Stupid Boy Lyrics

Well she was precious like a flower
She grew wild, wild but innocent
A perfect prayer in a desperate hour
She was everything beautiful and different

Stupid boy…you can’t fence that in
Stupid boy…it’s like holdin’ back the wind

(Chorus)
She laid her heart and soul right in your hands
And you stole her every dream and you crushed her plans
She never even knew she had a choice
And that’s what happens when the only voice
She hears is telling her she can’t
Stupid boy
Stupid boy

So what made you think you could take a life
And just push it, push it around
I guess to build yourself up so high
You had to take her and break her down

(Chorus)
Well she laid her heart and soul right in your hands
And you stole her every dream and you crushed her plans
She never even knew she had a choice
And that’s what happens when the only voice
She hears is telling her she can’t
You stupid boy

(Bridge)
You always had to be right
And now you lost the only thing that ever made you feel alive

(Solo)

(Chorus)
Well she laid her heart and soul right in your hands, yeah
And you stole her every dream and you crushed her plans
She never even knew she had a choice
And that’s what happens when the only voice
She hears is telling her she can’t
You stupid boy
Oh I’m the same old, same old stupid boy

It took awhile for her to figure out she could run
But when she did, she was long gone, long gone

This song should be a big time hit soon on country music radio I think. So I will be one of the first to explain what I think it means.

Basically the whole stupid boy is him talking to himself(the subject) about how stupid he was for letting this girl go. She 'let her heart and soul ride in your hands' means that she put a ton of effort into things and let him have every bit of her and trusted him with her heart...then he demolished every bit of what she had given.

He thought he could do whatever he wanted to her, tell her what to do, push her around and basically treat her like she was second string...then after awhile she got tired of it all and ran away from it all, she left him with her heart and dreams broken.

Basically he controlled her life, telling her what she could and couldnt do...now he realizes that shes gone and that she was truly in love with him and trusted him with everything she had and now shes gone and theres nothing he can do and knows he was wrong for what he did. stupid boy.

what a great song, musically, lyrically...it all comes together.

This song reminds me of my ex. He was a stupid boy. VERY controlling. I can't believe what an amazing person he lost. I gave my heart to him completely. He had issues! Stupid boy!

Did anyone else think that this song could possibly be about Tom Cruise? That was always my thoughts about it, it didn't even occur to me that it could be about the narrator.

The reason why is that we know Keith Urban's current wife is Nicole Kidman, who was previously married to Tom Cruise. There are all kinds of stories about Tom Cruise being controlling, including over his current wife Katie Holmes and stuff. It's rumored that after Nicole Kidman split with Tom Cruise that she started doing stuff that she didnt before (like for example wear high heels, which she didnt before because she was so much taller that Tom Cruise). Yeah, I know, I watch wayy too much Entertainment Tonight. Did anyone else think the same thing?

(By the way, beautiful song! One of my favorites!)

This song pretty much makes me cry, I hate it when a guy tries to take control of a girl. But I guess you kinda see the after math from the boys side. Although what he did was wrong, girls need to stand up for themselves! DOn't let a guy you think you love walk all over you.

The narrator-maybe Keith Urban-is telling this story and saying how, the boy has a fantastic girl. She was all he ever wanted and was a great person and how the boy let her go and didn't care about what he was doing and how stupid he is for letting her go.

By the end of the song you realize that Keith Urban, or narrator, is the "stupid boy" because he says "oh im the same old, same old stupid boy."

i love this song! :) its great

To me this song isnt about the boyfriend being controlling like "you cant do this" i think its more that he has such a hold on her. She was so in love with him, that she would do anything for him, not so much because he would tell her to, but because she loved him so much. she would take anything he threw at her because she loved him, and eventually it got to the point where she couldnt handle it anymore, and he is now realizing that he did a bad job in the relationship. that he knew how much she loved him, and that even though he didnt control her in the sense people think, he sort of did. thats just my take on it though
