Time has had its way with me
My broken, tired hands can't build a thing
The wires that have held me still
Embedded now in flesh, define my will
The idle of my days has won
The empty I have fed has made me numb
Despite what you will find in me
The failures of my past still swell beneath

I need a heart that carries on through the pain
When the walls start collapsing again
Give me a soul that never ceases to follow
Despite the infection within

Our careless feet leaving trails
Never minding the fragile dirt we all end in

This is where I find my fall
The cares that held me life don't work at all
And every step away from here
Is closer to the plague I hold so dear

Awaiting my end
Breathing in the day that finds me new
Redemption begins
Bleeding out the flaws in place of you

Our careless feet leaving trails
Never minding the fragile dirt we all end in

“Deteriorate” is more or less about getting old and feeling the effects of that. It’s about longing for an eternal body that will be flawless and will never wear out. When I sing “Awaiting my end, breathing in the day that finds me new,” I’m talking about looking forward to that day when our bodies will be replaced with Heavenly bodies. In addition to this, it’s also just a reminder for listeners that life here on earth is not very long, and to live wisely while we’re here.

For my loins are full of burning pain, and there is no health in my body. Psalms 38:7

    My Interpretation

Last night when my buddy and I were going back home this song came on and he asked me if I liked it and I told him it was the one songs from DH that seems to be closest to me.

I'm only 32 and I have been through a crippling death in the family over 10 years ago followed by an incident that involved bloodshed. The depression itself lasted almost 10 years.

When the lyrics said "I need a heart that carries on through the pain when the walls start collapsing again," I almost started crying in front of my buddy and I said to him, "knowing what I have been through, I wonder what kind of person I am now. Do I have a heart that would carry on through the soul crushing pain of death? Not that I'd want it to happen again but I know death is inevitable."

    [Edit: Misspell]

Ryan made this seem like to me that, He is giving himself what the world has to offer and he is mindlessly following it. And everything that we accomplish really means nothing cause we all are going to die someday. He is struggling with the world and not caring to take in what Christ has to offer though he knows he needs it

"Awaiting my end Breathing in the day that finds me new Redemption begins Bleeding out the flaws in place of you"

that part makes me think of the cruzifixion(prolly a bad misspell), jesus was "awaiting his end" and while he was, our"redemption began" and he bleed out the flaws in place of us

Both theories link to the song, Gods Kid and Velrex. I'd say Velrex' idea is like quoting Jesus, but not quoting Him. More like saying His thoughts.

i'm pretty sure this song is about realizing how you can so easily get caught up in worldy things, so bad that it feels like those things are what keeps you alive. he's decided that those things are worthless and that he needs to disconnect from them no matter how bad it hurts and choose to follow God, and he's asking for the strength to do that.

Ministry
Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
