Sister Lyrics
She smelled like 2 am
took him back to her place
where all the saints adorned the walls.
delivering her from grace
he knew he should leave
and this could only turn cold
she was a bad bad girl
so he told her so
Under the shadows of doubt
he had the whisper of lust
he said 'no touching tonight'
she closed her eyes in his trust
she said 'tuck me in'
he knew his judgment was sound
still he pulled back the sheets
and said
[Chorus]
you better lie down cuz the angels are watching
she closed her eyes and said quit the talking
'you can hurt me do whatever you like'
Her every word was in italics
as it would fall from her lips
the walls were made of broken promises
he hoped this wouldn't be his.
She said 'tell me what to do'
he knew right then he was done
feeling lonely and confused
he said
[Chorus]
'you better lie down the angels are watching'
she closed her eyes and said quit the talking
'you can hurt me do whatever you like'
so he said 'shut your mouth girl the angels are listening'
she crossed herself now the moments are missing
'you can hurt me do whatever you like'
glancing through the curtain
questions on her tongue
she spoke in third person
and he had seen every one
awkward and embittered
said 'shut the door when you go'
perhaps he should've reconsidered (oh no)
when he said
[Chorus]
you better lie down the angels are watching
she closed her eyes and said quit the talking
'you can hurt me do whatever you like'
so he said 'shut your mouth girl the angels are listening'
she crossed herself now the moments are missing

The title: Sister < obviously about either a nun (most positive) or a catholic girl
And what makes people think they don't do sexytime? There is no place where there is a slight word indicating that?
First stanza is easy to figure out. It's night, it's 2am, they go back to her place, her room. He figures out she is verry religious with all those things on the walls, which she prays to (Deliverivering her from grace) < SHE IS RELIGIOUS. He knows it's a pretty stupid thing to fuck this girl, but he can't really shake the feeling of wanting sex(sex!sex!sex!) So he starts the durty talking "You're a bad bad girl!" (double references, reffered to she is a bad girl for doing something like that at her position. But also a dirty way of talking, though a cliché) So they are lying there in bed and thinking "what if??" (under the shadows of doubt). He starts the dirty talk. He tries hard not to do it, saying "no touching TONIGHT", meaning he wants to, just trying to take it slow. And she know what he wants to, but trust him. She tests him, saying "Tuck me in", she wants him to hold her while they lie in bed. It's just too much, he gets too aroused, and throw the sheet on the floor, knowing it is just wrong!
Which leads to the chorus: What is the most fun part about sex? Doing it places that's just wrong to fuck in. In this case, in a room full of religion and rules saying "no sex before marriage!" So he says "Shut your mouth girl the angels are watching", playing the dominant malely animal. She plays along, closing her eyes and letting him do whatever he wants. (sex!sex!sex!)
Second stanza: THEY ARE FUCKING! Making sweet 'luuv! "Her every word was in italic", she getting totally boned! She starts praying in latin! This isn't the first time, she has fucked numerous times "Walls made of broken promises" < that was easy. Peleaaase people! He is hoping this won't be more than a fuck, that all this, would be his "he hoped this wouldn't be his" And the end she is just arousing him too much, so he comes, with the feeling of doubt. Thinking "This wasn't the right thing to do!" When he said.
Third stanza: It's done, he fucked her and it's over. But this stanza actually confuses me. Because either it's her family that comes in and sees what they are doing, and she starts playing all innocent and questioning him. "questions on her tounge" And when they are gone she says he shall shut the door when he leaves. And he is still thinking "THIS WAS WRONG.. BUT MAAN! SEX!!"
But it could also be, that he has been lured to be in a sex movie, and he finds out and feels abit akward about it. And she know what have happend and throws him out.
There. PEERFECT! By the way, i lluuuv! she wants revenge. Their songs of lust and forbidden fruits just makes me very very happy:) It's a nice change for love songs that tells us to be together forever. She Wants Revenge just wants lust and sex.
My opinion Pabst
@Pabst THIS— but i think the third stanza could represent her having a hangover. maybe they were so drunk (she was at least) that she barely remembers anything, but maybe she woke up naked as well leaving her to question everything. people tend to glance through the curtains when it’s morning.

i think this song is about a girl trying to seduce a guy. but he doesn't feel right about it.
It makes me think of the end of the night, when your takin a girl home (2am) and your sobering up and you know that you should just go home, but the girl wants you to stay. In this case she's a catholic girl (maybe even a nun) too...and he's doubting his actions as he finally goes against his instincts. This girl is messed up and he's fully aware of it, he doesn't want to contribute to her already built up emotional baggage, but he gives into her lust. The chorus is the whole action.
The last part makes me think that she might have had multiple personalities (spoke in third person) and he had no idea how deeply she was troubled (questions unheard of) finally he saw the whole picture and realized why she acted the way she did (he saw everyone) and now he feels like shit for what he's let himself do.
I don't know I'm just guessing, but its a beautifully vivid song.
the songs about a religous girl that brings this guy home for a little fun but i think they were both drunk and as he got into her house and saw the "saints that adorneed the walls" he starts rethinking it cuz he starts thinking that she's a nun. a sister and that itd be wrong...all the while considering that he could be oh so good...it says thats she's talking in 3rd person ...well she's drunk self explanatory plus i do that all the time sober or not... The girl is still drunk and interested but realizes he's backing out of "the plan" and she gets desperate " you can hurt me do whatever you like" and offers him anything but he still refuses and starts trying to calm her down and talk her out of it by talking of the angels that are watching...and then she gets fed up and basically tells him to leave and close the door behind himself he does leave but he really wishes he had reconsidered what he had reconsidered...cuz sleeping with a sister was appealing now. thats just my interpretation but i suck at this..
I think it's about a good girl who is trying to act all bad, and the guy doesn't feel like he should be with her, because he knew she would regret it someday, since she 'smelled like 2am', which could refer to alchohol... who knows, i could be wrong... ew, there's a dead fly stuck in the keyboard now... sorry, randomness...
Ok initially i had always assumed that the two characters were a male member of the church and a nun, which is an interesting interpretation to me, but the lyrics never establish the man as a person of god.
To explain this interpretation, i thought that the fact this is taking place at 2AM added to the idea that what they are doing is meant to be in secret, no one can know. On the other hand this can also imply that she has been drinking (she smelled like 2AM).
When they get back to her place, her walls are decorated with religious figures. The next line says they deliver her from grace, which is a phrase that implies she will take punishment for her sins. I thinks this adds to the fact that what theyre doing is wrong, and it will have consequences. With this in mind, the man is aware that he shouldnt continue with what hes doing. This makes me believe that hes a holy man himself in some way, as he seems to fear the repercussions himself, since he seems to pay lots of attention to the way hes breaking religious morals.
Obviously this leads to him calling her s bad girl, since shes sinning. Although this doesnt do much for their situation, since thats kinda a mood setting phrase. I do like to think it adds to the atmosphere, think like someone saying “this is wrong” and fully meaning it, yet it makes the whole act more appealing.
So they still havent done anything yet, but he has yet to put a stop to it. It says that hes having doubts, but its not enough to make him want her any less (under the shadows of doubt, behind a whisper of lust).
He goes on to say that they arent going to touch tonight, implying that there will be others. This once again leads me to think they know each other outside of this, likely through the church. Notably it also never says shes a nun, yet the title implies that she is, once again making me think that he knows her. And it also says she closes her eyes in his trust, implying they have a deeper connection.
She closes her eyes and asks him to tuck her in, although i doubt she thought this is where the night ended. I think its more likely it was a way to get him to her bed. Him knowing that his judgement is sound is just another way to say he is fully aware going any further than this would be wrong. “Still” gives me the impression that despite knowing this, he went ahead anyway.
He pulls back the sheets, which is the opposite of tucking someone in, but could mean hes in the process of doing so. He goes on to say she should lie down, since the angles are watching. This is supposed to be him rejecting the situation, saying its wrong and telling her god will know what they did. She counters him by closing her eyes, almost as to avoid the blame for the situation- “i didnt see it happen,” and then tells him he should stop talking- stop thinking- and to do whatever he likes to her. A very tempting offer.
During the instrumental, im fairly sure they got at least a little busy. This is supported by her words being in italics. Could be interpreted as her moaning, or at least saying things in a suggestive way. The walls being made of broken promises means that they have now sinned. Since the walls were religious figures, they symbolized a promise to god, and now that theyve….the promise has been broken. Also the fact that it was a promise to god helps to imply that shes a nun and hes a holy figure too, as nuns and priests must take an oath of abstinence. Often these members of the church are held to a higher standard to uphold that oath than the people of the church. Him hoping it wont be his broken promise can be taken as him hoping he isnt as guilty as she is, as they are her walls- even if he isnt a preist.
So i already believe that this whole segment is during the act. The fact that hes able to hope it wouldnt be his broken promise means they havent gone all the way yet, and on his end theres still deniability. Her promise has been broken since she initiated this, and in catholic practices, thoughts are the same as actions. Then she goes on and asks him to tell her what to do, and when she says this he knows hes done for. This has two meanings. On one hand, hes done because she once again offers him whatever he wants by saying that, and it temps him too much. And on the other hand, hes done in the sense that he is going to break that promise. The fact that he will now be telling her what to do makes him fully responsible for whatever happens next, and theres no way he will be able to take it back. This leads him to telling her to lie down cause the angels are watching- and judging. He is trying to put an end to this before he breaks his promise too.
She once again says he can do whatever he likes to her to tempt him again, but this time he responds by telling her to shut her mouth cause the angels are listening- and judging. Yet this time, she “crossed herself.” To cross herself is to make the cross on her body, the thing you see Christians do before entering a prayer. By doing this, she is requesting a blessing or reflecting on her actions. The following line says the moments are now missing, which to me means that she was requesting a blessing, permission to continue. She once again says he can do whatever he likes to her, and i believe it is at this point he gives in. Shes requested a blessing, and it’s just too tempting. Maybe god will forgive him.
The instrumental plays again, and i believe its during this that they have sex. We enter the situation again, and hes now glancing through the curtains. Glances are quick looks, which means hes paranoid, and i think hes trying to see if anyones outside- checking for witnesses- while trying to avoid being seen if there are.
She starts asking him questions, probably having to do with what theyve just done. The fact shes talking in 3rd person could mean shes trying to distance herself from the situation- avoiding blame or guilt for her actions. When it says hes “seen everyone one” it confirms that they have in fact slept together. To have seen every one of her “persons” is to have explored her in every way.
Then shes awkward and angry, probably feeling the gravity of her actions and also feeling upset about the way hes reacting to the whole thing. So she tells him to leave. They dont even spent the night.
It goes on to say maybe he should have reconsidered when she was tempting him with the ability to do whatever he liked to her. The repetition of the whole situation shows that hes replaying it in his head, probably thinking about what he could have done differently.
Instrumental plays, and you think the song is over, only for it to come back with a darker vibe. I think this is meant to show the regret and guilt over the situation in the following days (months? Years?), especially with the way that its just the entire situation being recounted again- meaning it happened and nothing can be changed.
AMAZING!!! I'm in love with this band. They could vary well make it to Bright Eyes cult classic status
I loved Bright Eyes the minute I heard them and the same with this band. So in that sense, I definitely agree with you. Both are great bands in their own ways.

Anyone have any clue what this friggen song is about? I don't. So if you know it...then..tell me? Lol. Hahah. Okay?
I honestly think this song is about rape. They are both drunk, she takes him home and he sees the saints on the wall and he feels bad about what he is doing, but he is so full of lust, "he had the whisper of lust," that he just can't help himself. Because he said that there was "no touching tonight" and that he knew that going there was a bad idea and that "it would only turn cold" and then she was probably scared when he told her what to do so she said, "you can hurt me do...

But, then when she said "tell me what to do" it made me think that she was inexperienced sexually and then he felt bad because he said "he knew right then he was done, feeling lonely and confused." Then he even mentioned how maybe he should of "reconsidered" what he said to her. Also, when she told him to leave she said awkwardly and "embittered" to "shut the door when you go" and thats when he reconsidered what he had said to her. That was just my take on this song. But, don't get me wrong I love She Wants Revenge and I really like this song, but that was just my impression I got from it.
She seems very seductive. It's like she's asking for it and he's trying to leave. Obviously, not about rape.

bright eyes sucks in comparison...
Well isn't the song about some nun? and she's a bad girl and wants to have some fun with this guy... But he doesn't feel it's right.
