There's four cruisers flashing in my rear view
They're not gonna take me out, I?d watch it, what'd you do now?
There's four cruisers weighing on my conscience
There is one thing for sure, this is not a fucking love song

My fear is gone, and still I don't know why
I waited for so long to let you know
(I'm not goin' back)
Now this is all your fault and there?s no one left to blame
Did you think we?d make it out? Did you know?

Do you know?
Oh, yeah

Somewhere out there
There?s a man on the ground who ain't livin' anymore
And his name is written on my knuckles
Take me, take my fuckin' burden

There's four cruisers flashing in my rear view
They're not gonna take me out, I?d watch it, what'd you do now?
In each cruiser is a man with his gun
And his fancy little bullets with my name on 'em

My fear is gone, and still I don't know why
I waited for so long to let you know
(I'm not goin' back)
Now this is all your fault and there?s no one left to blame
Did you think we?d make it out? Did you know?

Hey, hey, ho, ho, wild chase to the open road
Hey, hey, ho, ho, this car is too fuckin' slow
Hey, hey, ho, ho, wild chase to the open road
Hey, hey, ho, ho, this car is too fuckin' slow

Don't know where I'm going, I'm not slowing down
And I'll die before I stop this fuckin' car
Street lights and white lines
This is all I have left, this is all I have

A flashing lights and racing hearts
Will you ever just slow down?
How did we end up here?
And all those sirens are getting louder

Flashing lights and racing hearts
I don't think we're gonna make it out
(This won't end well)
Make it out
(This won't end well)

Only thing I'm sure about, is that this song is great! It's fun to hear some new stuff from AoF. And for the song, there isn't much I can get out of it, except "Somewhere out there, there’s a man on the ground who ain't livin' anymore. And his name is written on my knuckles." which pretty much has to be related with the tattoo on Dallas' kuckles (which reads "True Love"). That would lead to making this "There is one thing for sure, this is not a fucking love song." false. If the only sure thing is false...it leads to...who knows?

this new alexisonfire song fucking owns! cant wait for a new album

as for the meaning? seems to be telling the story of someone whos killed another person and is in a high speed pursuit, but as le roux stated above, it could also be referring to the death of love, as stated on dallas nuckles.

as for the name? fuck knows?

    great song but

Alexisonfire likes to play with movie lines and imagery and stuff like that. I think this is just meant to give the feeling of a high-speed chase (for some reason, i get the image of it out on a deserted road) after a murder. There's most likely a second meaning, too, dealing with the love thing. Maybe the murder was a crime commited by a couple. Bonnie and Clyde? Thelm and Louise? Iunno. Still a great song. The insturmentals even give the feeling of the sirens in the background.

WOW!!! This is such a great song...Alexisonfire go from strength to strength. The instrumental's so fast paced. Definately gives the impression of a car chase. The lyrics are (at a basic first look level) about two people in a car (i think) one of them killed a guy and the other told him (or her) to do it. One's blaming the other and one's just determined to keep the motor running. Chase to the death...awesome song

You guys know who Charlie Sheen and Henry Rollins are right? they're both actors, and both were born in the 60's. I don't really know much about either of them, but i'm guessing maybe there was a movie starring both of them and there was a high speed chase type thing in it. But everything said as far as i can see is pretty much right, the chase, the love thing, etc.

Henry Rollins is not really an actor. He was the lead singer of black flag and is now doing spoken word stuff.

There is a movie that has both of them in it, called The Chase. It was released in 1994. Henry Rollins plays Officer Dobbs and Charlie Sheen plays Jackson Davis Hammond. The plot is "Jack Hammond is sentenced to life in prison, but manages to escape. To get away from the police he takes a girl as hostage and drives off in her car."

    ^^^

That kind of makes me think that Dallas is singing as the hostage and George is singing as Hammond.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
