Harmony Korine Lyrics

Rain, come down, and fall forever
Drain, the dirt, into the wasteland
Pray, for sound, to quiet the howling

Feel, no shame, too brave
Feel, afraid, to wait forever

Kneel, to fade, the day’s corrosion
Crawl, depart, towards perdition
Gray, the part, the bruise within you

Feel, no shame, too brave
Feel, afraid, to wait forever

Forever

Feel, no shame, too brave
Feel, afraid, to wait forever

dont be afraid to let go---drop the superego that controls your conscience, and leaves you with guilt---at least make an attempt to reach your goals and not be afraid of what may happen, society has conditioned people to be complacent and has created a stagnation amongst the masses, this is how you are controlled either by religion, or by the media--------------(Feel, no shame, too brave)this verse is your conditioning and how you are expected to be -vs- (Feel, afraid, to wait forever)instead you should live life, take chances, fear and procrastenation keeps you idle and regret later in life and a case of the what if's will be your damnation-hence-"perdition"! Just my interpretation, but 6 years of psychology has me looking into things a little too deep at times---great album---check out altruisticdream on youtube, i will be posting a few vids from this cd later this weekend

My Interpretation
Cover art for Harmony Korine lyrics by Steven Wilson

My own interpretation of the chorus was "Feel no shame to break Be afraid to wait forever" but also this interpretation could be correct. We'll see when the official lyrics will (hopefully) come out...

Anyway, I don't think the song's necessarily about Harmony Korine. Think to Porcupine Tree's "Tinto Brass", I've read that Steven Wilson named that song this way just because he liked the sound of that name, without even knowing who Tinto Brass was (the part when he says he didn't know anything about him is on the Stupid Dream's Wikipedia page, but I can't remember where I read he named the song Tinto Brass because he liked the sound, sorry). I think he just likes Harmony Korine for his art or his name as well, but I don't see any direct relationship between the song and Harmony Korine himself. However, I don't know much about this artist, so if anyone can tell us more about him it would be very helpful to understand the lyrics!

Well this album seems to havea critical note to it ( just as Porcupine Tree's "Fear of a blank planet") refering to music ( the artist's several videos where he destroys Ipods in various ways) and media .As I see it the general ideea is that people today , asa speciallt those who consume music in large cuantities , loose tuch with the true purpose of this art . Again the theme of shallow individuals that waste their lives in a gray existence , afraid to look beyond their comforting headphones that isolate them from life . In a way I guess I too am one of those people .

Song Meaning

My proposal is that the nature of this song is similar to that of Korine's cinematic (and possibly photographic?) works. According to Wikipedia and its many sources included therein, as well as limited research of my own, Korine has a tendency to neglect meaning in his movies. He feels it is belittling to the audience to dictate the progression of the screenplay based on conventional cinema. His movies are said to focus more on conveying a certain feeling. Therefore, I am lead to conclude that there is no direct or indirect meaning contained in this composition. There is, however, a signature compositional symmetry and emotional trigger that leads back to the title, Harmony Korine. A paradox? The meaning of a song is to have no meaning whatsoever? Could it be so Fantastic?! Bravo, Mr. Wilson!

I don't really know what he means by this song, but at the line 'feel afraid to wait forever' I feel like he's saying that we should feel scared of life. Which sort of makes sense, since we're born we just go on and live our life without stopping to think twice about what we're in for. But he's saying that we should feel scared, we are just going to be waiting for our death, we get born and after a long time we die, so we are just waiting and we'll be waiting forever.

Well thats what I hear, it's such a great song, I almost die when the chorus comes on! ndlkdwedlqskwldkasfghl sobs It's so good!

@lookingglasspear i know steven wilson can sometimes be very bleak to the point where i am too naive to notice where other fans immediately key in to what he is saying, but i am not so sure that is the case here. It seems to me he is saying that you should only feel afraid to wait forever to do what you should have done when you were alive. thats the ONLY thing you should be afraid of (well not the only thing but for effect in this instance thats how ill phrase it) nothing in life should be scary...

has anyone read "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children?" read that and then watch the video. idk, i thought it was neat.

Pretty sure the last word in the first line of the chorus is "break" rather than "brave" per listening to the live version. Same thing for "that moves" rather than "the bruise".

"Harmony Korine (born January 4, 1973)[1] is an American film director, producer, screenwriter, and author. He is best known for the screenplay Kids and for directing the movies Gummo and Julien Donkey-Boy. He has been a prominent figure in independent film, music and art throughout the past decade." ~wikipedia.org

I am not very familiar with Mr Korine, but the name is rather unique. I'm guessing the song is about him.
