In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
Stop
You relate
It's too bad that you have made mistakes
Too bad that I cannot relate
When all else fails
When all else fades
I kept my way through bitter days
Through bitter days
What you don't know (don't know)
Won't leave a scar
What you don't know (don't know)
Hasn't killed you so far
What you don't know (don't know)
Is who you are
I just give you something to talk about
What you don't know
It's too late that now
I've changed my mind
Too late somehow
To recognize
When all else fails
When all I fight
I hold my words
Perdido en time
Just lost in time
What you don't know (don't know)
Won't leave a scar
What you don't know (don't know)
Hasn't killed you so far
What you don't know (don't know)
Is who you are
I just give you
Something to talk about
So you lost yourself
Turned to someone else
And you can't give up your will to want to know
Then you find yourself
And you're someone else
In the end you only get what you deserve
What you deserve
What you don't know (don't know)
Won't leave a scar
What you don't know (don't know)
Hasn't killed you so far
What you don't know (don't know)
Is who you are
I just give you something to talk about
What you don't know (don't know)
What you don't know (don't know)
What you don't know (don't know)
You relate
It's too bad that you have made mistakes
Too bad that I cannot relate
When all else fails
When all else fades
I kept my way through bitter days
Through bitter days

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
No Surprises

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
Magical
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
I'm 99.9% sure that these are the right lyrics...if not, tell me and i'll change them.
in the booklet it says that: When all else fails When all I fight. I hold my words. And leave all the time.
is when all else fails and all i find are all my words perdido (lost) in time
Great song....
Great song....
''What you don't know. Won't leave a scar. What you don't know. Hasn't killed you so far.'' my bf broke up with me. even tho i loved him i cheated on him a couple of times, cause i just felt like i need to hurt him 'cause he just like..ignored me. and then...when we broke up, i asked him, what would he do, and he said that it'll kill him, and that he would have been very dissapointed in me. so ya i still love him, even tho i'äm so so mad at him, because of he brokeing up with me. so anyways, he hurt me sooooo badly, so that the guy who i cheated him with, went to ma ex bf, and like knocked him out, and told that we went out couple of times, and kissed, and that he's in love with me. si like my ex bf lost it so here comes this part: ''So you lost yourself. Turn to someone else. And you can't give up your will to want to know. Then you find yourself. And you're someone else. In the end you only get what you deserve. (What you deserve)'' and then he like told me that we should get back together, that he still loves me, and i can say, he really does, but i blew him off, cause i was sooo hurt, and now he got what he deserved, and he's like now someone else, his so-so sad, and he's calling me all the time. so anyways. i won! awesome song
I don't really care about the lyrics, great song!
to me this song is about a guy who liked a girl who doesnt like him. and when she finally figures out she needs him he has 'changed his mind.'
I am so addicted to this song right now! ^_^
“What you deserve” is a song for the person who is an abuser without thinking if he hurt anybody while he is doing something. This song shows what will happen if you are being attacked by “karma”. All the bad things you did from the people you have hurt will have their payback… Listen closely to the song and see the video of it and you will realize what im talking about.
