has buterflies yet her head is telling her that it won't work and they'll end up finishing ' every hello comes with a goodbye' but she keeps going back to the fact she's totally falling head over heels for him. Eventually at the end she goes for it warning the guy ' please don't break me', takes the chance and lets herself fall for him, which is why it finally ends with 'so just catch me'

Also it could be that she doesn't want to fall in love with the guy because he's going away. Mainly becvause of the lines: "How badly this will hurt me When you say goodbye" and "'Cause every hello Ends with a goodbye"

i think this is about not wanting to fall for the person because your afraid of getting hurt. So she's saying "don't catch me" but in the end she decides to give up and just letting him catch her.

Loving this song! Its so sweet and I love the bit where it speeds up and gets a bit funky, I just wish it would last for a bit longer, its over pretty quick.

I haven't had a song have an impact like this on me in awhile, and I'm in tears listening to the song and reading the lyrics at the same time. This has got to be one of my favorite songs on the new album, but I think I would've loved for the song to stay slow, instead of having it speed up at the end because it was really pretty like that. I love the lyrics too, she's such an amazing singer and songwriter.

so far this is my favourite on the album, but i agree that she should have kept it slow, not all songs need a crazy part.

I love how you can hear the smile in her voice when she sings "You've got me smiling in my sleep."

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
