Another long summer's come and gone
I don't know why it always ends this way
The boardwalk's quiet and the carnival rides
Are as empty as my broken heart tonight

But I close my eyes and one more time
We're spinning around and you're holding on tightly
The words came out, I kissed your mouth
No Fourth of July has ever burned so brightly
You had to go, I understand
But you promised you'd be back again
And so I wander 'round this town
'Til summer comes around

I got a job working at the old park pier
And every summer now for five long years
I grease the gears, fix the lights, tighten bolts, straighten the tracks
And I count the days til you just might come back

And then I close my eyes and one more time
We're spinning around and you're holding on tightly
The words came out, I kissed your mouth
No Fourth of July has ever burned so brightly
You had to go, I understand
But you swore you'd be back again
And so I'm frozen in this town
'Til summer comes around
And it comes around

And I close my eyes and you and I
Are stuck on the Ferris wheel rocking with the motions
And Hand in hand we cried and laughed
Knowing that love belonged to us girl, if only for a moment
And "Baby I'll be back again" you whispered in my ear
But now the winter wind is the only sound
And everything is closing down
'Til summer comes around
'Til summer comes around
'Til it comes around
And it comes around

    Song Meaning

This song is about a guy and a girl that meet up at the carnival or fair and have a little fling. She tells him she'll be back next summer, but she never comes back. The guy even gets a job there, waiting for her, but for the past 5 years, she never returns. He keeps playing back in his head the last time he saw her, and would probably do anything to have her back, or at least see her again.

I dont think Ive ever heard of a song that rings so true with me. And since the song just came out now, this time last year, was the last time I was seeing a girl briefly. She pretty much told me she'll see me again, but, like this song, she disappeared. I really liked her too. :(

This song is gorgeous, though the bittersweet lyrics are very sad. The guitar is beautiful (3:05) and I love the intro and outro. My favorite lyrics have to be:

Oh and I close my eyes and you and I Are stuck on the ferris wheel rockin' with the motion Hand in hand, we cried and laughed Knowing that love belonged to us, girl, if only for a moment

Just saw him in Dallas last night and he was outstanding - especially on this one. :)

I just heard this song on my way home. When I got my hands on my laptop I had to look it up on youtube. I seriously sat alone in my dark house listeming to it and started to tear up. It makes me think of how every summer me and this same guy are sorta a thing...its gone on for three years now. But, at the end of season lake trip it always kinda ends even though we would both like for it to be more.

You know, this is a very sad song and what not. Beautiful lyrics and greatly written, but in REALITY, don't you think he would've gotten her name, number....facebook or myspace account? And kept in touch?

    My Opinion

I think this song is great, and it totally reminds me of the movie The Notebook. And I think that keith urban and noah from The Notebook look similar, but that's just my opinion.

    Anyways, love the song<3.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
