Summer Shudder is an oxymoronic phrase. Summer is warm and symbolically the twilight of someone's life. It is beautiful and bright. Shudder means "to tremble with a sudden convulsive movement, as from horror, fear, or cold."
In AFI's warmest hour (STS' success), Davey is cold and fearful. Why does he feel that way?

He's trying to make everyone listen to his words (lyrics). He's also upset he can't perfect his lyrics to appease everyone.

You is the fans he can't reach. How can success be so miserable? How can some be unreachable and some hate them for getting big?

He is referring to the people who call successful bands "sell outs." They turned their backs on AFI.

This verse is the most important. The fourth wall is the invisible barrier between the stage and the audience in theater. Davey is breaking it with this song, this album, and all the "gorgeous eyes" that look back at him make him want to kill himself (not literally, although who knows, maybe). He wants AFI to be "invisible" so they won't be scrutinized anymore.
Very possible this was the struggle prompting these lyrics from Davey on this album; much like STS breaking from the former AFI sounds ("this art does drown")

this is such a typical analysis of an AFI song, but i see it as a recent breakup. first verse: He's telling her how much he loves her and how good it feels being with her, but she's turning her back out of fright. shes afraid of feeling the way she does because in her heart of hearts she knows she'll just end up hurt. 2nd verse: she had the perfect man and someone who loved her with all of himself, but still couldnt find comfort in his arms, found no point in living in a world without love, and killed herself. He's now asking her how she could do such a thing and leave him in this world heartbroken and alone. the breakdown: He sees life in a different perspective after her death. he sees life through a much more mature persons eyes. he understands that we are only a wink in the world.
I have no idea about the real meaning of this song, but since Decemberunderground tells a story through the songs, I believe this comes directly after Kiss And Control when the main character's significant other killed herself. "'we all want to die like movie stars' you said, as you jumped from the height of our cutting room floor" (referencing when the other person killed themself)
I think this song follows immediately right after Kiss And Control, on the scene of "Decemberunderground" the movie the character and his significant other were acting in. In the second verse, he can't make a sound or feel anything as he's staring at the body of his lover on the stage below (gorgeous eyes shine suicide). He decided he's going to take the fall as well, hoping that they will finally be "invisible".
In the bridge, he decides to take the fall. "This is the fall, this is the long way down. And out lives look smaller now, and our lives look so small"
This song then goes onto Miss Murder, the closer of the story.

One of my favourites off of this new album, alongside kill caustic. Can't wait to pick the CD up, their artwork is always fantastic.
Summer Shudder and Love Like Winter are just too amazing to describe. Kill Caustic = AMAZING too! I hope they don't choose the weekest tracks for singles...
I don't know about you guys but I find this song similar to A Single Second.
