Ladies and gentlemen, Colonel PT Chester Whitmore is proud to present
Bung Vulchungo and the Zimbabwe Songbirds

Do you see banana man
Hopping over on the white hot sand
Here he come with some for me
Freshly taken from banana tree (one, two, three, four)

Banana man me want a ton
Give me double and a bonus one
Give me more for all me friends
This banana flow never end

Do you want a banana?
Peel it down and go mm mm mm mm
Do you want a banana?
This banana for you

Tonight we dance around the flame
Then we get to play the spirit game
Spirit names we shout out loud
Shake the thunder from the spirit cloud
All the songbirds in the tree
Chant a tune to let the spirits free
Then we see them in the night
Spirits jumpin' by the fire light

Do you want a banana? (Do you want a banana)
Peel it down and go mm mm mm mm
Do you want a banana? (Do you want a banana)
This banana for you

Look you, you're too uptight you know
You can laugh and kick it back and go (we)
But without a rhythm or a rhyme
You do not banana all the time
Fly away from city on the run
Try to make a little fun

Look you come to the bungalow
African't you tell me don't you so
Don't you love the bumping of the drum
Make you shake until the bum go numb
Let the bongo play until you drop
This banana never stop (never stop, never stop)

Forget all your troubles and go with the flow
Forget about whatever you may never know
Like whether whatever you are doing is whatever you should
And whether anything you do is every really any good
And then forget about banana when it sticks in your throat
And when they make you want to bellow but you're stuck in a choke
And you forget about the yellow from the beckoning man
He'll make you take another and make a mock of your plan

Bungalay bungalo make up your mind and tell me no umm shh

Well it's nine o'clock and it's getting dark
And the sun is falling from the sky
I've never left so early and you may wonder why

Tomorrow morning on the plane
No banana make you go insane
Floating back to busy town
No banana make you want to frown

Do you want a banana? (Do you want a banana?)
Peel it down and go mm mm mm mm
Do you want a banana?
This banana for you

    My Interpretation

To me, this song is about escaping the monotony of daily life and breaking the status quo, represented by the object of bananas. I assume the general story of the song is an office worker (as shown in the music video) daydreams of a grand vacation to a tropical place with tropical people like banana man, but dreams tend to be a bit odd.\n\nPerhaps our protagonist\'s mind is a bit warped from the basic 9-5 schedule which is taking him nowhere in life. In the music video, when he proposes the whole "let\'s stop wasting our lives" to the office workers, he\'s shut down and seen as crazy, and either goes insane following his banana man persona or is deemed insane by others who follow the system blindly. \n\nDuring the bridge of the song is when our protagonist is thinking over and surveying his options for his life. He is eventually convinced by his new ideas and goes full banana mode. He seems to reconcile his ideas during the "9 o\'clock" part and now fully regrets ever living his life the way he did and dreads having to return to it to make ends meet, which is why he eventually goes fully insane (or is deemed as such). \n\nThis song is also about bananas.

I think that in this song the banana is being used as a metaphor. Please view the video on Albinoblacksheep and see the part near the end when he is eating the banana in reverse. This seems to symbolize the end of his little holiday and a return to daily life. In this case the banana would represent freedom and cutting loose, and Banana Man would represent... Who? What?

well I believe the bannana man is someone of authority, eithr a boss, parents, or even god it self. Especialy after reflecting on the portion

forget all your troubles and go with the flow forget about whatever you may never know like whether whatever you are doing is whatever you should and whether anything you do is every really any good and then forget about banana when it stick in your throat and when it make you wanna bellow but you stuck in a choke and you forget about de yellow from de beckoning man who make you take another one and make a mock of your plan

as I see it they make you take your vacation and make you come back from it

One of the symbols printed on tablets of ecstasy is a banana. I'm sure if you keep this in mind while listening to the song (and also watching the music video) it won't be hard to connect all of the dots.

I might be going out on a limb here, but I think it's about someone who is addicted to prescription pills. The office setting of the video helps with that. The lines; "you too uptight, you know you could laugh and kick it back and go" sound like they might be from a doctor, or even a friend, who is prescribing said medication. Later, the lines; "but without a rhythm or a rhyme you do not banana all de time" make it sound as if you need a prescription for whatever it is, because you can't get it without a "rhythm or a rhyme". The lines; "forget all your troubles and go with the flow forget about whatever you may never know like whether whatever you are doing is whatever you should and whether anything you do is every really any good" lead me to believe that it is definitely some sort of anxiety medication, and "the yellow from the beckoning man" is the feeling of the addiction itself. The part about making "a mock of your plan" is the speaker admitting to themself that they have a problem, as well as "make up your mind and tell me no". I think that the song resolves with the person getting over their addiction, because it ends with more optimistic lines about having "no banana". Prescription or not, you can't deny that this song is about drugs.

the music video is really trippy too. plus... a banana may slightly resemble a joint (?)

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
