In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
I'm turning in my skin,
alcoholic din, fills the room we're in
Girl, I think it's time we leave,
like a thief on Christmas Eve,
Take and you shall receive
No need to ask, you already know the way I feel inside.
Won't crowd amongst the shadows, see how much our love grows,
reflected in shop windows,
I love you as my blood flows,
as the rain ruins my best clothes,
you're a secret only I know.
No need to ask, you already know the way I feel inside.
No need to ask, you already know the way I feel inside.
Death at passing hours, dampness of a flower,
they took what once was ours,
they took what once was ours,
they took what once was ours,
they took what once was ours,
they took what once was ours.
No need to ask, you already know the way I feel inside,
No need to ask, you already know the way I feel inside.
They took what once was ours,
they took what once was ours,
they took what once was ours,
they took what once was ours,
they took what once was ours,
they took what once was ours,
they took what once was ours.
No need to ask, you already know the way I feel inside,
No need to ask, you already know the way I feel inside.

the best song in the new album
Think it's about the hurt of somebody who feels strongly for somebody but the feelings are not mutual.
The 'they took what once was ours' part makes me think it could be about a relationship that has ended due to the actions of others.
I think that he sings about the need for a change in a life shared by lovers, to make it fresh again, to amplify the feelings between them. It is understood that they love each other, no proof is necessary, but still the passing of time took some of the vigor and they just need to do something unusual together.
