And the sea
Waits to bring me down
Drown me in its waves
Still, I have no doubt
This meaning of life

Wearing this shroud I've journeyed long
I've seen so many worlds in my time
Wandering far and back again
My soul is getting worn

And the happiness like a firework
How it shone, now it's gone

And the sea
Waits to bring me down
Drown me in its waves
Still, I have no doubt
This meaning of life

I know that darkness follows light
I see the traps that stand in my wai
I'll use my head to make it through
Believers get it tough

Everything I cherished so dearly
Wasn't love, wasn't love

And the sea
Waits to bring me down
Drown me in its waves
Still, I have no doubt

Though my flesh
Perishes in time
I will reach the shore
On the other side

This meaning of life

    Memory

I always think this is a feeling of life's survival . . . remembering me to a rough life. Like you are standing in front of huge waves and shouting 'Come here!!' to show your fortitude and enormous struggle to the world.

HYDE has one of the world most wonderful voices. This is one of my faves.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
